How much do you end up spending on Botox and fillers per year

Jodiewa · 15/09/2020 21:12

I am 45 and beginning to look like hell. I know the price of Botox per thing but don’t know how much it ends up costing per year. How much do you end up sending year in year out? I am a Londoner. Thanks.

Twice a year and I spend €225 each time for 3 areas. I love it and I started about 8 years ago. I'm 40. I used to screw my face up really badly when I talked which gave me v early wrinkles, plus I love the sun!

SingingInTheShithouse · 16/09/2020 14:07

^Desperate performing seal
Where do you draw the line though, is it ok to dye your hair when you go grey?
Is it ok to use moisturiser so that your skin is more supple than it would be if you didn't^

Fair point. I do think this is okay, as it's about making the best of yourself as the age you are, though I like to see grey hair n women too, I don't have it myself as it doesn't suit my style & I have very little grey hair, & it's a boring colour these days, so I dye fir that reason, not to keep myself looking young.

I just think the more intrusive stuff with needles etc is a step too far & just buys into the hype that we as women shouldn't look over 35

Snoringferret · 16/09/2020 14:08

If you feel the need to conform with this, then your issues are internal, not external & that's what you need to work on, your confidence, not trying to stop time & risk looking like a clown

This is actually laughable.

For one I don't get Botox to look younger. I get Botox because I am short sighted and years of squinting has left me with a perpetual frown and Botox stops me looking like a miserable cow.
It's nice of you to be worried about my self confidence but there really is no need to be. I look and feel totally fine thank you.

I think you probably have no idea about Botox or who gets it or for what reasons, but I'm glad that something makes you feel so superior.

mollyminniemo · 16/09/2020 14:09

£850 on fillers once a year

Heffalooomia · 16/09/2020 14:09

@mumsthewurd

I embrace my inner crone. 47, fat and furious.

Fuck fillers!!!

Cool I'm very happy for you I'm 55 slim, spend money on my face and I embrace my inner 35-year old
Snoringferret · 16/09/2020 14:11

as it's about making the best of yourself as the age you are,

And that's exactly why most people get Botox. I don't think it even makes you look younger, just like you've had a good nights sleep.

The needles are tiny, it's more like getting acupuncture than anything else.

I think people are imagining it to be a much bigger deal than it is.
Getting my hair curled at the hairdressers hurts more.

Jesus, such misogyny.

Way to go sister!

Can cosmetic peels or anything else reduce developing forehead lines or is Botox the only way to lessen them?

lazylinguist · 16/09/2020 14:14

£0. For all the reasons mentioned upthread.

Maybe, but it’s not what the OP asked.

Since when are MN threads solely for the purpose of answering the OP's question? They are conversations, and are for the entertainment and interest of any MNer who chooses to read and contribute to them. They are not under the control of the OP. People are entitled to give any opinions they want, as long as they don't break the Talk guidelines. Anyone who doesn't realise that would be better off not starting any threads!

netsybetsy · 16/09/2020 14:14

Ignore all the ignorant comments, the naysayers 99% of the time have never had it. And a lot of them could use it, from in person conversations I have had. 😂

I wouldn't have it apart from medical reasons. It's just my choice, but I think it's great if other women want to use whatever is out there to help them. Some of them may well end up looking younger than me, all things being equal Smile

For myself l, I dye my grey and wear makeup but I wouldn't laugh at others and say "a lot of them could use it". It's a choice to use or not to use treatments of all kinds. Less of a choice if a woman would love to use something but it is simply out of her reach financially, in which case that would be mocking her for her financial status - not cool!

Totally agree! Thanks to a tangent I have learned about Botox for teeth grinding which I am now very interested in.

@TheoneandObi

Ok I was offered Botox by my dentist when I told him my son was getting married and (bc he's a semi mate) he said ooooo wanna get some Botox for the pics? I politely declined but did have a chat about it. He admitted some people 'overdo it'. Including, incredibly some of his nurses. And yes, it is apparent. I'm only a little shocked that he's continuing to do it for them if even he thinks it's overdone! So it does happen; people do get sucked into having work done which tips over the young really can't tell' line. But like I say, MN is full of very very classy people who only get the appropriate amounts done.
That's interesting. I wonder if he would offer it to a man whose son was getting married?
Snoringferret · 16/09/2020 14:18

Can cosmetic peels or anything else reduce developing forehead lines or is Botox the only way to lessen them?

Cosmetic peels can help rejuvenate the skin but Botox is the only guaranteed way to stop lines from developing more.
I've had a peel and it hurt way more than Botox.
If you're going to pay for a peel you may as well do Botox.

I think the experience of getting Botox is a bit like getting your eyebrows waxed. It pinches for a second and then it's fine, you have a slight red mark that goes away in an hour. The end.

Snoringferret · 16/09/2020 14:18

That's interesting. I wonder if he would offer it to a man whose son was getting married?

Possibly. Lots of men get it done and he's trying to sell his services.

Somehow I suspect that's not what would happen
Snoringferret · 16/09/2020 14:21

Suspect all you like. I think you might be surprised how many men get Botox though

Insaneinthemembury · 16/09/2020 14:22

I spend £0 because I cant afford it. You'll all look amazing whilst I'm the hagard one in the corner!! Can't we just all agree to stop?!

Anyone know of a website where you can see before and flyers of Botox / fillers?
I would love to see the difference as I can't believe it's worth in the region of £700 pa for so many women.

SingingInTheShithouse · 16/09/2020 14:27

The over done Botox comments resonates with me & might go some way to explain my attitude to it.

I don't actually know anyone who has had it done were it isn't really bloody obvious & yet they go back for more & IMHO end up ruining their faces. In all of those I can think of & it's a lot, they looked far better without as they were already beautiful women of their ages & now look manikin like & not themselves

Snoringferret · 16/09/2020 14:28

www.graziadaily.co.uk/amp/life/health-fitness/botox-for-men/

According to research by the bbc 50% of men aged 18-30 'would consider' having Botox or fillers.

It's far more common than you think.

Snoringferret · 16/09/2020 14:30

singing

I would be willing to bet that you do know women who have it you just don't know they've had it because you can't tell and they haven't told you.

Especially if you talk about it like this in real life.

Like I say no one in real life knows I've had it except my husband and my sister.

DappledThings · 16/09/2020 14:34

But don't you think it's worth saying that these things are not compulsory or even that common?

I'm sure the OP doesn't 'look like hell' just a normal 45 year old woman, and if you asked the question to a group of men, almost none of them would have it.

So it's doing women a disservice to not remind them that this is something that they don't 'have' to do.

All of this. I can't imagine ever spending a penny on this. I'm 41. Do I "look like hell"? I have no idea, don't know what anyone's definition of that is. I have a good few lines I suppose. No idea if it's more or less than average, have no desire to find out.

SingingInTheShithouse · 16/09/2020 14:35

Of course I don't say it to them in real life. It's their choice, not mine & I wouldn't want to hurt them but telling them they looked better before emptying purses, that's not who I am & it's discussed openly in several friendship groups, so yes, I do know.

From that, I just don't think it looks as natural as people presume it does.
