Cake smash...

I know I am. But if people can convince me I'm not I'll be much happier 😁😁

When DS was 1 I was opposed to cake smash photoshoots because it was a waste of cake. And he was tube fed all wouldn't have touched it and was actually in the middle of a 4 month awful hospitalisation for his birthday and when he came out he ate even less than when he went in and he had/has sensory issues that just would have made it not viable.

Now I have twins who would devour a cake shop between them, who don't seem to have any issues touching messy stuff or eating ANYTHING and I really want one.

But I know they're terrible.

Would I be unreasonable to bury my principles for some cute photos of fat babies covering in icing and cream?

For clarity

DTwins will not be I'm tutus
I will be captioning nothing #SoBlessed #MakingMemories #ImSoMuchBetterThanYou #ChavLife
I found out the sex because PFB wanted sisters and I wanted to prepare him. No balloons were popped.
I've never had a balloon arch.
I don't have fruit bowls. You'll get the same bowl is serve trifle in or ice-cream and they're kept in the kitchen with the plates.

Common!

SleepingStandingUp · 09/09/2020 15:35

@ShebaShimmyShake

So they're not fake, but they often have to be staged to get the right look?

Yes. That is how a lot of photography works. They usually have to take loads of shots to get the right one too.

I somehow don't believe that this really is a new concept for most people.

I don't think she's struggling with the process, just that staging them iho makes them fake.

Yes I do see them around a lot, you're right. They must be very popular 😜

But I wouldn't cheer and encourage rolling in paint at home, but I'll take them to the craft session to do it.

How is that wasting food? How is that encouraging a child to lay with their food and cheer and encourage them to do something they do every single day and you then change he rules?

You asked AIBU ..... yes YABU!

My opinion, stop trying to change it, you've asked and I told you.

Don't like it, then don't ask.

Simple really!

@ShebaShimmyShake

Wait, what? Morals are assigned by the length of your hair? Shock I need to know more, please. Grin

People getting arsey about cake getting wasted, er, have you seen the amount of food that supermarkets throw away every single day? Why not direct your ire at them?

TheKeatingFive · 09/09/2020 15:40

#ChavLife

Please make an exception and do this one Grin

Because they've not come on mumsnet and asked AIBU?

Just a thought......

But I tell you when that CEO of Tesco comes on here, I'll be saying YABU!

My point is that there's a heck of a lot of photography that should be dismissed as "fake" if it's problematic to set up a shoot. Not all images are supposed to be candid and totally unprepared.

At any rate, I don't even see what's "fake" about it. Kid really is smashing up a cake and I can't see how anyone is being deceived about what's going on. Children's mealtimes of any description do usually have a degree of preparation involved. It's just another attempt to add moral value to something that really, really doesn't have any.

TheKeatingFive · 09/09/2020 15:43

It’s the third of all food bought for uk households being wasted that gets me.

Irelate · 09/09/2020 15:44

Along with being chavvy and common, it's also an Americanism!

It also shouts: "Look how adorable my baby is!" which turns my stomach.

But each to his or her own.

happymummy12345 · 09/09/2020 15:47

I don't like them or see the point at all, but each to their own

TheKeatingFive · 09/09/2020 15:47

I suspect that’s getting to the real heart of it for many on here.

How dare those yanks influence our practices? Surely it should be the other way around? Wink

😂😂😂😂😂😂 is a discussion board not a post your opinion and no one will ever mention it again.
My point about the paint wasn't that it was good. You asked about new encouraging my child to do something they're not usually allowed to do. Paint is comparable because at home we don't throw cake or roll in paint. At the craft centre ,/ studio it's permissible.

6 months of weaning will not be undone by one cake smash

Oh my gosh I should have an early one and theme it for Halloween 🎃🤣

That's exactly my opinion. The ones that are very much in the 'let's pretend we are having a lovely family outing' style are fake and totally contrived. It's usually funny that they get shared with nauseating gushing captions about how perfect the day is / how blessed they are / making memories etc, which is the very opposite of a staged and contrived afternoon where a family spends ages with a photographer throwing leaves in just the right way.

No because it isn't my cake smash. But they might, if they so choose. In the special cake smash place

That's an awful lot of speculation about a theoretical photo shoot of a child with a cake.

See this is why we aren't doing it at home. They made enough bloody mess in Starbucks and I looked like that parent leaving a mess behind

Alternatively it was a reply to the OP asking opinions about photoshoots in general and a tangent discussion between a few posters.

I said that I feel the same about staging cake smash shoots as I do about the need for everything to seemingly require professional photoshoots, people asked why, I replied.

So no, not 'an awful lot of speculation' about a hypothetical cake smash.

YABU. Tacky and chavvy. But I guess, if that is your scene, fair enough.
