Literally everyone in my family now has a cold!! First DD got it, then me, then DH and now the rest of remaining family.

What is going on!

There's definitely something going around, I know what you mean - everyone I know is coming down with it.

BritneyS · 15/09/2020 21:37

Shows how fucking stubborn the common cold is doesn’t it. Where has it been hiding?

Smallsteps88 · 15/09/2020 21:37

What is going on!

It was pretty predictable and discussed all over MN and IRL for the last few months tbh. Everyone staying at home since March- schools start back September, parents back to work, colds spread like wildfire.

Sunbird24 · 15/09/2020 21:39

My boss has gone down with manflu. His kids were ill last week but had negative tests so we know it’s not Covid. He was kind enough to call me this morning and cough down the phone instead of bringing it in to the office to take out the whole workforce!

Sh05 · 15/09/2020 21:39

Same at my house. First dd in reception then baby then the rest of us.

PurpleDaisies · 15/09/2020 21:39

It’s the time of year for it.

DominaShantotto · 15/09/2020 21:40

Kids have been off for 6 months and gone back to school. Remember those endless months of snot when they first started in the first place? You're back there again.

Gancanny · 15/09/2020 21:42

Ever heard of Freshers Flu? It's like that but nationwide.

KilljoysDutch · 15/09/2020 21:42

4 days in school and DS and I both have a cold. Not a single illness while they were off. It's pretty horrifying to realise how quickly and easily it's spread despite the coronavirus precautions being taken and doesn't give me much faith in them tbh.

RhinestoneCowgirl · 15/09/2020 21:45

DD (11) brought the cold home from school with her at the end of last week. She's now all chirpy and recovered and I and DS (14) are feeling snotty and rotten.

DH, who lives in our house, and gets fairly close to me, is so far disgustingly healthy. Bastard.

HotPatootiebootie · 15/09/2020 21:46

Same here. My sister never gets sick but has been sleeping 9.30-2.30 between school runs and is back in bed at 7-8pm. My daughter got sent home from high school today and said there was 9 kids in reception waiting..... so many they had to tape A4 pieces of paper to the floor for the to stand far enough apart. Apparently more kids went home in the afternoon. The school know it's unlikely corona ( although they have had several positive cases in teaching staff in the last wk) as it's very mucousy/snotty and a wet phlegmy cough. My ds and dd are saying that there chest feels odd and thrust is sure but it's from the sheer volume of coughing. No temperature at all but cold sweats. School don't expect her to self isolate and have asked that we use our discretion at sending her in . So probably Thursday/ Friday if she feels better. We can't get cv tests around here at all.

Xiaoxiong · 15/09/2020 21:47

We all had it last week, all better now thankfully but it is going round our school too. I have never googled so many times "definition of continuous cough" - not that there were any tests available even if the coughs had been continuous. So relieved the kids' school was pragmatic and had them back as soon as they were feeling better.

It does show that all the security theatre for covid isn't worth a damn if every single child and parent managed to catch a cold in the first week though. And our school is actually doing a great job on social distancing (they have the space, at least while the weather is nice), hand-washing and getting PPE for the teachers.

SauvignonBlanche · 15/09/2020 21:48

DD and I both have it, I’m not I’ll, don’t have any Covid symptoms but am wondering wether I’ll be Ok for work tomorrow 😷

MsPeachh · 15/09/2020 21:48

Yep, just coming to the end of it myself. I was hoping it would be eliminated over lockdown! 🤧 At least I’m reassured my immune system is still working after 5 months of it not having much to do at all.

DaphneFanshaw · 15/09/2020 21:49

One of my dts has been sent home from school with a temperature, cough and cold.
We are all self isolating again.
We haven’t managed to get a test yet, they’re all busy but hoping for tomorrow.
I am so busy at work, just had a big promotion, I can do some of my work from home but I will be behind by the time I go back.
DP is working from home anyway.
I have got a sniffle, our washing machine broke down and the living room window won’t open.
It’s all such a mess.

jmh740 · 15/09/2020 21:51

I work in a school been off since march back 2 weeks now and full of a cold, it seems the whole country is spreading it round

cautiouscovidity · 15/09/2020 21:52

Well actually, you don't know it's not COVID. You can't assume that he's caught what his kids had (although that's the most likely scenario). Any new episode of high temp / cough / change in sense of taste or smell requires the household to isolate, and those with symptoms to test.
Flummoxed2020 · 15/09/2020 21:54

I have a cold too - sneezes, cough, sore throat. Loads have returned to my office this week. I have already had Covid (positive antibody test, NHS worker) so I am praying it's just the common cold. All the DC are fine but I have the Calpol on standby.

Mumtumwobble · 15/09/2020 21:56

There are always colds at this time of year when kids go back to school. We always have a cold around now.

TakeMe2Insanity · 15/09/2020 21:56

DS (reception) completed a week of full time school, now him and DH are both with heavy colds!

LandMoor · 15/09/2020 21:57

Me too and my husband and DD weve worked all the way through and DD has always gone to nursery so I'm wondering if its because more children are now going back. Mainly a snotty nose and a slight cough so I dont think its covid.

cautiouscovidity · 15/09/2020 21:58

Lots of it around here too. Myself and DCs have been poorly.

It's quite worrying that it's spread so well in spite of the social distancing, extra hand washing etc. No hope for us if Covid hits the classroom!

Moondust001 · 15/09/2020 22:02

Your immune system is like all other parts of the body - if it doesn't get exercise it gets flabby and doesn't work as well as it should. Most peoples immune system has been lazing on the couch for five months! Perversely, that makes people more susceptible to Covid as well. Which may just explain why the figures are rising as well. Our immune systems have been lazing around having a long holiday.

SleepingStandingUp · 15/09/2020 22:02

It's September. So usual new cold season. Except the kids haven't licked each other for months and now they are, there's like months of cold germs who have been hiding in case Clovid19 kicked their ass.

Rhoobarbandraspberries · 15/09/2020 22:03

Shows how effective masks are though! Almost everyone I know has it...
