The word 'cunt'

Theroadtomandalay · 15/09/2020 17:35

Why is it, 'cunt' is an accepted word to use when calling other people names?

I know that is not 'nice' to do so, but it seems like a 'non frowned upon' term to use in informal settings if someone is really really horrible.

I really don't get it! Why use a (very important) part of the female anatomy to insult someone.

For me it seems like the ultimate way to demean a woman's body, and I am so surprised, when other women use that word.
However, I am not from an english speaking country, so perhaps I am missing something- please enlighten me.

This is the opposite to any argument I've ever heard about it. Why is it more offensive than 'dick' or 'cock' or 'knob'?

TopBitchoftheWitches · 15/09/2020 17:37

You take the word back as a woman and happily use it as an insult. Mainly to mysiognists.

ZoeTurtle · 15/09/2020 17:38

Language evolves, meanings change. Cunt in that context means "a despicable person" to many, not "a vagina." HTH.

CitizenFame · 15/09/2020 17:38

It’s not an “acceptable” word to use in informal settings at all

ANoTail · 15/09/2020 17:40

Like twat?
Or, under the male anatomy
Dick, prick, knobhead. All of which are generally used far more casually than cunt ever is?

Well, it is not that different, I suppose. I guess my perspective is from the female side. Why would you as a woman call a other person a name that demeans your own body?

Do none of the swearwords in your country involve body parts?

Because it's the only word appropriate for my ex.

BubblyBarbara · 15/09/2020 17:42

But IS it really? Who ever actually uses the word to describe their vagina? Men call their bits dick cock knob etc which is fine. But no woman with any sense calls her bits a c u know what. Let’s cast it off as a crude swear word and stop pretending it means vagina at all.

LuluBellaBlue · 15/09/2020 17:42

Cunt derives from the word meaning goddess! Grin

TopBitchoftheWitches · 15/09/2020 17:42

Yes it is.

22Giraffes · 15/09/2020 17:42

The word doesn't offend me at all, it's no worse than any other swear word or insult, I never understand why it's deemed the worst one. As others have said, knob and dickehad are commonly used, I use them myself about people of both genders Grin

Runningjump · 15/09/2020 17:43

Why is it worse than twat?

SecretNutellaFix · 15/09/2020 17:44

Why do you think it demeans women?

I use it in much the same way I would use ball bag, cock, knob, dickhead, massive dick, areshole, butthead etc.

While penises, anuses and vaginas / vulvae are important body parts, I would not like to embody any one of them.

I sometimes call people cunt rags, meaning santoro, if I really don't like them. That's a good one if you want to get truly offensive without hurting your vagina's feelings.

PS: I would never refer to my vagina as a cunt. If anyone else referred to my vagina as "your cunt", I'd probably be Hmm.

Yarboosucks · 15/09/2020 17:46

For me it is the sound of the word, the intent behind the use of the word and the mouth that the word comes out of that I don't like.

daisychain1620 · 15/09/2020 17:46

Well my vagina birthed two big bruisers, had an episiotomy, bleeds like billio very month and has done for years and enjoys a vigorous pounding quite regularly and is still in pretty good shape. Vaginas are tough and resilient, vaginas are cunts- call me a cunt any day!

StarchyStanley · 15/09/2020 17:46

Sanpro*

StarchyStanley · 15/09/2020 17:48

Another evocative and offensive term, involving only male body parts, if you prefer is "ball root". It's pretty offensive!

FedUpSomeMore · 15/09/2020 17:48

Do you feel the same about knob, dick, arse, fanny, twat and tit as insults in informal settings?

I call my husband a lucky cunt everyday because he's married to me. 😂

Todaywewilldobetter · 15/09/2020 17:48

It's viewed as a fairly hard core swear but it's just a word. Language evolves.
I'm pretty quick to find the "but feminism" in a conversation but I can't get worked up about that.
Twat, bollocks, cock, knob, prick. Cunt is quite satisfying when you rarely use it!

We have those words as well-but almost only concerning the female anatomy and used as the ultimate insult- almost always used by men towards women.

Is it acceptable? I don't find it acceptable and would never use the word. I know someone in real life who uses it frequently and, as nice as they are generally, I now just avoid him as much as possible because I just can't bear to hear the word.

MrsSugar · 15/09/2020 17:48

I’m from Glasgow. I hear it constantly. Any cunt got a lighter? There’s some cunt on the phone for you? He’s a cheeky cunt. He’s a good cunt Blush awful really but I don’t bat an eyelid about the word although I don’t use it much
