Look for black mumsnetters 👍🏿

Keeping others of a different "race" away or banning them from being included based on their "race". Is the textbook definition of racist

Nobody.
Is.
Being.
Banned.
From.
Them.
Just saying don;t be going posting all this pages of bollocks that have been spouted on these threads. and why on earth do some people have to make EVERYTHING about them?!

OhReallyThen · 16/09/2020 16:34

There should be one for Asian parents too.

@MNHQ if you see this please don't just create an 'asians' board.

Asia is massive and calling us asians just encourages the homogenising of us into one 'other'.

Also because Asia is so big there's very little that is common across the whole of it. The struggles an Indian woman would face or questions she'd have are very different to that of a Thai or Chinese woman.

You could perhaps categorise us down into culturally similar groups (south Asians, south East Asians ect) if it's too difficult to go by countries (indian, Korean, Japanese ect) but please don't just lazily dump us together into one group of 'Asians'

Bowerbird5 · 16/09/2020 16:35

It is a shame it is needed. I always treat people with respect no matter who they are. I suppose I was lucky that I had good parents. It must be awful to face racial prejudice. I have only experienced it once by our neighbours as I don't have a British accent. It upset me but to face it a lot must be truly dreadful.

Good luck I hope it is a lovely corner for people to find love and support.

Quaagars · 16/09/2020 16:36

This is worth it just to enjoy your tantrums

The amount of toys being thrown out of prams is unbelievable lol
Showing over and over again exactly WHY black people need a space to sometimes share their experiences, advice, tips, recipes, etc just like Scotsnet/Craicnet/LGBT/SEN/Adoption boards do

Dyrne · 16/09/2020 16:36

@YeaSure does that mean that the SN board is discriminating against neurotypical people by having a separate space to discuss SN? Or is the LGBT section discriminating against straight people by having a separate space to discuss LGBT?

Or... and hear me out here for this radical thought... does it make sense for a particular demographic to want a dedicated space to discuss challenges and issues specific to their demographic without someone popping in to scream “but what about the [random, completely unrelated demographic]?”

It’s not so much that non-black people aren’t welcome, it’s just that we won’t have much experience to comment on issues specific to, for example, managing haircare for their biracial daughter. Just as I’d not think to barge on to the SN board to tell someone how they manage their child’s autism meltdowns, I wouldn’t really think to go into the Black MNetter section to tell someone how they should approach the stop-and-search conversation with their black teen son who lives in London.

Sanitisethat · 16/09/2020 16:36

I don’t know what it is about race specifically that makes people feel they are being denied their monumental right to Share Their Opinions. The views of omnivores aren’t particularly welcome on the vegan board, but people don’t seem to get their knickers in a twist over that. They’ll happily accept that they don’t have anything useful to contribute. I’ve never seen anyone bitch about being banned from posting there, or that it’s exclusionary. Same with the LGBT board - straights are fine with that existing. But for some reason, you create a board for black people and a bunch of white people decide they’re the victims of internet apartheid, viciously discriminated against because their views on something they don’t experience aren’t being placed front and centre for once.

Bowerbird5 · 16/09/2020 16:37

Well said OhReallyThen

deFleury · 16/09/2020 16:37

As a regular on Craicnet it seems crazy that there hasn't been a black MNer forum before now. Good luck to ye all.

Those who think dedicated areas are needed for other ethnicities, nationalities or any other groupings with shared minority experiences should start your own threads in Site Stuff. Because going on about it on this thread makes you look like an all lives matter nutter at a BLM rally.

MargotsBumpyNight · 16/09/2020 16:37

Whole lotta racists telling on themselves here..

Is Xenia Katie Hopkins?

WaxOnFeckOff · 16/09/2020 16:38

I'm not black, I can't see any issue with it. I'm mostly in Scotsnet as there are particular things we discuss that are quite specifically different from the general threads such as different education, law etc that means you can have a discussion without constantly having to explain different rules etc. The Irish folks got their own space just after us.

I'm sure there are specific cultural things you might want to chat about without being told that you are wrong/have the wrong idea etc etc as well as other threads in the main part of the site that you can contribute to.

We make anyone welcome but I would say that aside from the odd person who wandered in by accident not realising it was in Scotsnet, most of the posts from people not in Scotland are folks looking for advise when moving here or recommendations for holiday visits, it's nice.

