To want to compare toilet dreams?

Gross, perhaps, but it might make us feel better to know we're not alone. It seems (from another thread) a few of us suffer from 'the toilet dream'. I didn't know other people had them!

Mine are variations on a theme; overflowing toilet, no door, glass door, sitting on a velvet chair instead of a toilet.... and they're frequent, like once a week or so!

Anyone else?

(Not a poo troll!)

Yeah I have these a lot. Usually I'm in a big building and I desperately need a poo so I run from room to room (I can't explain why they all have toilets in) to find somewhere to go. One has someone in there, the other is completely out in the open, the other has no lock and people keep coming in and out, one is dirty, one is full of wee, another is filthy, one has poo in...
IRL I did have coprophobia bit still have some leftover fears. And I hate public toilets

BertieBotts · 11/09/2020 11:02

It just means you need a wee but your brain knows you can't wee where you are so it interprets it in relation to the dream.

namechanger0989 · 11/09/2020 11:06

I get them often, usually because I need a wee but like pp said your body knows you can't go in bed. I sometimes find that I do 'wet myself' a tiny bit before I wake up!

Fruitbowlflowers · 11/09/2020 11:12

I have these and tend to believe they happen when I’m feeling vulnerable. Mine focus on being seen and exposed and being desperate and toilet too dirty.
I analyse them as at times I feel completely exposed with my vulnerability and I have a need that is not met. I think in terms of my not being able to meet my needs and how shameful it can feel, oh and I often get them when my boundaries are being pushed by someone/thing.
Thinking about it not had one for awhile. I also get the dream where I’m trying to climb to the top of a really steep hill and keep sliding down.

Fruitbowlflowers · 11/09/2020 11:12

I will say I’m up every night for a wee and these dreams don’t happen every night.

HMSSophie · 11/09/2020 11:13

Oh god yes this is a real "theme" for my dreams. And no it isn't that I need a pee. It's that toilets hold huge symbolism imo. "I can't deal with this shit", "it's all shit": links to control, shame, what's public and private, boundaries, a veritable
Feast for the unconscious mind.

I dream of overflowing toilets, shitting in boxes and having to find a toilet to put it in. All kinds of crap really :)

SerenDippitty · 11/09/2020 11:15

My toilet dreams focus on the floors being filthy with pools of urine and poo I’m trying not to step in and toilets not flushed.

BigBlondeBimbo · 11/09/2020 11:17

Only have these when I actually need a wee IRL! Keep dreaming that I'm on a night out or similar, queueing for the loo.

why2020 · 11/09/2020 11:18

I have on occasion 'found' a toilet, started to go and then woken up Blush

BogRollBOGOF · 11/09/2020 11:20

Leaky toilets or lack of privacy.
It's a theme that comes up relatively frequently.

My other recurring theme is the alternative cuddly toy (the spare duplicate for a child's favourite). I know the difference because it's worn differently Grin
I've had that one all the way since childhood.

BigBlondeBimbo · 11/09/2020 11:21

@why2020

That is my fear! One day I won't wake up when I get to the front of the queue 😱!
Coriandersucks · 11/09/2020 11:23

Yes! Usually involves running around dirty, abandoned buildings looking for a loo then on finding one (or often lots in one area) the door is usually broken but I have to go anyway.

Rarely wake needing the loo though so I’m not convinced it’s always about that.

Kakiweewee · 11/09/2020 11:28

I dream that I can't control my flow and get it into the toilet, very embarrassing. Also doors that won't lock, or no partitions between toilets, or people looking over the top.

And there's one toilet that I dream about from a flat I lived in twenty odd years ago that always floods in my dream. Something to do with the sink, but it's scary because I'm stuck in the loo in the middle of the night and it's filling with water.

ElizabethMainwaring · 11/09/2020 11:32

Mine too. Blocks of filthy toilets, like school toilets. Horrible
TurkeyTrot · 11/09/2020 11:34

Mine often takes the format that people are sitting round a table, like a dinner party or a work meeting. Everyone is sitting on a normal chair but I am somehow sitting on a toilet. The anxiety is around trying to get my pants back up without anyone noticing.....

I guess it's related to feeling exposed more than needing a wee.

Tarantallegra · 11/09/2020 11:38

Oh all the time when I need the loo but my brain knows I can't go. Less so since being pregnant as I tend to just wake up and have to go all bloody night!

marriednotdead · 11/09/2020 11:38

Oh wow, it's not just me! My family think I'm bonkers when I mention my toilet dreams, they're usually about once or twice a month.

Often involve unsanitary places, multiple overflowing loos, missing doors, no privacy... think Trainspotting Envy

GreenPlum · 11/09/2020 11:40

These two theories make a lot of sense; either you need a wee in real life, or you are feeling vulnerable or exposed.

I often do need a wee in the night so I think that's probably responsible for 80% of them. I don't do much self analysis, but I'd accept that the other 20% is due to deep even unacknowledged feelings of shame, low esteem or fear of people seeing the real me, or the insecurities that I hide.

OP posts:
Dugsbollox · 11/09/2020 11:41

These are really horrible dreams, I rarely get them, but the ones I do it tends to be where I start to go and then realise everyone can see me. The partitions are too low (like the size of infant school loos!) Or there's a glass door/no door.

Stannisbaratheonsboxofmatches · 11/09/2020 11:45

Often I dream I can’t find a toilet, or find one and as others have said it has no door, or it’s in the men’s/ the middle of an open space where everyone can see, or they’re all out of order or something. The not having a door or any privacy is a really common one though.

Stannisbaratheonsboxofmatches · 11/09/2020 11:45

I almost never wake for a wee though, and I never wet myself!

Floralbean · 11/09/2020 11:48

Yes I do, usually just before I need to wake up anyway so I guess it's sort of handy. It's always a similar thing, needing to find a toilet but either finding unsuitable ones or a huge queue, and usually I am rushing about in my dream, ie popping to the loo before an appointment and having the stress of running around looking for one as well. It's clever really, and I suppose for most of us it's something we see and use everyday, so even if you don't need a week bound to pop up sometimes.

Stannisbaratheonsboxofmatches · 11/09/2020 11:49

Googled it!

Toilets in dreams indicate that we need some type of privacy in order to understand our emotions. The toilet dream can also signify that you feel you are being observed by others, if however, you are going to the toilet in a dream you can suggest that you are going to move forward in life in a different direction.

Or

A dream about a dirty toilet indicates toxic thoughts, emotions, beliefs, judgments or relationships. To see a dirty bathroom, full or even back-flooded toilets implies that one needs to try to sort out problems in life. ..This dream suggests there are feelings or people in waking life that one needs to get rid of.

Both make sense as I need to get rid of my ex out of my life who keeps causing drama with the children, also meaning I have less privacy from him because of said drama... He lives too close by for one thing!

But what if it's just because you need a wee IRL 🤔?
Elledouble · 11/09/2020 11:53

I get a lot of these! Dirty toilets, no doors, occasionally open the door and it’s a shower...
