1 year old napping outside?

Hi, so my 1 year old Ds started nursery today as I have just started a new job. He had a couple of settling in sessions which seemed fine, he done 4 hours yesterday and then had his first full day today while I was at work.
My issue is, I got an update on the app of him napping outside on what seemed like a mat on the floor, he had what looked like a blanket covering him but that's it?
Now I immediately sent the picture to my husband in an angry look at this it's terrible way, for him to respond, "yeah he seems fine" I think its awful that they didn't take him inside and put him in a cot. Am I over reacting?
It was a pleasant enough day and it was sunny, not sure on the temp as Iv been inside all day, but I just feel really put off by it and I feel reluctant to send him back again. Or am I just being unreasonable?

You’re being unreasonable. Sorry.

Abraid2 · 18/09/2020 20:22

It’s good for them to sleep outside.

Toddlerteaplease · 18/09/2020 20:23

YABU he was clearly comfortable or he wouldn't have slept.

RealityExistsInTheHumanMind · 18/09/2020 20:23

Yes you are over reacting. It isn't cold and he was covered.

Not sure what your problem is? It's far healthier outside than in.

DimidDavilby · 18/09/2020 20:23

But it's so lovely to sleep outside?

DappledThings · 18/09/2020 20:24

Sounds fine to me. Crash mats rather than cots are pretty common and the children all get very comfy on them.

Not sure where you are but here it would have been plenty warm enough too.

RunningFromInsanity · 18/09/2020 20:24

It’s better for them to let him stay where he fell asleep, than try and move and risk waking him.
They covered him with a blanket and I’m sure checked on him.

Nursery is tiring, he needed a little power nap bless him.

OverTheRainbow88 · 18/09/2020 20:25

Ours sleep on mats on the floor form the age of about 2 though.

nowaitaminute · 18/09/2020 20:25

Sleeping outside has proven to be very beneficial OP YABU!

SleepingStandingUp · 18/09/2020 20:25

Was he in the way of other kids? Was there a risk that anyone else would tread on him?
I mean I might ask how it happened as a point of interest but assuming he was safe, what else do you need

Seafog · 18/09/2020 20:25

Skeeping outside is healthy for people, little ones included. If they were unhappy or uncomfortable, then they wouldnt have fallen asleep.

OrangeGinLemonFanta · 18/09/2020 20:25

My DS had almost all his naps outside, from he was a small baby, except for in the very worst weather. YABU, where is the harm?

Thegirlhasnoname · 18/09/2020 20:26

YABU. Toddler DD (almost 2) has been napping outside at nursery since they returned after lockdown as it is less likely for anything to spread whilst being outdoors. She’s been fine and not got a constant snotty nose - surprisingly! - from sleeping outdoors until the shelters but they do bring them indoors for naps if it is raining sideways.

Applesandpears23 · 18/09/2020 20:26

Most nurseries use mats rather than cots once kids are walking. It is safer than having them climb out. Sounds like he had a good nap. Was he in the shade?

BillywilliamV · 18/09/2020 20:26

What exactly were you worried about OP?

whatswithtodaytoday · 18/09/2020 20:28

Sounds lovely, I don't see why this is a problem? Better let him sleep there than risk waking him to take him inside. Nice fresh air, and probably quieter too.

bigmamama · 18/09/2020 20:30

So the manager asked me yday about his naps and I said he usually naps in his cot, Iv seen there sleep room and they do have cots and a sleeping area on the floor with lots of pillows and blankets.
There was about 8-10 other kids there roughly I'm not sure where he was placed in the garden they have tho.
My issue is that he'd be cold? Get a cold? Be knocked into by another child? He already has a very green runny nose, so I suspect sleeping outside won't help matters.
Also just not keen on it and would expect him to be put down for a nap properly not in the midst of kids playing. Not entirely sure how long he napped for.

He didn't just lay down and fall asleep she sang to him and held his hand so he went to sleep. It said in the post she sent me

Mine napped better outside from.a few weeks (days?) Old. Mainly when I was pushing the pram, but I could park it up outside the back door when we got home.

They spent a large proportion of lockdown camping I the garden (9yo clocked up 150 nights running out of bed!) She grew a few inches this summer too....

Hercwasonaroll · 18/09/2020 20:33

I always put my kids outside to sleep, even in the depths of winter.

You sound very precious.

DappledThings · 18/09/2020 20:33

That sounds lovely.

He won't have been left anywhere other children can be trampling over him and he won't have been left to get cold. It's fine, really.

Looneytune253 · 18/09/2020 20:37

Seriously? You are being a bit precious. If your ds was uncomfortable he wouldn't be falling asleep. Sleep outside is beneficial. Also you don't catch cold from being cold. Basic stuff. Please try and trust them seems like they're doing fab!!

OrangeGinLemonFanta · 18/09/2020 20:37

Outside naps, affectionate staff - sounds like a wonderful nursery.

Lolalovesmarmite · 18/09/2020 20:37

If he was cold he wouldn’t have stayed asleep and fresh air is a much healthier environment than a stuffy sleep room in a nursery. I think it’s lovely that she held his hand and sang to him. I put my LO outside for naps as much as possible (within sight obviously). I understand why you’d be worried if you’re not really an outside sort of person, but I think it’s great and you’re lucky to have such a nice nursery.

KarlKennedysDurianFruit · 18/09/2020 20:38

If there were ten children playing outside and your DS was tired should they have left him inside alone or taken all of the children back in? One staff member supervising a sleeping one year old would mean the ratios for the group outside were under. He had a nice nap in the fresh air, which btw doesn't give you a cold, germs do. YABU
