Hi all

Aibu to ask you lovely mumsnetters for inspiration on naming our beautiful new puppy.

I know someone who named their lab Raffles. Love that name.

We ended up picking a name out of a hat because we couldn't agree on a name for the dog. She's called Roxy and the other contributions were
Cosmo
Coco
River
Jack Jack the fast dog (from DS age 6...I may have intervened in the raffle to make sure that one didn't win!!)

What names do you like? Has he got a kc name you can use for inspiration?

I avoid human names for my animals, I usually puck a theme for different species like weather or plants.

TheRosariojewels · 09/09/2020 20:19

pick a theme

But we need a photo first. I don't make the rules.

ShinyMe · 09/09/2020 20:21

I love old man names for dogs. Albert, Norman, Reginald, that sort of thing.

kingdomcapers · 09/09/2020 20:23

First of all, MN rules for puppy naming thread - we MUST have a picture.
Second, remember you will have to shout it in public so don't go to cutesy/obscure if you or anyone else who'll be in charge of your dog can't carry it off. and it needs to work with your surname as vets will often call out Petname Surname. Do you have DC? Nothing too similar to their name either. Sounds obvious but I know someone who has called their new puppy a name one letter of difference to their granddaughter. (I actually wrote their DIL's AIBU in my head when I heard)
I like names like
Chester
Winston
Trevor
Arthur
Harvey
Baxter

@Gobbycop

Nigel
God, I’d love a dog called Nigel! I wanted to call my dog Peter, but actually the name the rescue gave him suited him quite well too, so I stuck with that.
TheVanguardSix · 09/09/2020 20:29

Ned
Nigel is a great name! Grin
Spencer
Humphrey
Stanley
Marty
Eli
Jake
Guinness
Shadow
Onyx

Ours is Winston. But he comes to anything really. He comes to 'Happy' more than he does his own name.

giletrouge · 09/09/2020 20:34

Ok seeing as this is an old man dog name thread - anone else think Malcolm is a weird name for a dog? I knew a dog called Malcolm I just couldn't get my head round it! Grin
