Just a bit of fun. I always end up buying similar food items in my weekly shop. Occasionally I’ll try something new and it’s really nice and I’ll continue to buy it. For example last week I bought some balsamic chutney from Morrison’s- it was so good I’ve added it to most sandwich fillings yum 😋

Have you bought anything new recently which you’ve been really impressed with?

Dell Ugo Beetroot and Goats Cheese Fiorelli (stuffed pasta) from Waitrose. Slightly undercook, toss with warmed hazelnut/walnut oil and serve on a handful of rocket with plenty of twists of black pepper and a couple of spoonfuls of chopped nuts (bakery aisle of most supermarkets by dried fruit).

Lidl potato wedges (lovely coating on and less than a pound).

Lidl green pesto (super fussy hubby prefers it to even premium brands).

Sainsbury’s ‘oat milk drink’ better than all other oat milk I’ve tried.

Koko unsweetened coconut milk. Surprisingly uncoconutty and the closest non dairy milk to milk I have found taste-wise.

Peppadew stuffed peppers in a jar (can only find them in Tesco at the moment). Amazing with anything but I pop them in Spanish omelette style frittatas and they give an amazing jalapeño popper-type effect.

30p Miss Molly’s plain/dark chocolate from Tesco.

Tesco chocolate spread

Merchant Gourmet Puy Lentils in pouches

Frozen sliced peppers (most supermarkets)

Frozen base mix/soffrito. Essentially mix of finely diced carrot, celery and onion. Tesco sell it and I’ve seen a Waitrose version too. Great for slow cooker prep (frozen diced onion also).

Tins of sliced onions fried in olive oil that Sainsbury’s sell. Brilliant when you’re short of time.

La Chinata Smoked Pimenton Sweet (smoked paprika in a tin from Sainsbury’s). I put it in everything!

midnightstar66 · 12/09/2020 06:28

You're forgetting the pickled onion with a cheese cube on a stick also. It should be a combination of cheese and pineapple and cheese and pickled onion. I've never seen or heard of a sausage or hot dog, but yes to the foil covered grapefruit. If you're feeling fancy you could add vol au vents with egg and tuna mayo.

Wrong thread no idea how this jumped here from a different reply 😬

These are the Morrison’s ones, best ones I’ve tried. Only other ones I’ve found are in Asda and they’re ok but personally I prefer the Morrison’s ones.

I have edited tomorrow’s online shopping delivery three times since starting this wonderful thread. Sometimes I need a nudge to remember to vary our meals a bit more. And it’s so easy to check nutritional value of foods online now, so I don’t need to break rules I’ve set myself around healthier eating.

Thank you so much OP for starting it.

NicolaC17 · 12/09/2020 07:32

Morrison’s do a white chocolate and hazelnut spread and it’s like eating the inside of a kinder bueno - it’s amazing!!

Also avocado hummus Smile

Iceland - chicken pakoras

Aldi (not food) but their baby wipes are better than any I’ve tried.

Goodfellas vegan falafal pizza is also so good!

Imnotweirdimlimitededition1 · 12/09/2020 07:34

I'm putting the beetroot pesto on my list.
My contribution is Sainsburys lemon pesto also Skinny whips which are chewy chocolate covered strawberry or toffee bars from Iceland or home bargains- delicious & only 99 calories
Baby cucumbers I'll never buy a large one again as I always waste it
Feta cheese twin pack from sainsburys 75g in each & as I'm the only one that eats it there's no waste

hermesandhades · 12/09/2020 07:48

Thank you all so much, best post ever.

Londonsuffolkmummy · 12/09/2020 07:55

Squeaky Bean "King of tikka" vegan chicken style pieces. They're made from pea protein and soooo good. Even my chicken loving DP had to check the packet to make sure they were actually vegan because they tasted so convincing.

@Alwaysinpain

Aldi MAC & Cheese crispbakes (chilled). Sounds revolting I know, or like kids food but they're really, really nice. The pasta & cheese inside them is beautiful. They don't have that generic 'savoury' taste that some do. Aldi also did until recently, very very nice cheese & spring onion crispbakes (also chilled) which were beautiful! Real warming comfort food.

I also like their Tomato & Mascarpone stir in sauce in the little jars 🤤 Along with the Pesto Rosso.

Occasionally, maybe 3/4 times a year, they do big 250g tubs of grated Parmesan (ambient) in the middle aisle and it's only £2.49 and lasts you ages.

The Aldi Parmesan is great - bulk buy when you see it!
Sexnotgender · 12/09/2020 11:11

Didn’t take a special trip to coop this morning...

Excited to try the one on the left, hoping it’s the same seasoning as the crisps!

Can someone post the brand or link to the frozen paratha?

I also love the ASDA Lebanese flatbread- in the bakery section, not frozen.

If you leave near a Turkish/Middle Eastern/Pakistani store, the Lebanese flat breads are much cheaper there, 60p a pack. Nort every grocery sells them though but most do in my area.
Hobbes8 · 12/09/2020 12:08

Aldi mussels with garlic butter sauce are fab. They’re super cheap, come vacuum packed so they last ages, and you can just microwave them or they take about 3 minutes on the hob.

Also, not food, but I just bought some of their fakey le creuset cast iron cookware and I’m very pleased with it.

Londonsuffolkmummy · 12/09/2020 12:23

Co op chicken kebab crisps

storminabuttercup · 12/09/2020 12:48
@Jedstre the Panang curry is to die for too

My Thai relatives all cook with ready made curry pastes, then add tamarind/fish sauce/palm sugar to get the sweet/salty/sour balance just right

For restaurant style Thai curry, you fry the paste in oil then add the coconut milk little by little, adding it slowly means the sauce gets that nice creamy thickness
Would you mind telling me the best way to make a curry with the Penang paste please? I've got some but a little unsure

LadyPenelope68 · 12/09/2020 12:52

@LadyLovelyLockz
Tesco do these little nutty seedy bites. Like tiny sesame snaps with added bits & bobs, so good.
I love these as well, so moreish!

Elephanttrunk · 12/09/2020 14:14

Asda frozen chilli cheese bites in the party food section - always go out my way to get these 😋

Dita73 · 12/09/2020 15:02

M&S lemon and lime curd yoghurts.
Heavenly

Does anyone have the name of the Tesco nutty seedy bites please? I've looked online but failed so far!

Yay to frozen Parantha - get them in Sainsbury’s here in the halal section
I love the chilled jars of sauerkraut with dill and the kimchi from vadasz - in Waitrose they are so so good
Great thread thanks op!

Pebble21uk · 12/09/2020 15:27

Ah - ha! Thank you birdseeder - should have come up in a search but didn't for some reason - must be exact wording only!
