Whether you agree with them or not... do you?

@BogRollBOGOF

I feel clumsy Then I feel hot Then I pant Then I panic Then I strip any superflous layers of clothes Then I'm gasping and the fucking thing comes off my face. 45 seconds was all took last time to trigger.

I am not a dick.

I can't lip read people in them, and talking is hard to hear and do. I can't look mask wearers in the face and when I'm in a masky place I look down away from face level. They make social distancing harder because there is too much to process to cope with gauging space.

I can not wait for the bastard grimy things to be consigned to history.

The very reasons why people shouldn’t judge. You can’t tell who is exempt and not so don’t be the person who makes it difficult for none mask wearers who are.
Redact · 11/09/2020 22:45

No not at all but I would be if I didn't wear one

LouisBalfour · 11/09/2020 22:46

I saw a woman today, she was outside a shop smoking a fag with a fabric mask on her chin. She put the mask on after stubbing out the fag (on the pavement 🙄)and before entering the shop. I was fixated on how disgusting that mask must smell.

PrincessandthePeach · 11/09/2020 22:51

Not anymore, I did at first but I have gotten used to it.
In fact, I had lost my mask today and had to go into a shop without one to get a new one and I felt so weird. Like of felt like I was naked lol.

ThirdTimeUnlucky · 11/09/2020 22:55

I've tried different ones and I especially look like a dick in all of them as they ride up my face and into my eyes. Seriously. Don't know what I'm doing wrong, lol.
Plus I can't hear people/lip read any more and I have to be extra careful taking a mask off as they tangle up with my hearing aids!

They will never be consigned to history.
See how the overwhelming majority on here not only obey by wearing them but have actively welcomed them.

'I feel safe with one on' - well, you still will after the pandemic is over
'I feel naked without one' - see: normal already, not wearing one = abnormal, how hard a habit will it be to reverse? And why would we reverse it when people are so keen on them?
'It's polite to wear them and protects others' - it still will afterwards, from colds, flu, bad breath etc etc

Despite the fact they are dehumanising, subjugating, unnatural and germy, the genie is out of the bottle Sad

cbt944 · 11/09/2020 23:55

Yes, I feel like a total dick. And I've been wearing one since March, so feeling like a total dick since March. The days the glasses don't steam up are better. A dick with foggy glasses is too much. At least all the maskless people staring at me since March are less focused now. So I am more of a carefree dick these days, so that's something.

wizzywig · 11/09/2020 23:57

Yes i do. Like a like twat. I dont care if everyones wearing one. I still feel like a tit.

SpunBodgeSquarepants · 11/09/2020 23:57

No I have terrible pregnancy-induced acne on my chin at the moment so I'm glad of them.

And that is precisely why they're pretty much pointless, a placebo to give people the illusion of safety, hence why they have pounced on it. Plenty of people on one thread have never washed theirs, still more and giving the two fingered salute to the environment and throwing out multiple disposable ones or washing every one of them on 60 after one use (and changing them several times a day) then ironing them.

Some people do like to make a mountain out of a mole hill and some people really love a conspiracy. This nonsense about how we should all be careful what we wish for, they're testing us to subjugate us further etc. etc. jesus. It's really not that deep. The scientists say it reduces the spread and it's a complete piece of piss for me to wear and doesn't affect me negatively in the slightest, so I wear it. When the pandemic is over, I'll stop wearing it. Simple.

VestroPrincipiDivino · 12/09/2020 00:05

Why? Is it like a vanity/self-esteem thing?

DeliciouslyFemale · 12/09/2020 00:06

Yup, it’s obviously all a conspiracy. The governments across the are conspiring to force us to cover our faces in public. I’m sure they’re very happy that we are no longer easily recognisable when we’re out and about. This would be the same authorities that put all the camera up, so they could spy on us in public. Hmm

W00t · 12/09/2020 00:08

Subjugating? Who on earth am I subjugated by?
Unnatural? What, you mean like the rest of my clothes that I wasn't actually born in?
Dehumanising? How, really, just how is wearing a few square inches of fabric across my mouth and nostrils dehumanising? I'm still human, still look and act like a human.

Germy I'll give you- that's the point of masks, to catch germs either in or out.

No it's a how can anyone think this is any way to live thing.
CatRamsey · 12/09/2020 00:09

I do.

And I end up touching my face more than I usually would because its so irritable and I suffer with tics that are worsened when wearing a mask. It either falls off my nose or slides up and covers my eyes when I look down.

alliejay81 · 12/09/2020 00:09

@Hendalle

No. But it has made me realize how often I smile at people - all the time.. and I feel like a bit of a dick for that especially when I’m wearing sunglasses and my entire face is covered. I feel like a complete loon!
This is me too!!! An older lady smiled at me wearing one today and I could tell she was smiling which makes me feel better about smiling like a smiley thing whilst wearing one!
HowFastIsTooFast · 12/09/2020 00:12

Not even a tiny bit.

Actually there’s arguments from scientist and doctors that it doesn’t reduce the spread. The government for months said that science shows it doesn’t reduce the spread even on the government website it says it may help and that social distancing and hand washing still must be followed. It also gives clear indications of how the masks should be handled which people don’t do.
PrettyLittleBrownEyedMe · 12/09/2020 00:17

@W00t of course they're unnatural! It's not natural to have cloth impeding the natural flow of your breath and/or the sense of breathing freely, or for others not to be able to read your expression or recognise you easily. That's why the vast majority of cultures across the world and through history haven't habitually worn them. It's not comparable to clothes!

VestroPrincipiDivino · 12/09/2020 00:19

From what I've read, more say it does than say it doesn't. And as I said, it is 0 effort or issue for me to wear one anyway.

Notonthestairs · 12/09/2020 00:19

Nope. I don't enjoy it but don't find it anything more than inconvenient.

PrettyLittleBrownEyedMe · 12/09/2020 00:24

Also I don't get the logic in some situations. I believe they are generally a placebo anyhow, as described by @Batshitbeautycosmeticsltd

But take the example of a driving lesson. Instructor and learner both in masks in the car. What is the mechanism here? They are in a confine space and both still breathing! Any virus has to go somewhere...are they both breathing it all back in? Is that good for them? Does it all literally catch in the fabric of the mask? In which case we ought to be doing a whole lot more of identifying them as a biohazard...or does the virus still get through, in which case why are they bothering to wear them?
Can someone explain this who DOESN'T think it's just a placebo?

Herewefall · 12/09/2020 00:31

Yes but I’d feel like a rude dick not wearing one.

ClinkyMonkey · 12/09/2020 00:35

I am happy to wear a mask, but yes I do feel like a dick because my glasses keep misting up even though I've tried all the tricks. I end up waving my hands about the place, as I go to rub the glasses, then remember that I shouldn't touch my face. Also, I seem to actively inhale great mouthfuls of fabric when wearing a pleated mask.

And I don't understand a word people are saying when THEY have masks on. I've never been great on the phone and now I'm discovering that it's because I grasp a lot of what people are saying by watching their mouths. I seem to need to hear and see at the same time for the information to compute. So I feel like a dick when other people are wearing masks, but obviously only if they're trying to communicate with me!
