AIBU not to wash it first?

Bought some new bedding today. I cannot put into words how excited I get about the prospect of new bedding but, well, it's a lot. Some people love shoes, my weakness is a decent cotton count.

My question is, am I being unreasonable to rush upstairs and put it straight on my bed without it going through a wash first?

Nah! I’d wash it first!
But how exciting for you Grin

I always wash clothing, bedding, towels etc. before wearing/using them. I have quite sensitive skin and I have found that I get itchy skin if I don't wash them first.

Aquamarine1029 · 09/09/2020 16:34

If you knew the horrible chemicals that are sprayed on all new clothing and fabric before shipment, you would wash them.

babyguffingtonstrikesagain · 09/09/2020 16:40

If you don't wash it first it will just smell of minging plastic.

Crinkledbeetroot · 09/09/2020 16:41

You definitely need to wash it!

altforvarmt · 09/09/2020 16:44

You definitely need to wash it.

RedHelenB · 09/09/2020 16:48

FooFighter99 · 09/09/2020 16:48

jaffacakesareabiscuit · 09/09/2020 16:55

I never wash new bedding either Confused

Fluffycloudland77 · 09/09/2020 17:00

I’d wash it. It says to on the packaging usually and I’m a rule abider.

BashfulClam · 09/09/2020 17:02

I never wash anything new. I like the ‘new’ feeling. Not died yet.

notso · 09/09/2020 17:05

YABU love new bedding but it's so much better if it's washed, line dried and ironed.

managedmis · 09/09/2020 17:07

Wash it

DappledThings · 09/09/2020 17:07

I have never washed new bedding. It is one of those things I never knew people did until I used MN.

DappledThings · 09/09/2020 17:09

See people always say that on threads about washing new clothes. Still doesn't bother me. Never noticed anything smelling strongly of any kind of spray and it looks clean so that's good enough for me.
wolfmom · 09/09/2020 17:09

Wash first, they always have a weird chemical smell

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 09/09/2020 17:09

I always used to, but rarely bother these days.
Not sure why I stopped, but have never had anything that smelled or made me itch.

Beamur · 09/09/2020 17:12

Bedding gets treated with something to stiffen it so it folds and packs neatly.
I always wash first as I don't like the smell of the dressing (and because my Mum told me that I should).

disorganisedsecretsquirrel · 09/09/2020 17:13

If you have plenty of time in your hands for a fairly pointless activity then go for it. Each to their own ..

claireb707 · 09/09/2020 17:14

God I don't have enough hours in the week to wash new bedding before using it

And ironing bedding??? 😂😂😂😂

Stopthehop · 09/09/2020 17:17

It's coated with formeldehyde so you need to wash it.

ChazP · 09/09/2020 17:17

Have never washed new bedding before putting it on the bed (I actually quite like the smell of the plastic packaging!).

Enjoy the new bedding

DontTouchTheMoustache · 09/09/2020 17:18

I've never washed new bedding or clothes. Am still alive...so 🤷‍♀️

Beamur · 09/09/2020 17:19

Given I only buy new bedding once in a blue moon, washing it first doesn't seem that onerous..
