Just a bit of fun. I always end up buying similar food items in my weekly shop. Occasionally I’ll try something new and it’s really nice and I’ll continue to buy it. For example last week I bought some balsamic chutney from Morrison’s- it was so good I’ve added it to most sandwich fillings yum 😋

Have you bought anything new recently which you’ve been really impressed with?

Tesco Finest White Chocolate and Raspberry cookies from the fresh bakery section. Mmmmmm

MissHoney85 · 11/09/2020 22:15

Cubes of frozen crushed garlic (and ginger) from the world foods section of the freezer. I love garlic but always find peeling and crushing it a hassle, these are so easy to just throw in. It's just garlic (or ginger) too, no other stuff added like you get in the jars of paste.

goose1964 · 11/09/2020 22:18

Polish mustard DH and DS love it. We usually buy it from the East European super market but it's in Tesco if we run out. We've just had souvlaki for dinner and had Tesco's Greek style flat breads they were authentic.

Crashburger · 11/09/2020 22:26

Frozen chopped garlic and onions and herbs
Sounds pretty basic but so much better than dried stuff and easier than prepping fresh.

tortillachipsanddips · 11/09/2020 22:27

@Eminybob

Pepperdew sweet piquante peppers. I needed some for a recipe and now have them in all the time. Have them with everything from tray bakes to salads to wraps.
Yes ! Our favourite especially on a hot chicken baguette with rocket and hummus
TH22 · 11/09/2020 22:31

I love this!

CatAndHisKit · 11/09/2020 22:35

M&S Tuna pate, surprisingly nice (just 1.80)!
also their 'Best ever' sausage rolls - 3 pounds for two but very filling and taste great (almost as good as from Gail's).

Deyes999 · 11/09/2020 22:37

Morrisons white chocolate milk. Tastes like melted milky bar buttons. My sister bought me it last year when I had a sore throat and it was the only thing that soothed it. I've loved it ever since then

smoothieooo · 11/09/2020 22:38

Not sure it's a hidden gem to anyone but a coeliac, but Lidl's Monster Claws are gluten free and exactly the same as (non gf) Monster Munch. Discovered this yesterday and have had 3 bags since!

Jedstre · 11/09/2020 22:41

@Mummadeeze just added those finest chocolate muffins to tomorrow’s Tesco delivery Smile

pongopig · 11/09/2020 22:48

Great thread! My recent finds are frozen paratha as @MotherWol has already mentioned. I was looking in Asda for naan bread that was dairy-free And couldn’t find any but then found the parathas. They are so nice! Also, frozen blueberries for adding to porridge. So much cheaper than fresh and taste good.

speakout · 11/09/2020 23:00

Can someone post the brand or link to the frozen paratha?

I also love the ASDA Lebanese flatbread- in the bakery section, not frozen.

IHaveBrilloHair · 11/09/2020 23:01

Chilli jelly from the deli in Tesco, so the rosemary breadsticks.

Belindabelle · 11/09/2020 23:09

Thanks to this thread my food delivery this week seems to have doubled in price. Looking forward to trying some new products and recipes in the coming weeks.

tortillachipsanddips · 11/09/2020 23:09

Love this thread

My treat - almost better than sex treat is vego hazelnut chocolate

It's a vegan chocolate and I am not vegan but OMG it's amazing

lolarabbit · 11/09/2020 23:10

I second the frozen blueberries - they defrost almost instantly in the porridge, cooling it down and making it a great purple colour! Also, just love itsu gyoza and also itsu bao buns which they've just started stocking at Tesco near me.
My latest discovery is the tubs of feta cubes that are in their own little basket (in brine?) and stay lovely and fresh for dipping into for salads or just eating by the handful😋

You can get garlic ones also, found those in my local Morrisons

Lilypink · 11/09/2020 23:48

M&S tomato ketchup 80p a bottle (Currently on offer at 65p!) and is just like Stokes at £3 a bottle!

Really thick and delicious!

TruffleMama · 11/09/2020 23:50

Tesco onion ring crisps 🤤

Mummadeeze · 11/09/2020 23:56

Oh, just thought of another one. I buy the two pack of salmon in garlic and oil frozen from Iceland. You microwave them for 3 mins and then pour the fish and sauce over a salad or veggies or rice... makes a great quick lunch.

Oblahdeeoblahdoe · 12/09/2020 00:07

The sweet potato veggie burgers in Aldi are delicious. They're mildly spicy and remind me of onion bhajis.
Something else from Aldi is their gin, think it's called Cromwell, £9.99 and lovely

IHaveBrilloHair · 12/09/2020 00:41

Mrs Elswood Haimisha cucumbers.
They are kess pickley and more salty and absolutely amazing if you like pickkes.
Our Waitrose closed so I buy them on Amazon now.
Also Gold star pickled onions which are what the chip shops sell.

Titsywoo · 12/09/2020 00:45

The panko calamari in the fridge section at Sainsburys. Exactly like the one they do at Pizza Express - soft and delicious and not chewy like calamari often is.

Le Mesurier tartare sauce www.ocado.com/products/le-mesurier-tartare-sauce-235770011 - doesn't taste like tartar sauce at all but more like a delicious dill mayonnaise!

Sainsburys own brand chapatis (on the shelves where the curry sauces are) - so light and fluffy yet still chewy. Much nicer than the naan breads they sell in supermarkets which are a bit too dense and heavy for me.

Costco dinner rolls - addictive!

Aldi steaks - much better and cheaper than other supermarkets

Waitrose do packs of slices of Port Salut - lovely on toast!

Crosta and Mollica pizza bases - best ones there are!

Crosta and Mollica Pane Pugilese - delicious for bruschetta or dripping with butter and topped with scrambled eggs

Waitrose Morello Cherry Pie
