AIBU to suggest this is a good idea permanently for under 16's? they should not be not out roaming free in the evenings. This could help curb anti social behaviour and even save lives

Does anyone need to be out after 11pm?

Batshitbeautycosmeticsltd · 10/09/2020 20:15

FFS. Bloody sick of demonising young people.

Nanalisa60 · 10/09/2020 20:16

Yes I would love a curfew, in fact I can’t wait for a police state!! I think by 1st December my wishes might come true.

Now what did my mother use to say be careful what you wish for!!

NO ITS NOT A GOOD IDEAR - we are losing more and more of our freedoms every day!! Can’t believe people are just sleep walking into being completely controlled by our governments.

Gurufloof · 10/09/2020 20:16

Of course not, who would work shifts for the fun of it?
Who would serve in bars for kicks
Convenience stores could easy shut at 10, in fact I'm sure my nearest little tesco does no business after about 9pm. Sod em, shut em all.

FudgeBrownie2019 · 10/09/2020 20:18

@RunningFromInsanity

Does anyone need to be out after 11pm?
People working shifts People visiting friends People visiting relatives People driving to/from emergencies People who've been out for a meal People who've been to pubs/nightclubs People who drive taxis People going on holiday People who prefer to do their shopping late at night People who walk their dogs late because their dogs are rascals

I'm going to say a firm yes, people sometimes do need to be out after 11pm.

Yeah, they should all be in bed getting beauty sleep for church Hmm.
thatplaceinjordan · 10/09/2020 20:24

I do Scouts with 10-18 year olds
So you think we shouldn't be able to do night hikes and overnight camps with night games etc?

Feellikedancingyeah · 10/09/2020 20:26

I am not talking about organised activities. This is about young people being out late with no purpose

I’m a lecturer and one of my students (male, 19) worked as a “picker” for a supermarket during lockdown. He was stopped driving there every night, for a 4am start, and eventually got a letter from the supermarket to show the police. I wonder if that would have happened to a person in their eg 50s?

This is about your demonising an entire group of people based solely on their age and wanting to criminalise their being bloody outdoors. Thankfully we don't live in a draconian police state like that.
Iwantacookie · 10/09/2020 20:31

My 15 year old is out right now. She has a curfew off me why would she need another? Confused

No purpose other than they want to. Last time I checked we were still a free country, although give it a few months......

But your idea of no purpose and mine could be completely different

Not 50 but my dp works for a logistics firm and had one, all members of the company who were travelling into work did (during lockdown)
Namechangeme87 · 10/09/2020 20:39

I was going to write a sarcastic comment but no actually I do understand what you are saying , some ( some being the word ) teenagers will roam about n get up to no good sometimes ( I was one of them at times) but no I don’t think we should be policing people like this . Still - we are heading that way anyway

SBTLove · 10/09/2020 20:39

What time do you suggest?
My DD15 is out just now for a walk with 2 friends, they do this after finishing homework, she’ll be in by 10.
What about kids who are out because that’s better than being at home; neglectful, abusive homes??

donnadenise · 10/09/2020 20:41

When you want to go swimming at 9pm you'd be glad my 17 year old DD and 18 year old DS work as life guards, they could be saving your life at a time you want them home watching television Biscuit

Excuse me, but I cannot dance before then! Somehow the ability to dance comes in after 11. I am a great dancer about midnight
EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 10/09/2020 20:43

Not a bad idea
but there is no witching hour - I was in the park a few weeks ago mid-afternoon - 3pm-ish and a feral youth suddenly started swinging a 12 inch blade around.
About 12 inches - I departed pretty swiftly & called the police.

ToastyCrumpet · 10/09/2020 20:43

Plenty of teenagers don’t go in for ASB. They’re entitled to a social life.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 10/09/2020 20:43

Oh no! I quoted wring post! Apologies. It keeps jumping with ads... That was in reply to the no one needs to be out after 11

Bloody hell. Is this where we’re heading?

No, it’s not a good idea. Have a little read of the Human Rights Act.