I don't see how it's any different than having a group for any other reason.

Good luck with it :)

Tellmetruth4 · 16/09/2020 16:38

All of your hard work paid off. Well done. I’m mixed race but will be on that board as I don’t feel very safe on this board sometimes. There has been infiltration of a lot of racists who would have no problem with other sub-boards such as LGBT, adoption, SEN etc.

They literally can’t bear it when racial minorities appear to have gained something. I’m sure some of them will go on the board simply to cause trouble.

They don’t get the irony in that they are on Mumsnet which is a safe space for women to talk about issues which affect them. If a large number of men came on to complain about the existence of Mumsnet or attempted to shout down women, all hell would break loose.

Iggypoppie · 16/09/2020 16:41

Well done. Hope you find it a good space. As a white woman I am very sad at those who have been critical. We are all mostly women be have other identities too that intersect. Only one thing I would ask is why it's not BAME? Is it a case that not everyone likes this term? (Just curious).

BloggersBlog · 16/09/2020 16:41

Xenia, if it bothers you that much then put in the effort and ask MNHQ for a section for women who earn over a certain amount Hmm. PatricksRum has put in the effort because it is an important enough issue to her.

No point in complaining about something if you haven.t asked for it.

It is exactly why All Lives Matter is so pointless. If the issue was so important, then why didnt someone organise an ALM rally last year, the year before, etc etc. Dont wait until someone else gets off their backside and does something and then say what about us/be offended.

DO IT YOURSELF

Lilybet1980 · 16/09/2020 16:42

@nevermorelenore

This forum is one of the biggest advocates for women-only spaces, yet so many posters can't see why black women might want their own forum.
This with bells on.

Good work and I hope black Mumsnetters get what they want from the board. I also hope they won’t mind me taking a (silent) peak every now and then so I can learn more about the issues facing black parents (I genuinely had no idea about “the chat” until I saw it referenced on MN).

You learn something every day - didn't know these other boards existed.
EDSGFC · 16/09/2020 16:43

Dyrne

Your arguments would be more valid if MN agreed to let other minorities have their own board, if they want it though.

Given the report on here that it's been asked for, for some time, and hasn't happened why has it been granted only for black mumsnetters? Because that does, on first glance, suggest discrimination.

ToastyCrumpet · 16/09/2020 16:43

I have just had a read through the topics on the Black Mumsnetters forum and found it interesting and informative but since I’m not black myself I’m happy to butt out post on other forums. Why some people are whining about this forum I really don’t know. I don’t go round whingeing about all the many forums that are not relevant to me. I just stick to the ones that are.

Saucery · 16/09/2020 16:44

Did Xenia ask for a section for high earners? I’ve got a serious LOL/CRINGE dichotomy going on here Grin Grin

Quaagars · 16/09/2020 16:44

Only one thing I would ask is why it's not BAME? Is it a case that not everyone likes this term? (Just curious)

I think there already is a BAME board (someone correct me if I'm wrong), so as that covered such a broad range, people wanted somewhere specifically for black issues too for more tailored advice/tips

PainyRuddles · 16/09/2020 16:45
@DoubleDolphin oh get a grip. It's a board for black people to talk about issues that might not affect other races where they won't get shouted down by the middle class white women, as happens in every thread here on race. I'm white by the way.

Congrats to the poster who got the boards made! Glad you now have a safe space.
So now how about boards for the other Ethnic Minorities who get shouted down by "white middle aged women".

Do they not also deserve the space to chat about their issues too?

EarthlyTent · 16/09/2020 16:45

Agree with all this. Very well said.

She’s MUCH richer than Katie Hopkins 😂😂
Goslowlysideways · 16/09/2020 16:46

The racists are struggling.

Making it even more important to have a forum for BAME people.

EarthlyTent · 16/09/2020 16:46

So now how about boards for the other Ethnic Minorities who get shouted down by "white middle aged women"

I think you can start a thread in Site Stuff requesting it. If there are enough users of that ethnicity who feel it would be useful, I don't see why mumsnet wouldn't create one.

Iggypoppie · 16/09/2020 16:47

@Quaagars oh thanks. That makes it even more silly of the complainers 🙈
