AIBU not to wash it first?

Bought some new bedding today. I cannot put into words how excited I get about the prospect of new bedding but, well, it's a lot. Some people love shoes, my weakness is a decent cotton count.

My question is, am I being unreasonable to rush upstairs and put it straight on my bed without it going through a wash first?

I never used to, until I realised what chemicals they use in the manufacturing/packaging process- & now I do!

I love new bedding before it's washed. You never get that back.

Another vote for washing. I just couldn't stand the idea of something coming from a factory, going through machines, touched by strangers, treated with chemicals touching my skin.

ilovepixie · 09/09/2020 21:24

Love brand new bedding and I never wash it first.

greybeans · 09/09/2020 21:27

Yes I always wash you don't know how dirty the factory's are

There is a list here of some of the toxins in cotton fabric, just an example as I don't have the original article I found a while ago.

Yeah. All sounds a bit scary but I remain unconvinced. It would take me actually having an allergic reaction to me bedding before I'd start washing it.

Iny house, bedding straight from the packet is the only time it's ever ironed. Don't deny yourself the pleasure of a well earned iron sheet at someone else's effort. Stick it straight on.

I have never washed new bedding and I'm here to tell the tale and I'm late fifties. To be honest there is nothing nicer than getting into a bed made up from new bedding. Apparently the late Jackie Onassis had brand new sheets on her bed every day. It was the only thing that my mum envied her for.
And most certainly have not washed new clothes before wearing and have never known someone who has. The only thing I wash before using is towels due to absorbency.

Well, don't wash it in water. That's a poison.

DramaAlpaca · 11/09/2020 01:27

I always open the packet and sling it straight onto the bed. I wouldn't wash clothes before wearing either.

However, I bought some bed linen from Ikea recently. It stank of chemicals like I'd never experienced before. It absolutely had to be washed first as the smell was giving me a headache.

I never wash anything new. I like the ‘new’ feeling.

Me too as soon as it comes out the wash it’s ‘old’ Blush

bengalcat · 11/09/2020 07:02

I’ve never bothered to wash anything new before use .

Florencex · 11/09/2020 07:40

I have never washed new bedding or clothes and have lived to tell the tale.
