Baby on Board sign?

What is wrong with a baby on board sign?

I've seen this come a lot on another thread, that it annoys people.

Why?

@sarge89

A police officer told me they're useful if you're in a crash then they know there may have been a baby/child in the car too. That's why I have one 🤷‍♀️
That's why I had one too
StarchyStanley · 17/09/2020 15:45

I think people are getting up in arms because some are defending their decorating choices with complete nonsense re safety. If you want one, go on ahead but stop making out its for the benefit of the emergency services

Right, so the pp who said they wanted to deliberately rear end cars with these stickers was that angry because people are defending their decorating choices with nonsense about safety?

Yes, maybe the 'what if?' extends to what if the sign got in the way and caused an accident? So maybe the likelihood of that happening compared to a paramedic finding it useful (bearing in mind that some people on here have heard this from paramedics and police), makes it about even. So, no cause for the level of absolute rage on here, is there?

But maybe it doesn't. We have countless paramedics, firefighters, police etc saying it makes not a jot of difference to their efforts when at the scene of an accident. So what if the risk of it causing an accident is substantially greater than the chances of anyone being saved in the event that anyone even sees the sign after a serious accident, let alone does anything different to what they would be doing anyway?

We’ve no evidence to suggest that.

Ok, so then all of the outrage on here has been on the grounds of safety? This is why people said "it reeks of entitlement", "why should I give a fuck if you have a baby?", "it makes me want to rear end the cars who display them" and so on? This was out of concern for safety?

And if the professionals don't agree that it is necessarily any safer to display them, they certainly don't seem to agree that they are actually dangerous either.

But, if people are determined to turn this into some sort of anger masturbation session, I mean, there isn't too much more I can say tbh 🤷‍♀️. Perhaps it's cathartic for some people to tell people why they are smug, entitled and "I don't care if you have a baby froth froth" or something. I don't know. But this thread? It got weird, pretty fast. Even by AIBU standards!

Pelleas · 17/09/2020 16:00

I think they're pointless, but equally, they're harmless so if people feel better having one in their car window, why not?

AllPlayedOut · 17/09/2020 16:01

Outrage = Having an opinion?

My blood pressure hasn't raised one iota throughout this thread.

AriesTheRam · 17/09/2020 16:03

"Powered by fairy dust" is far more annoying imo

Who's talking about you? You've already said you are completely calm. Good for you!
AllPlayedOut · 17/09/2020 16:05

You quoted one of my comments(well paraphrased it) so presumably I am one of the people you are talking to.

StarchyStanley · 17/09/2020 16:05

Because WTF is the point of the bloody things? Am I supposed to prostate myself before them in awe at the beauty of their offspring/ability to conceive?

So, so calm and level headed. I can practically hear whale song as I float off into meditation here 😂

Oh God, yes! And those ridiculous headlight eyelashes.
StarchyStanley · 17/09/2020 16:07

Why am I supposed to give a flying fuck that there is a child on board. Why do I need to know? I'd rather not kill anyone whether they are 8 months or 80.

Yes, this was you! Sorry, didn't actually realise. I did paraphrase. Do you think I misrepresented what you said by doing so?

AriesTheRam · 17/09/2020 16:07

@VinylDetective yes a fellow hater! 👏

AllPlayedOut · 17/09/2020 16:08

That's how I normally talk on here. It doesn't mean that I'm actually getting worked up or foaming at the mouth. If anything you can and TheKeatingFive seem to be getting far more worked up and outraged over people daring to express an opinion on the stickers.

I work quite closely with the emergency services, and can honestly say, that in an accident, the whole vehicle is checked for people, regardless of whether there is a sign in the window or not.

However, the signs do have their uses. They're a good indicator of the quality of driver behind the wheel, and to avoid them at all costs.

AllPlayedOut · 17/09/2020 16:12

Just as you ask why the stickers/signs bother me so much, I'm interested to know why my dislike of them seems to trouble you to this extent?

AllPlayedOut · 17/09/2020 16:13

Some are stickers. I've definitely seen stickers.

ShineOnYouCrazyDiamond88 · 17/09/2020 16:13

Wow lots of angry, bitter people. Why do you care so much what stickers others have on their car?
I also don't understand why so many people with a massive chip on their shoulder about parents are even on a parenting forum. Is it to bait and get a reaction? I guess it's succeeded, judging by the number of responses.
And yes, I have a baby on board sticker. My husband bought it, because he liked it. I'm not smug or entitled, I know it's probably useless in a crash but it doesn't do any harm either and it's just a bit of fun.

Doesn't bother me - just interested to know your opinion Smile

MamaWell Sorry that was for StarchyStanley. Not you.

MaryShelley1818 · 17/09/2020 16:28

Well it's widely known that they're not used for safety reasons.
I agree they're just slightly tacky car decorations.

I don't know anyone who has used that type of thing. I would never use that sort of thing but each to their own. I wouldn't express that opinion in RL.

@AllPlayedOut

You disliking them doesn't bother me. It's definitely a personal taste thing. I don't have one. Don't have strong views either way on them.

What I find utterly baffling was the strength of feeling, which you appear to have, and also some others on here. It doesn't seen altogether healthy, but that really isn't my business. Just yours.

I didn't join the thread at the beginning as it is such a meh subject to me. But as the thread grew and the posts appeared to be getting more and more furious, I was honestly just curious as to why on earth people are giving such a huge shit about something which really doesn't effect them.

I've quoted you at least twice and you sound angry in each post. I haven't got like that at all. I am bemused and incredulous at how little it seems to take to get people to driving into other cars on purpose level. That doesn't strike you as a little weird?? Your posts make you sound aggressive. If that is a misrepresentation of your intent then obviously that's just your posting style, but, yikes.
