Do you just wipe it or spray a bit of Dettol on it or something else?

Never cleaned my phone. Never going to either.

Ridiculous carry on.

SueEllenMishke · 18/09/2020 20:26

I don't unless it visibly needs a wipe down but that's because I like the screen looking clean and nothing to do with Covid

emptyshelvesagain · 18/09/2020 20:26

I don't clean mine. And I don't worry about it having covid on it. It wears a mask when we go shopping Grin

Toddlerteaplease · 18/09/2020 20:27

I don't either.

DappledThings · 18/09/2020 20:28

I give it a wipe on my sleeve when I have spilt something on it or when DC have been at it with excessively sticky fingers.

DottyWott · 18/09/2020 20:30

I bought a waterproof case at start of lockdown so I could wipe it down regularly/ occasionally spray with dettol. Only problem is no one can hear me the mic is too muffled! I work in nhs and want to clean my phone often. I also go round work wiping all the phones down! Manky things phones.

SabrinaThwaite · 18/09/2020 20:31

If you don’t have any handy alcohol wipes, I’ve heard that raw chicken is a perfectly acceptable substitute.

Why don't you clean it now? Do you not worry about covid on it?
Why would your phone have Covid on it?

tornadoalley · 18/09/2020 20:33

I don't. No one uses it but me and I wash or anti bac my hands first

Twickerhun · 18/09/2020 20:36
@Twickerhun

How long can it live for though?
Well it depends on the temperature, 72 hours maybe, but you are Highly unlikely to get sick from a standard phone surface unless someone coats it in fluid from their lungs and you licked it. Seriously the virus won’t easily end up on your phone and if it does it would be in tiny quantities. If contact spreading was a problem we couldn’t manage supermarket shopping etc. Scientists are starting to move away from worrying about Surface contact spreading. They are no longer advising on obsessive cleaning unless you work in a cold storage location. Wash your hands still. Don’t touch your face. Don’t let people get to close to you for too long. Don’t let anyone breath or cough or sneeze in your face.

lifesalongsong · 18/09/2020 20:44

How are phones getting covid germs on them? This is literally the first I've ever heard of special cleaning. Are you all cleaning the rest of the contents of your handbags?

BigBadVoodooHat · 18/09/2020 21:04

Are you all cleaning the rest of the contents of your handbags?

Are you new to MN, the place where toilet seats are sterilised in the dishwasher, bed linen is changed every 14 minutes, and anything you touch must be instantly doused with carbolic acid? Grin

RedRosie · 18/09/2020 21:07

It's a virus. Antibac wipes won't kill it! Bleach or a specific antiviral substance would, but I don't recommend.

Although I don't think most people are in danger from their phones, you should probably clean them occasionally anyway, regardless of the current situation. Damp kitchen roll maybe, or a glass cleaner.

Wash your hands. Don't touch your face. Much more important.

Londoner99 · 18/09/2020 21:11

I spray hypochlorous acid onto a tissue and wipe it down, works very well.

BananaPop2020 · 18/09/2020 21:14

I give it a wipe with a tea towel if it is smeared and that is it. I can’t stand all this paranoid, obsessive behaviour.

QueenofmyPrinces · 18/09/2020 21:17

People clean their mobile phones in case there is Covid on it?

I thought people quarantining their shopping was the strangest thing I’d heard about....

AriettyHomily · 18/09/2020 21:17

I don't. Skanky.

Roomba · 18/09/2020 21:23

@jb2941

Also, I'm amazed people don't wipe their phones. I was wiping mine way before covid. We touch them so much!
I've always cleaned my phone frequently as I've read plenty articles about studies showing how much faecal and other harmful bacteria accumulates on them. Grim. And yes my bag gets wiped down too, particularly the bottom and handles. I make my kids wash their hands when they get in from school/out too. If that sounds OTT, I assure you that I am very slovenly in many other domestic ways to make up for it! None of us has had a stomach bug in years, touch wood, the fact it may help against covid too is a bonus.
KatieAlcock · 18/09/2020 21:24

I use a soft dry cloth when I get honey or chocolate on it.
Otherwise no.

Thisismytimetoshine · 18/09/2020 21:24

How can faecal matter accumulate on your phone? Hmm.

SomewhereEast · 18/09/2020 21:25

I don't either, unless the kids manage to smear food on it or something. MN really is another world...

AmelieTaylor · 18/09/2020 21:26

I give it a good wipe with a Dettol wipe when I come home, then I use the wipe on my keys. I wash my debit/credit card while I'm washing my hands and mask and often pop the phone out of the soft plastic case & wash that too.

I put a lot of the shopping in the spare room to quarantine & wash the non veg items that go in the fridge the veg goes in the large drawer and gets washed when I use it.

I open mail straight away, put envelopes in recycling, deal with the contents then wash my hands

I like the inside of my house to be a space when I don't need to worry about touching my face etc.

It's not perfect as I don't wash my clothes straight away & have a shower, but it's enough that I feel comfortable at home.

It's a shame people cant accept & respect other people with mocking.

Roomba · 18/09/2020 21:27

Forgot to say that I clean it by removing the case that completely encloses it and washing with warm water/dishwashing soap. I use antibac wipes on the screen on the phone, tablet screens, on keyboards, laptops and mice regularly too. And door handles. Because while I wash my hands well, I don't entirely trust small children or colleagues to always follow suit frankly.

Roomba · 18/09/2020 21:30

Faecal matter accumulates if you use your phone on the loo, or don't wash your hands well, or you touch door handles, shared keyboards etc with people who do these things.

Phone screens carry ten times the amount of bacteria as toilet seats, on average, according to studies.

adawong · 18/09/2020 21:30

45 minutes delicate wash and then dry it out in the microwave for 2 minutes. No problem. But then it is an Huawei so it's going to kill me anyway
