So if poor people want to meet their extended families could they just club together to hire some land and claim they are chasing foxes followed by a nice pub lunch after? Would they be fined?

I never said either was humane I was pointing out that it doesn't include fox hunting.

user1471565182 · 15/09/2020 00:33

This is also after it came out they had been giving Covid bailout money to fox hunters. They know nobody will say anything.

Don't be abtuse

Deer populations need to be kept in check.

I have killed animals and eaten them. Have you?

user1471565182 · 15/09/2020 00:40

Whole fucking swathes of our country and woodland have been given over to these morons for the exclusive use of growing nasty lifeless pinewoods to inbreed pheasants stupid enough to be able to shoot in. Its a disgrace.

Need to be kept in check by a crowd who consider hunting a day out? Also, who decides where to draw the line?
No, I have never killed an animal. Was that going to be your trick to somehow muddle the discussion?

Tavannach · 15/09/2020 00:43

So, drifting away from the boys' own sports for a moment, dancing and swimming? Are they exempt?

Totickleamockingbird · 15/09/2020 00:44

I wasn’t talking about fox hunting in the context of this newspaper article either. I was saying that fox hunting and this crowd is very closely associated.
Purpledaisychain · 15/09/2020 00:55

To be expected from a bunch of bloodthirsty conservatives. Angry AngryAngry

Purpledaisychain · 15/09/2020 01:02

@VenividiWeeWee

I could meet up with 10 friends and we could all stand 7 metres apart but that would still be classed as breaking the law.
Hunting for food or culling to avoid overpopulation is completely different to trophy hunting or hunting for 'sport'. The 'sport' that the conservative party is so fond of is abhorrent and should have died out in the dark ages.

@01:03TheHighestSardine

I've never wished so much for a "like" button to be added to this platform. Well said.

MiddlesexGirl · 15/09/2020 01:11

You do have to wonder why many of those sports are exempt, as so many involve close contact.

The governing bodies of each of the sports will have had guidelines approved for the safe conduct of their sport. The member organisations will be expected to abide by these guidelines. That's why ad hoc arrangements aren't allowed.

Tavannach · 15/09/2020 02:05

@TheHighestSardine Thanks for that.

I lifted this from another thread. It's a picture of a notorious sick fuck, aka our glorious leader.

The state of that. Turd of turd hall.

littlemsattitude · 15/09/2020 04:05

@Ijustdontcare

Oh and here is the full list from the Government of which sports are included:
Angling
Baseball / Softball
Basketball
Canoeing / Kayaking
Caving
Climbing
Curling
Cricket
Dodgeball
Dragon Boat Racing
Equestrian
Floorball
Football
Gaelic Sports
Goalball
Hockey
Hunting - some forms
Ice Hockey
Lacrosse
Netball
Octopush
Polo
Roller Sports
Rowing
Rugby League
Rugby Union
Rounders
Sailing/Yachting
Shooting (including hunting and paintball that requires a shotgun or firearms certificate license)
Ultimate Frisbee
Volleyball</div></div>

No tennis ? Given that it's one of the most socially distanced sports that's ridiculous

littlemsattitude · 15/09/2020 04:10

Wildfowl species may not be shot on Sunday or Christmas Day.

Of course they can't, you need them ready for the dinner table in time for the Sunday roast.

BarbaraofSeville · 15/09/2020 04:20

That list also excludes swimming and scuba diving, which are still allowed, I've seen statements from the British sub aqua club and the open water swimming association confirming this.

Also cycling of various forms and skateboarding, unless they're included in 'roller sports'.

BarbaraofSeville · 15/09/2020 04:27

The list is a little misleading without the footnote about where associations have issued a statement. I assume the lawn tennis association has issued a statement about how to play tennis safely.

It's also useful to read section 3.19 of the same document about hobby clubs and other leisure activities. The deciding factor is whether groups of more than 6 may mingle.

Yes, there is lta guidance for clubs.
ameliajoan · 15/09/2020 04:44

YABU with a misleading headline as though hunting and shooting are exempt specifically when that’s simply not the case.

This isn’t a class issue at all. There’s an entire list of sports still allowable for various reasons.

galgaf12 · 15/09/2020 04:56

The Guardian twisting things - no surprise.

Mumsnetters falling for it - no surprise

Florin · 15/09/2020 05:20

This is a very misleading headline as organised sport is allowed, it is not just shooting.
For those who don’t agree and eat meat have you considered how you get your chicken? Personally I would much prefer to eat a bird that has flown free for most of it’s life and then killed quickly with one shot. In comparison a lot of chickens are raised in horrendous conditions and then how they process them is really horrific. Just because you don’t see the process when you buy your neatly packaged chicken from the supermarket/butcher doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen or make it ok. Personally we choose to eat mainly game in the season as it’s good value, healthy and delicious. Giving up meat is not something I am prepared to do although I consider carefully where my meat comes from and I enjoy plenty of vegetarian and vegan meals too.

Aridane · 15/09/2020 05:35

Lockheart I probably put as much consideration into my post as the Government put into the '6 people' rule.

I doubt it

Tellmetruth4 · 15/09/2020 06:47

Hunting and shooting animals are not sports. I don’t care if the arseholes who enjoy killing things are rich and powerful enough to lobby for their sickness to be classified as a sport. They aren’t sports.

A big chunk of the reason why people take part in these ‘sports’ is for the socialisation which follows. There is no way they will shoot Grouse then all get in their cars and go home. They will all go to have lunch on the estate or a local country pub. That’s a massive part of the day. There will be far more than 6 of them too.

Some hunts have up to 200 people attending. They will not all stand 1 metre apart and go straight home. Many enjoy the hunt for the ‘partying’ according to this article in Tatler.

www.tatler.com/gallery/british-hunting-life-uk

Festival owners should lobby for dancing to music over 120BPM to be classified as a sport. It would make more sense than shooting birds out of the sky for fun so you can drink ale and sloe gin with your mates after.
