Thanks to the fab PatricksRum for fighting against racism we've got our own board here

Look for black mumsnetters 👍🏿

Quaagars and Havaiana you keep repeating that anyone referencing now deleted posts is hearsay and not true, as if this discredits what those posters ( including me) are saying.

Anyone who read the previous threads whilst all the comments were there knows that these things WERE said and that we are relaying what was said. Those threads are now holier than Swiss cheese to quote MN usual thread deletion message.

All you are doing by repeatedly denying these posts existed is discrediting absolutely anything else you say, even if it may be a valid point. If you are prepared to lie about now deleted posts why should anybody believe anything you say?

PurpleHoodie · 17/09/2020 09:19

The wonderful thing about this thread is it shows the posters who are determined not to support the new BMN section.

Its logical to say they'll therefore stay away from it and leave it alone. Or they'll go and try to stir up racial tension, but they know they'll get short shift.

And everyone who wants to campaign to get it shut down knows they can go to Site Stuff and ask MNHQ.

EchoCardioGran · 17/09/2020 09:21

@ArtCatsPlants

I've just joined Mumsnet at 3 months pregnant and am so happy to see that there is a space for black mums to chat and speak about issues that affect them.

Concerning and tiring to see that the fact that a Black Mums board has been created is already drawing complaints of racism and apartheid?! Bloody hell apartheid! Trying to turn a system that historically truly negatively affected black people to fit your narrative is beyond frankly!

It will be a safe space to talk through issues that affect us surely. Why is that so triggering to people?

Anyway, lovely to meet you all and I will be joining the Black Mums Board as a mixed African/Welsh woman (to help the posters asking about if mixed race are allowed) I count myself as Black so I will be joining 😊

Hello, Croeso! Look forward to seeing you posting on Mumsnet!
Havaiana · 17/09/2020 09:35

@EDSGFC

I have doubts about your intentions, especially given your posts about the black couple who are more privileged than white working class people. I don’t think you are an ally.

Note @OnceUponAThimble who has quietly disappeared.

Phoenix21 · 17/09/2020 09:39

So apparently alleged posts stating that the threads were black only were deleted? How convenient.

If that’s true (I don’t believe they existed, I haven’t seen any nor has this been evidenced by discussion around it) then the fact that they were deleted tells us that mumsnet is not supporting a black only board.

Many of us including the campaigner have stated that all people are welcome. This has been ignored again and again by naysayers.

Quaagars · 17/09/2020 09:49

I posted lots of quotes from just a quick look that didn't say what people said they did.
It's easy for people to look for themselves as well if they're bothered.

Sanitisethat · 17/09/2020 10:04

So, basically you're ok with white people speaking up for some black people but not others??? That's not logical either is it?

Er, no. That’s not remotely what I have said. I’ve stated very clearly that it’s totally fine for some posters not to like / want the board, and to express that view, but that doesn’t mean the board shouldn’t exist. It simply means that the posters who don’t want to use it should ignore it, and let those who do want to use it crack on.

What I have an issue with is you criticising some white posters for expressing a positive view while upholding your own right as a white person to express a negative view. That’s pretty hypocritical.

Harryhenderson10 · 17/09/2020 10:13

To all the posters calling for a 'white board, for white people'
There already is one, just pop along to the KKK forum and I'm sure you'll find your white only space.

Otherwise let's just decide that black people feel the need for their own forum. Their reasons for a black only forum are theirs alone. You don't need to have anything to do with the board if it upsets you so just walk away and find something else to do.

The argument could be that if you wish to abolish a black only forum then you should be lobbying to abolish any white supremacy forums/groups, are you actively doing that? If not then surely that means only the back only spaces upset you? in which case that makes you......

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 17/09/2020 10:15

I really am interested to understand how white people will be kept off the black board? I mean it's the internet, how on earth are you going to filter people without doing it based on assumptions that people of a certain view point must be white and other view point must be black? You would end up with a weirdly homogenous board.

What makes you think white people cannot post on the black board?
PatricksRum · 17/09/2020 10:29

Just saw this!

Thank you everyone.

Was enjoying reading the lovely comments and then came across @DoubleDolphin 🙄

Typical.

Thanks for the thread @Marg33t

PatricksRum · 17/09/2020 10:31

@Bearbehind

why is it racist for black people to have a board where they can talk to other black people about their own individual experiences?

But it wouldn’t be allowed to have a section where only white people could post so why is the reverse ok?

My friend, you hsve your boards. They're all catered to your race.

If you want one called "White mumsnetters" probably about 99% of us then ask them. [email protected]
Fill your boots

PatricksRum · 17/09/2020 10:31

@LastTrainEast

I don't know what MNHQ decided in the end, but on one of the threads it was made clear it should be for black people only. No whites and no other 'races'.

