AIBU to ask how often you eat "rubbish"...

Thingsarel00kingup · 23/09/2020 17:23

As in how often you'd have a big cream cake, or ice cream, or oooh I dunno, a big box of chocolates, 3 doughnuts and a trifle.

Basically I pretty much obsess about food 😂 Right now I'd really LOVE a big slice of cake, or some apple crumble and custard. Sweet rather than savoury.

I say "rubbish" just because it's full of calories rather than full of my 5-a-day. I try to eat reasonably well and don't always give in to cravings. Just wondered if I was being overly harsh on myself and should in fact pop out and get ALL of the above 😋

So AIBU to wonder how many people do just eat what they fancy when they fancy it (I don't cos I worry about getting fat, I'm really short so extra weight shows quickly).

I can’t eat it anymore, I feel wrecked after a bag of crisps or a chocolate bar or some cake Sad Before 35 I existed on pizza and crisps, and now I’m over 40 I feel tired & sick if I do. Is there a drug I can take to combat this?

ilovebedtimestories · 23/09/2020 18:26

Multiple times per day Blush

justanotherneighinparadise · 23/09/2020 18:26

I’m afraid not. Haven’t had anything sweet at all for over three months.

TheNavigator · 23/09/2020 18:27

Two or three times a week. But I eat healthily & exercise the rest of the time so I have a healthy BMI. I'm short too - it can be a bore at times but I value being slim & fit.

ZarasHouse · 23/09/2020 18:29

Sweet treats a couple of times a week. Sweet stuff I crave less, although I am partial to fizzy drinks usually get sugar free though.
I have salty foods every day, though. Crisps, nachos, salted nuts, meaty snacks like jerky or pork scratchings, hot dogs, fried chicken, BBQ or Chinese ribs, popadoms, prawn crackers, salted popcorn, chips, breaded scampi.
I also eat mayonnaise and sour cream every day.

Porcupine83 · 23/09/2020 18:35

Biscuits or crisps every day.
Some sort of cake / pudding / chocolate most days, maybe every other day.
During lockdown I got into the habit of making brownies all the time - like as soon as they were finished I’d make another batch, and can make it with my eyes closed in about 10 mins. Dangerous.
DH wants me to stop buying rubbish as he has no willpower but I’m in charge of the shopping Grin

Oh shit... at least once a day, I'm overweight but not terribly so, size 10-14, think j have a couple of size 16s but they're my super baggy scruffs.

Spanglybangles · 23/09/2020 18:40

@KilljoysDutch 🤣🤣🤣

blue25 · 23/09/2020 18:44

A couple of times a week. I also can’t have cake, biscuits etc, in the house or I’ll eat it all.

Catsarelush · 23/09/2020 18:44

I had a maltesers ice cream yesterday and a chocolate eclair today. However I don’t eat like that every day and I don’t eat crisps or cheese or snack food or junk food or takeaways.

passthemustard · 23/09/2020 18:45

I had 2 raspberry crown danishes this morning. Fruit for lunch. Then a snickers and a packet of crisps. Just ate a brioche roll. Not sure what's for dinner. But there will definitely be tea and biscuits tonight.

I don't eat like this everyday! (I don't normally have the fruit 😂😂)

thenewaveragebear1983 · 23/09/2020 18:46

I was so fed up of eating rubbish over lockdown, I have given it all up.
No dairy, no grains, no sugar, no sweeteners, no processed food. I'm on day 65 today and I genuinely feel amazing. I've lost a stone (nearly, 13.5lbs) as well, without counting cals or grams of carbs or macros or any of that stuff that previously ruled my life and got me pretty much nowhere. I am quite an active person, run a fair bit and do classes and yoga but I was just eating so much stodge, something had to give.

So, to answer your question OP, currently never!

earthyfire · 23/09/2020 18:46

I can go days without and then go to eating something rubbish every day in terms of crisps or a biscuit. I cook from scratch all week. Today I bought a big chocolate cake from Waitrose so will be having that later with a cup of coffee! I try to eat very healthily but if I want something sweet etc then I won't restrict myself.

