Literally everyone in my family now has a cold!! First DD got it, then me, then DH and now the rest of remaining family.

What is going on!

Sorry for random post. Dd got in bed with me and I made the mistake of leaving tablet unlocked when I nipped to the loo.

WeEE · 15/09/2020 22:41

My 3 year old started school last week. Came back after day 2 with a cold! The whole family got it.

She's been in school 2 days this week and has come home with a runny nose 🙈.

ALongHardWinter · 15/09/2020 22:41

It's because the kids have gone back to school. I remember when my Dd was of school age, every September she'd go down with a cold within a week of going back to school. And now my Dgd's the same. It does worry me actually, because every time my Dgd gets a cold, she gets a bit of a cough with it and a slight temperature. I can foresee that she'll be being sent home from school numerous times over the next few months and told to get tested.

peakotter · 15/09/2020 22:44

Nothing here.

We’re in Scotland. Schools have been back a month. We’ve all had it now.

ArabellaScott · 15/09/2020 22:44

Are you in England? Schools just went back?

Yes, we had the same thing here in Scotland mid August. As soon as the schools open the viruses have a big party.

cuparfull · 15/09/2020 22:49

@Flummoxed2020

I have a cold too - sneezes, cough, sore throat. Loads have returned to my office this week. I have already had Covid (positive antibody test, NHS worker) so I am praying it's just the common cold. All the DC are fine but I have the Calpol on standby.
Just out of interest, given you're an NHS worker, will they be asking you to test again? Just curious as ongoing Covid immunity is not proven.
Lollypop4 · 15/09/2020 22:50

Yes 2/ 6 Have it here 2/4 of my DC returned to school and within 3 days 1
dc had a cold and 1dc still at home has it, really bad cold it is too

Waxonwaxoff0 · 15/09/2020 22:54

DA and I have got a cold and we get them rarely. Luckily no coughing or temp so we haven't had to get tested but I'm snotting all over the place!

nocoolnamesleft · 15/09/2020 22:59

There's always a flurry of upper respiratory tract infections in September, when the schools go back. Presumably worse this year after a longer gap...

Spooktastix · 15/09/2020 22:59

3/4 of us have it, me and the 2 DC. DH, who has not been on the multivitamins and Sambucol, does not.

Brighterthansunflowers · 15/09/2020 22:59

It’s hardly rocket science is it?

Kids are back at school spreading all their germs, having been apart for six months so no immunity to each other’s bugs. Parents get it from their kids and spread it among their social bubble/workplace/down the pub. More adults catch and spread it.

Bluebell878275 · 15/09/2020 23:00

Yup, DH and I both snotty, sneezy, and feeling under the weather. No temperature, no cough, no breathing issues apart from blocked noses. Common Garden Colds.

Iconical · 15/09/2020 23:04

@Gancanny

Ever heard of Freshers Flu? It's like that but nationwide.
Freshers flu means a hangover
LittleBearPad · 15/09/2020 23:09

Freshers flu doesn’t mean a hangover.

auyi · 15/09/2020 23:11

Yes same here! I've had one, DP has one quite bad aswell as all his work mates and a few people I work with.

Yubaba · 15/09/2020 23:13

iconical no it doesn’t

PonfusedCarent · 15/09/2020 23:16

This is normal "Freshers flu" - bad cold when school/college/uni students and employees who've been off get stinking colds because it's easier to spread once all back in their settings. I'm pretty sure there's usually a spike again with illness after the October half term too which marks the start of the flu season.

I don't think it's anything new, except for the fact it complicates the pandemic and testing.

Ameliablue · 15/09/2020 23:16

It's September

GetThatHelmetOn · 15/09/2020 23:21

Freshers flu all the way, we even have it down in our calendars at work.

It is normal, happens every year, it is just that this year we have a hypersensitive antena for all things related to flu.

Gancanny · 15/09/2020 23:22

Freshers flu means a hangover

No it doesn't, Freshers Flu is the series of viral infections students get when they start university and suddenly get exposed to loads of new people at the same time as a complete change in routine and lifestyle. Tired + stressed + mingling = slightly lowered immune system and a germ party.

Gancanny · 15/09/2020 23:24

I'm pretty sure there's usually a spike again with illness after the October half term too which marks the start of the flu season.

Yup. From September to January my DC basically have a five month long perma-cold.

letsmakethishappen · 15/09/2020 23:25

Me included

BlackLetterDay · 15/09/2020 23:29

Same here, ds1 has given me his lurgy. Everyone else seems fine.

Estrellente · 15/09/2020 23:30

But but but but I don’t get it.
Where have the colds been hiding the last six months?

CorianderLord · 15/09/2020 23:30

Seems it's definitely schools spreading it then - nobody I know has even a sniffle. All have either no kids or grown up kids.

Or maybe it's just not got to us yet. Bugger.