There was a suggestion it should be more open (what about white parents who have black children for example) but that was strongly opposed.

There was a demand for black only mods too, but I don't know if it was taken seriously or not.

I expect MNHQ have spelt their decision out somewhere, but I've not seen it yet.

Yeah we're currently vetting everyone that posts...

Or not.

PatricksRum · 17/09/2020 10:32

@Todaythiscouldbe

So is it solely for black people? And - a genuine question - how do you know who anybody is on an anonymous forum?
We're all psychic.
PatricksRum · 17/09/2020 10:33

@TheQueef

Congratulations Gin What shall I bring to the Topic Warming?
We're looking for a curry goat Grin
Gatelodge · 17/09/2020 10:33

In case no one else has said it, worth flagging up that there's a new guest post linked from the main page on how black women in the UK are five times more likely to die in the perinatal period?

Every best wish to the new forum.

PatricksRum · 17/09/2020 10:33

@MyOldBeansy

Well done PatricksRum - I hope the board is a great source of support, help and some laughs.
Thank you Thanks
PatricksRum · 17/09/2020 10:34

@applepineapple

Get over yourself *@DoubleDolphin it's comments like this that make black mumsnetters want their own space. Frankly, I don't blame them. Congrats @PatricksRum* Thanks
Thank you apple!
PatricksRum · 17/09/2020 10:34

@DoubleDolphin

"I see no difference between this and groups for SAHMs, home schoolers, ex pat's etc"

I guess for me, the difference is that we are not told we cant go on these threads, whereas we are being told if you are not black, you cant go on the black only forum.

Where please?
Phoenix21 · 17/09/2020 10:35

@PatricksRum I assume I banned from cooking it 🤣🤣🤣🤣

PatricksRum · 17/09/2020 10:35

@OhReallyThen

As someone 'BAME not Black' I have no problem with there being a Black Mnetters board. However I wish *@MNHQ* had the common sense to create boards for other minority race communities too (Think Indian, SE Asian, Eastern European, Latin American ect). We have struggles that are unique to our race as well. And the inclusion of only a Black board and nothing for any other race just perpetuates the recent problem of racism being framed as a black/white narrative and white people congratulating themselves on being 'anti-racist' by reading a few black authors and going to one BLM march whilst they're racist to other minorities. There's all this talk of 'educate yourself' but so many white people only seem to want to be educated on black issues and when i try to bring up an issue of racism i've experienced they genuinley don't care. I was called a 'paki' at a BLM protest by someone so proud of themselves for being anti-racist and there's still all the 'go back to where you came from' and anti-muslim rhetoric that always resurfaces around 9/11.

The board for black MNetters is great and i fully support it. But @MNHQ can you please look into starting boards for other ethnic minorities you have large numbers of? We'd like a safe space too.

Lord.

Start your OWN thread to ask them. Like I did.
Then perhaps I'll invade your thread and make it all about me.

PatricksRum · 17/09/2020 10:36

@DimidDavilby

Well done *@Patricksrum*!

I am always amazed by her patience with the wilfully ignorant and goady.

Congratulations Black mumsnetters I hope your board proves useful.

Oh thank you so much.Thanks

You are making things up again. There are no bouncers, keep out signs, nor people who take your fingerprints. There is no CCTV, nobody follows you home or checks if you are wearing the right clothes. No credit checks are run.

People go on boards here as there is something relevant to them. It is as simple as that. There are a handful of posters such as yourself who are determined not to get it, and just love to whinge.

It's a little part of a very big forum that has many different doors to accommodate a diverse membership. People like to come together now and then in shared experience. Like Scotsnet, Craicnet, LGBT, Multicultural families, Pedants and so on....Simply put, that's it.

Huff and puff all you like but you won't blow the house down.

There really is no Conspiracy here.

"Comparing a subsection on an internet forum to apartheid...? Are you fucking serious?"

It's when they say no whites allowed and no other races allowed that doesnt sit right.

Again, where did you see that please?

Certainly not listen in our "rules" your stupid questions break rules however

PatricksRum · 17/09/2020 10:38
@WorraLiberty

That was literally me asking right there. And I and many other MNetters from other minority races have expressed a want for this over the past few months on multiple threads about racism. Hmm

And if you'd read my post properly you'd see I wasn't talking about people from other countries, I am very much british but also a member of an ethnic minority.

You would also just hope that a big company like MN would have the common sense and intelligence to realise that racism goes beyond the black/white narrative and think 'hmmm, one ethnic minority has shown us why they need a safe space, would make sense that others would too, maybe we should look into this'
Yeah.

When you start your OWN thread perhaps they will.
