Just a bit of fun. I always end up buying similar food items in my weekly shop. Occasionally I’ll try something new and it’s really nice and I’ll continue to buy it. For example last week I bought some balsamic chutney from Morrison’s- it was so good I’ve added it to most sandwich fillings yum 😋

Have you bought anything new recently which you’ve been really impressed with?

So jealous of everyone having parathas, I’ve gone gluten free 😭

tallpoppies · 12/09/2020 15:36

These - literally the best jam tart you will ever eat! Tiny though, a box does not last long

I’ve thought of a couple more from Waitrose. Frozen Rosti - sort of grown up potato waffles. Chai latte ice lollies - they are made with coconut milk. Also, Tony’s Chocolonely but only the milk chocolate ones - I was disappointed with the dark chocolate pretzel one.

Waitrose also sell these individually packed for lunch boxes.

Second the Morrisons white chocolate milk - tastes like melted McDonald's vanilla milk shake - and makes THE MOST AMAZING hot chocolate.

I have also added loads to my shopping list.

YES!

I discovered these a fortnight ago and have become seriously addicted.

They are very tiny, but sooo delicious that they almost make you cry tears of pure, unadulterated joy.

Scout2016 · 12/09/2020 17:51

Aldi's organic prosecco £7.99. I don't normally like prosecco but it's lovely. Small bubbles I think but I'm no Jilly Goolden. Pleasing bottle shape too.

Couldn't find pizza bases in Aldi fridge but but just tried their roll your own bases. Like ready made pastry but a pizza base. 99p each, success. Probably be discontinued next week.

Are you the one who screamed at the Sistine Chapel?

BreconBeBuggered · 12/09/2020 18:31

I'm a bugger for adding sriracha sauce to anything that's not actually cake, and I have to say the M & S version is a cut above all the others I've tried. I also like sweet soy sauce and vegetarian/vegan fish sauce to add another layer of flavour to stir fry etc. I got mine in Waitrose, but the sweet soy at least can be found in Chinese supermarkets.

BigSpringy · 12/09/2020 18:36

Proper Nutty Smunchy Peanut Butter is, by far, the nicest peanut butter I have ever, ever eaten. And I've eaten a lot.

Ingredients are just peanuts and a bit of salt.

It's soooooo good.

Leontine · 12/09/2020 18:49

I went mad for that Marmite peanut butter.

Eminybob · 12/09/2020 18:55

I did enjoy it but it’s not marmitey enough. I prefer to mix my own Grin

Sainsbury sell some lovely chewy biscuits which are Dutch, I think. I always say I won’t buy them, but always do.

On the subject of food does anyone know where I can get lamb burgers. Aldi used to sell them.

FallonsTeaRoom · 12/09/2020 19:17

My shopping list has extended by quite a lot from this thread! And I'm only up to page 6! Grin

IndigoHexagon · 12/09/2020 19:21

Picked up some Peanut Punch from Tesco last night after reading about it in this thread. omg it’s so tasty!!! Will definitely be buying it again!

PablosHoney · 12/09/2020 19:29

Peach juice/nectar from Sainsbury’s 😋

Graphista · 12/09/2020 19:58

I’m really bad for getting almost exactly the same shopping every week!

Yet I know this is not good either nutritionally, mentally or financially as I forget to check on special offers etc (housebound and shop online)

Recently treated myself to a new blender and I’m TRYING to be a bit more adventurous getting some smoothie stuff and considering trying some new soup recipes. Plus I’ve not made fresh pasta sauce since last blender died so looking forward to that - if anyone has any recipes/tips I’m all ears! I really need to try all the new veggie stuff too, I’m still buying Linda McCartney original sausages, quorn frozen mince and fillets and chicken style pieces...stuck in a veggie time warp! So will be noting the veggie suggestions especially

So this thread could be very motivating...

I’m adding to my shopping list (threads like this cost me a fortune!)

Crispy onions
Bagels (not had for ages)
Note to browse world foods section again
Polish cherry Jaffa cakes if I can get em again not had in ages - ok my Tesco don’t have em but mcvities pineapple flavour? Ooh
Linda McCartney Bao buns - are these frozen? I only have a small freezer also how spicy?
Tesco bruschetta mixes - pate substitute? Ok to eat cold?

