AIBU OR MY "FRIEND" HAS LOST THE PLOT?

My DD always liked to play with trucks, cars, planes and stuff like that and doesn't like dolls at all. Also I never liked to dress her much in pink as I like all colours and she does also. She's 5. My
so called friend has 2 DD and she's all about dressing them only in pink making them "princesses".
She started telling me I should not let my DD play with trucks and boys toys as she will grow into a weirdo and i should dress her like a princess because she's a girl. She also bought my DD a few dolls on her birthday when I told her she doesn't like them.
AIBU to let my DD play with whatever she likes?

Your friend is from the dark ages and needs to get with the program xxx

@BatShite

Bloody ridiculous. Of course let your child play with whatever she likes.

Stereotypical nonsense.

Same. I had the go kart and skiing outfit too...

Sorry this was in response to the Action Man comment

Why would you do something to make her unhappy? Of course you should let her play with what she wants. Especially the empty boxe Grin

IMHO it doesn’t really matter what you dress girls in or what toys they play with they will be who they want to be. DNiece was the pinkest pinkest princess as a toddler ( her own choice). She is now a keen footballer and about to become a civil engineer. If you saw her dressed up she is still a princess but with the mind and attitude of an independent woman.
Her aunts and DM all went into predominantly male fields (1970s/80s) but are all very feminine, makeup wearing, clothes obsessed women. We just haven’t ring fenced our brains or ambition.

@qazxc

Refer to this handy chart.
Excellent definition!

Thank you!

She’s odd, your DD should be free to play with whatever she likes. When my DC were small I knew a mum that dressed her DD in typically boys clothes and bought cars etc but that was against what her daughter wanted but she wanted to be hip iyswim.

You should let your DD play with what she likes.
My DD liked anything with wheels, farming stuff anddogs and horses when she was tiny - she is grown up now and works on a farm with cows, has a tractor, an HGV licence, drives a lorry, and has horses and a dog. She still won't wear dresses (useless to crawl in) or wear pink (everyone else wears pink, it's boring), but she does wear purple and has a purple car.
Her best friend when aged 2-3 liked to wear pink, and still does sometimes. He doesn't like animals or vehicles, he's very trendy and into music. I don't think it's a coincidence he liked to play toy guitars and drums as a toddler.