QuestionableDanceMoves · 23/09/2020 18:48

Too often, most days, try not to have it in the house as I just devour it. Have eaten more of it over the last 6 months and even more in the last 2 weeks as I’m facing redundancy and my go to is to eat crap to cope- even though it doesn’t help and makes me feel worse!

TheSunIsStillShining · 23/09/2020 18:49

Every day something chocolate amounting to equal about half a table of choc (chocolate, tiffin,...)

  1. on the other hand I don't eat breakfast, never have. Don't really eat lunch as by that time the choc fills me up enough
  2. I cook every day healthy, balanced proper dinners.

If my son would be doing this I'd lose my shit probably :) double-standards rule.

DontTouchTheMoustache · 23/09/2020 18:50

What, per day? 😂
I have a hotel chocolat stash that is going down verrrry quickly. I calorie count tho so I can eat anything within my calorie allowance and I'm still losing about 1lb per week. I try to stick to the rule of 80% nutritious and 20% shite rule Grin tho during shark week all bets are off.

Bagelsandbrie · 23/09/2020 18:53

Wow I feel a bit Shock at some of these replies.

I eat what I like when I like. I eat chocolate or cake or whatever every day. And when I say chocolate I mean a family sized bar. And then a cake at some point too.

I do eat healthy meals. Really healthy. Lots of fish, veg and fruit etc and home cook everything. Rarely have take aways or use jars of stuff.

But I have a sweet tooth and LOVE treats.

I could probably do with losing a stone or two, but my weight just stays the same regardless so I don’t feel motivated to lose it. I do a lot of walking and currently doing couch to 5k.

I don’t know how people can get through a day without some sort of cake or pudding or treat...!

NoUsername873 · 23/09/2020 18:53

I eat what I want when I want, but what I want is not often junk food I just don’t crave processed foods like biscuits, cake or icecream I don’t even have them in the house because it won’t get eaten

WhentheDealGoesDown1 · 23/09/2020 18:53

Something chocolate every day and something like cheesecake or trifle most days, I do prefer sweet creamy stuff to savoury, DH likes savoury things like pork pie

AliceAbsolum · 23/09/2020 18:56

Most days, but that's why I run 5 miles a day. Worth it.

the half a table of choc made me laugh. Grin

Wotsits is my thing. I'm trying wean myself onto just one packet now and again, not a six pack in 10 mins. So far, so good... but I only bought them this afternoon.

CrunchyNutNC · 23/09/2020 19:03

Having been a fiend for sweets, chocolate, sugary cakes etc for years, and got really overweight and felt horrid I cut right back on the sugary stuff. At the peak I could scoff a whole box of chocs, a desert, and still be making 4 slices of toast an hour later.

I honestly didn't intend to never eat sugary stuff again, I intended to just eat it far less often, and keep it as a treat. However what actually happened is that after a couple of weeks my sugar/ carb craving waned and I don't really find myself desperate for it now at all. If I do indulge regardless I get a horrible hangover type thing the next day, which really puts me off the next time.

So now in principle I'm not against scoffing a huge fresh cream meringue every so often when I'm otherwise pretty healthy. I just find I'm not that bothered about it, and suspect I'd not feel great afterwards, so I don't.

I do like a bit of dark chocolate though, and find a square or two feels like an indulgence, feels like enough, and doesn't make me feel bloated afterwards.

Camomila · 23/09/2020 19:06

Every day right now...one week until I hand my dissertation in and DS2 (nearly 8m) has just gone back to wanting to bf at night!
Am running on carbs, sugar, and caffeine.,

Lemonyfuckit · 23/09/2020 19:08

Probably about once, max twice a week - as in a pudding / a bar of chocolate / a couple of biscuits / a packet of crisps

I don't usually have a sweet tooth but I definitely notice that the more I eat chocolate / sweet things, the more I want them. Also if I could get away with it, if I had a cup of tea or coffee to dunk them in, I would merrily eat half a packet of biscuits, so try to limit the occasions I eat any.
