Children suddenly mixing with lots of other children

More workers returning to work place

Time of year and weather has been very changeable (not sure if that makes an actual difference)

Lots of people having symptoms that conveniently always them time off work

fullofhope100 · 15/09/2020 22:05

@DominaShantotto

Kids have been off for 6 months and gone back to school. Remember those endless months of snot when they first started in the first place? You're back there again.
Exactly.
maleficent53 · 15/09/2020 22:06

We have all hidden away now overwhelmed as we have no immunity to general bugs normal for the time of year

shinynewapple2020 · 15/09/2020 22:08

@HotPatootiebootie

Same here. My sister never gets sick but has been sleeping 9.30-2.30 between school runs and is back in bed at 7-8pm. My daughter got sent home from high school today and said there was 9 kids in reception waiting..... so many they had to tape A4 pieces of paper to the floor for the to stand far enough apart. Apparently more kids went home in the afternoon. The school know it's unlikely corona ( although they have had several positive cases in teaching staff in the last wk) as it's very mucousy/snotty and a wet phlegmy cough. My ds and dd are saying that there chest feels odd and thrust is sure but it's from the sheer volume of coughing. No temperature at all but cold sweats. School don't expect her to self isolate and have asked that we use our discretion at sending her in . So probably Thursday/ Friday if she feels better. We can't get cv tests around here at all.

Honestly ? Being that unwell your sister needs to sleep that long sounds like more than the. I'm mom cold . And a cold sweat , is a sign of temperature I thought (as I'm being hot and cold).
If you are unable to get tests I would keep everyone off for the rest of the week

KilljoysDutch · 15/09/2020 22:08

@Rhoobarbandraspberries

Shows how effective masks are though! Almost everyone I know has it...
But people are catching it from their children who aren't wearing masks in school and then they're not wearing masks at home either...
Ispini · 15/09/2020 22:08

It’s normal for this time of year. Schools back mean teachers and students are all snotty, coughing etc but this year we have the added problem of COVID.
I’m off school due to a throat infection that I get religiously for the past 20 years when I go back to school but I’ve been told to stay at home and isolate. I completely understand but it’s very frustrating, I was so happy to get back to school after not working for so long.
I just pray the government are going to try toget it right going forward!

MsAdoraBelleDearheartVonLipwig · 15/09/2020 22:09

Yep, been back at work about four days now in our primary school and had a shocking head cold. Headache, sore throat, runny nose, constantly sneezing. Lovely.

shinynewapple2020 · 15/09/2020 22:10

I'm mom cold ? The common cold !

lakeswimmer · 15/09/2020 22:11

Same here. Teen DD back at school for a week and full of cold. Seems like a quarter of her year group are off sick.

TokyoSushi · 15/09/2020 22:13

Same here, we all have it! Even DH, who is never ill!

BubblyBarbara · 15/09/2020 22:15

This means there has been some utter barstad hanging on to the cold all the way through lockdown only to unleash it again and to think we could have been free of it Angry

everythingisginandroses · 15/09/2020 22:17

@HotPatootiebootie exhaustion is a very common Covid symptom - it knocked me for six, nothing like a cold. I also agree with the poster above that clamminess and chills/cold sweat can be indicators too.

Heartofglass12345 · 15/09/2020 22:20

My son went back to school last Monday, by Thursday he had a cold and by Saturday me and my other son had caught it Hmm

fancyginglass · 15/09/2020 22:21

HotPatootiebootie I'm not trying to alarm you but I had those symptoms in March and at least 3 doctors assumed it was Covid, although I never received a test. I would err on the side of caution.

justanotherneighinparadise · 15/09/2020 22:22

Yep I’m ill, caught it from my son. I haven’t had s cold for years.

RealityExistsInTheHumanMind · 15/09/2020 22:24

@SleepingStandingUp

It's September. So usual new cold season. Except the kids haven't licked each other for months and now they are, there's like months of cold germs who have been hiding in case Clovid19 kicked their ass.

Gggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggghhhhhgggggggggggghhh

Mangofandangoo · 15/09/2020 22:27

This happens literally every September - doesn't it?!

Horehound · 15/09/2020 22:31

So is the cold actually just us not tolerating other people's germs then? Because I don't see how the cold can just spread like this when during lockdown the cold virus must've dwindled away. How has it managed to come back.
I also thought nits would disappear too!

My husband has been floored by this cold and that's not like him at all. Been 8 days now. And I can feel a sore throat coming in :(

Husband had a covid test which was negative...phew

Shizzlestix · 15/09/2020 22:32

Typical of the time of year. My boss is off, a child in my form, 2 people at the stables.

justasking111 · 15/09/2020 22:33

Grand kids went back to nursery, DS back at work. Now all three families are getting over this cold. Miserable I had sinus pain the other day. The cough is a nuisance and makes people nervous.

It is amazing how all the hand washing, mask wearing, etc. has not worked on the common cold. Have not seen the norovirus yet thank god.

echt · 15/09/2020 22:33

I don't mean this is in a hoity-toity way, but surely if people were social distancing and hand washing, there wouldn't be so many with colds?

It's hard to know with a non-notifiable disease, but in Australia 'flu cases plummeted this winter, although school and border closures undoubtedly affected this.

MarjorytheTrashHeap · 15/09/2020 22:35

Yes, virtually every kid in my KS1 class has gone down with a cold since we started back 2 weeks ago. The first one came in with it a few days after we started back and it's slowly made it's way round pretty much all of them, despite the constant hand sanitising and not sharing any equipment. My 2 DC also went down with colds a few days after going back to their school. Luckily it must be a strain I've already had as I haven't caught it from either school or home.

Sockmonster23 · 15/09/2020 22:36

Mangofandangoo

Yes it does, my son had fever and cough but this was 2 years age and yes it was September time as I remember schoolS only just started up Again and doctor said as the season changes The common cold, and wild viruses are rife. I I thought he had croup as cough sounded like a seal but doc said it wasn’t , just a virus at this time of year 🙄 Every year there is something going round i it’s never been different really but now it’s 2020.

Helloitsmemargaret · 15/09/2020 22:37

There appears to be a rhinovirus outbreak.