My own personal favourites (so many are “world foods” section)

Pickled garlic - discovered my love for these when living overseas and so happy when they started appearing here

Fans of lazy garlic might like to try the smoky version

I ALWAYS have a garlic grinder in, in fact I usually have one on the go and a spare as I use it most days! Garlic mash, stir fries, pasta, soups, stews and casseroles - works with most things

Agree with roasted jarred peppers - so handy

Frozen diced onion - I suffer TERRIBLY with the crying thing and as it’s just me don’t often need to use a full onion so this is much more convenient

Fresh lemon and lime juice in bottles - admittedly initially for baking rum and coke but so handy for so many dishes especially stir fries and now smoothies too

That's my diet fucked.... 😂.

I’ve just been told by my gp to eat more to lose weight (honestly) long story

Disclaimer - NOT a wine expert but I do like Chilean merlot and I’m loving Tesco Isla negra merlot which is yummy BUT be careful when ordering online as they also sell it in a stupid small 50cl size which looks on the website/app like a regular size bottle (not an alcy drink maybe 1-2 times a month but I don’t like being misled)

For Scots/veggie mners - I highly recommend the Simon howie veggie square sausage, delicious! I’ve just bought and frozen the veggie black pud but not tried it yet. Probably having for brekkie tomorrow with eggs and toast! Stupidly forgot to get tattie scones in! Also macsween veggie haggis is yum too

Against the “rules” of the thread but when I can get this I LOVE granovita yeast pate in the tubes from Holland and Barrett - wish they were sold at Tesco!

Also sainsbury's world food aisle has fudco packs of just the nice stringy bits from Bombay mix! Which is fab because it saves me picking through and getting the unexpected horror of an accidental peanut. I love Bombay mix but that includes the peanuts. I think they’re dried toasted noodles the bits you’re talking about and you can get JUST the noodles like this in Asian and health food shops in various flavours.

Linda McCartney deep dish country pies are AMAZING been around for years yes but definitely recommend

Also quorn picnic stuff - mini savoury scotch eggs, cocktail sausages, sausage rolls, sliced fillets etc very moreish, even some of my die hard omnis love these

Quorn fish style products I like a lot, quite a delicate flavour but delicious

Browsing veggie on Tesco app - anyone tried bells vegan scotch pies? I used to LOVE scotch pies before going veggie, fray bentos vegan steak and kidney bean pie, this Isn’t bacon rashers,

TheClitterati · 12/09/2020 20:12

I bought so many chutneys and I'm always disappointed as they tend to be so sweet. I'd like a really flavourful spicy chutney that's not ridiculously sweet. if anyone knows of one.

I really like the jars of sliced jalapeño peppers. Yum

TheClitterati · 12/09/2020 20:14

@Lemonsaretheonlyfruit

Itsu gyoza in the Sainsbury's freezer section. I cane across them in lockdown and have now developed something of a habit. Also I notice they are doing itsu Raman broth as a base for soups/ stirfrys too.
I also love these.

We have every supermarket within 10 minutes of us. I rarely shop at Sainsbury's- unless I want Jamaican parties that is, and then we go to sainsburys who are only one stocking them.

twilightcafe · 12/09/2020 20:27

Bart Pilau spice mix from Waitrose. Faff-free seasoned rice to go with a curry.
I fry it in butter before adding rice, though.

ViciousJackdaw · 12/09/2020 20:28

The mini Stoopwaffels in the white and blue bag? They're on offer atm, just £1.

Asda, Tesco and Iceland all have lamb burgers. The Asda ones are really tasty.
AllAboutHallowsEve · 12/09/2020 20:43

Henry Hippo sweets in Lidl. £1 a bag and very similar to M&S Percy Pigs. Lovely and very moreish!

ChickenNugget86 · 12/09/2020 21:08

Haynes candied jalapeños and relish, they have a website full of lovely things, not tried them all yet. Pricey but so good.

Mercers salted caramel sauce from asda..... Would eat the whole jar if possible.

Tried a new chocolate bar from home bargains - raspberry drumstick lolly in a chocolate bar, thought it was a good combo

Joe and Sephs popcorn chocolate bites... Bought from Sainsbury's in the reduced ailse. Tasted amazing

Punkyfish3000 · 12/09/2020 21:17

White chocolate & hazelnut spread (like Kinder Bueno in a jar)
Peach Granini (takes me back to holidays in Spain)
Roasted peppers
Welsh goat's cheese
