Posting here for traffic.

Exactly that. At the grand age of nearly 30 I'm asking what a fever feels like 😬

Didn't own a thermometer until too long ago so I've never really used.

I've had episodes of feeling hot and cold with a virus such as a bad cold or a bad throat. Like where one minute you are hot then the next you are cold. Is that a fever? Don't think I've ever had flu.

I don't feel poorly right now other than a very slight sore throat which I must have caught off my partner. He's had a sore throat this week that went after a couple days. I also have two dc. It's pretty obvious when they have a fever.

I get that you feel hot but how hot should you feel? For September is very mild and muggy where I live and I've been hot all day but even with resting I still feel warm. Mainly around my face and neck. I also feel clammy. I was boiling hot sweating all night and kept waking up.

But I've checked my temperature and it's normal! Well I say normal. This morning I was around 36.6. This evening around 37. How rapidly does a fever come on?!

Am I just feeling the affects of this Indian summer we are experiencing?

Despite feeling warm my back and chest are feeling normal. It's just around the facial area. So hot, sweaty and clammy!

Your temperature sounds normal and it'll fluctuate through the day. Generally when you have a fever you'll feel cold and possibly a bit shivery, but hot to touch on your head and chest. It can come on pretty fast.

RedDiamond · 21/09/2020 21:29

This weekend it was either hot flushes or a fever! 36.1-36.2. Normally I am around 35.4. Don't know why my normal temperature is so low but there you go.

nicknamehelp · 21/09/2020 21:29

When your temp fever high you feel hot to the touch but you feel really cold and can even have goosebumps and be shivering.

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 21/09/2020 21:30

When I have a temp I don't feel hot iyswim. It's more dizzy, lightheaded, woozy, weak. Unmistakably poorly.

Bramblecrumble · 21/09/2020 21:32

I used to get a temperature as a child but can't remember getting one as an adult. It was when I was too ill to get out of bed, it was hard to think straight and felt shivery. But a thermometer is your best tool of analysis.

Nochangeplease · 21/09/2020 21:32

I feel cold and shivery, then once I take paracetamol I start sweating. I also get a restless feeling in my legs and just generally feel like death when I have a fever.

RedDiamond · 21/09/2020 21:34

I actually, few years ago, had a temperature of 40. I did not even realise I had a temperature. GP took it because I went to the surgery feeling under the weather. Turned out I had a massive chest infection.

What I am trying to say is that quite often you do not realise you have a temperature rise and you can have no symptoms that you yourself actually recognise. I did not feel hot for example.

Serena1977 · 21/09/2020 21:34

When I have a temperature I am boiling to touch but I feel super cold so much so I want to wrap myself in loads of blanket and I'm shivering. It's a horrible feeling to feel so icy cold yet be burning up.

Sorryusernamealreadyexists · 21/09/2020 21:34

You’ll feel absolutely hypothermic freezing, you’ll be shivering and want to cover yourself in many layers! You might also get a pounding headache. I find when the fever breaks I sweat uncontrollably. It’s like the opposite of how you think you’d feel

Popfan · 21/09/2020 21:36

You know when you have a high temperature without a thermometer! Definitely chills and shivering sometimes, especially as the temp starts. Burning type of feeling to your skin - do you remember the ready brek advert with the golden glow all around the outside of your body, it feels like that looks! You also feel pretty horrid in yourself too usually.

tryingmybest29 · 21/09/2020 21:37

Thanks all. Definitely no layers wanted here tonight. Boiling hot. My partner is complaining of being warm too. I think it's just really muggy! I do get anxiety sweating too and I've had a rough few days so that doesn't help!

Just about to jump in a cold shower!

I get shivers and goosebumps and wrap up only to sweat, kick covers off, get shivers and repeat.

yeOldeTrout · 21/09/2020 21:39

Hot & weak and headachy & fatigued and ... flushed. Have you never felt flushed, OP? Do you blush if embarrassed? But constant.

keziahthecat · 21/09/2020 21:40

I get a fever when I have a bad cold. As others have said I feel incredibly cold, last time my husband came home to me covered in blankets shivering uncontrollably and made me take all the layers off and put a cold flannel on me. He told me off when he saw I'd put the layers on again. Then when the pain relief starts to work you start to feel really hot.

Pinkypie86 · 21/09/2020 21:44

Do any of you suffer night sweats? I have been having them for around 5 weeks- permanently. I have experienced them before on occasion. My OH had to wake me last night because I was dripping in sweat yet freezing when I woke. :/

londongirl12 · 21/09/2020 21:45

If you're not sure if you've had flu, then you haven't. Had it for the first time 2 years ago. My partner said the heat was just radiating off me! I've never felt so unwell in my life!!

1Morewineplease · 21/09/2020 21:46

Im 56.
I've had proper flu once , when I was 17.

I sweated buckets. My bed was wet. Every joint in my body ached so badly. I felt hotter than a desert and I hallucinated. I thought that my parents were going to stab me!!!! I was in bed for nearly two weeks. The heat was like a furnace was opened onto me. My bedroom window was wide open but it made no difference. Hell on Earth .

adogisforlife91 · 21/09/2020 21:47

You feel absolutely freezing you want all the covers and blankets, and you get so angry with DP when they try to take all the covers away because they can feel the heat radiating from you from a metre away.

Benjispruce2 · 21/09/2020 21:48

Cold then sweaty, cold then sweaty, repeat.

cosmo30 · 21/09/2020 22:33

Shivering cold but sweating buckets. No amount of layers stops the chills. Had proper flu once and it was awful

PeetaSue · 21/09/2020 22:41

I had one in February, I was in the hospital for something unrelated (day surgery) and they sent me home without the surgery because I had a fever. I felt really cold and shivery and just very tired and week. I was hot to touch but didn't feel hot. I had my coat on all day.

Then I had a really bad one as a child where I was having hallucinations and was screaming at my mum that there was a bomb in the house whilst I was lay on the sofa shivering and kept drifting in and out of consciousness. Apparently I'd just told her that morning that I didn't feel very well and then that's how I ended up. She said it was the most scared she's ever been. The hospital didn't know what it was and it came down again and I was fine after a couple of days!

PeetaSue · 21/09/2020 22:42

Weak*

SerenDippitty · 21/09/2020 22:56

I remember once having a virus and a fever and lying in bed I actually felt it breaking. It was a wonderful feeling.

lljkk · 23/09/2020 19:47

I don't remember fever ever making me sweat.
I got rigors though. I can talk at length about the delights of rigors.
DH said I was burning to touch. 41 degr C when I got to hospital.
