Turn around time on Covid results?

RoseGoldEagle · 08/09/2020 09:34

I know this isn’t an AIBU but posting for traffic and so I can do a poll, as really need to get back to work and wondering how long it will be! (As long as the test is negative obvs). How long did your Covid result take to come back after going to a drive through test centre?

Vote YANBU for- it took LESS than 48 hours for my results to come back

Vote YABU for - it took MORE than 48 hours for my results to come back

Thank you!!

You didn't allow voting. YABU. 48 hours is too optimistic.

SoCrimeaRiver · 08/09/2020 09:41

We're now on day 3, so 40 hours + waiting for DS' results. They told us at the drive-through centre we'd get the results within 24 hours. 119 now cuts you off as they're too busy to speak to you so frig knows what we're now meant to do to get his results.

It's really not good enough. We have to work so can't keep kids off school for days every time they get a slight cough.

Ilikecakes · 08/09/2020 09:42

Less than 24 hours for us, both times we’ve had it done over the last few months.

Ilikecakes · 08/09/2020 09:43

Sorry, should’ve added the most recent test was yesterday at 9.30am, got results texted through at 6am today. Really impressed, and so relieved as it meant my two well children could go to school while I kept just the coughing one at home!

SoCrimeaRiver · 08/09/2020 09:48

Apologies for my rubbish maths, we're now on 66+ hours waiting for results, not 40+ hours. Anyone know where else we can go to get results? Online it looks like GPs can't see the results from drive-through centres so we can't ask there.

What times are people phoning and getting through to 119? Couldn't get through yesterday evening or 8.30 this morning because they were too busy to answer my call and cut me off.

KarlKennedysDurianFruit · 08/09/2020 09:48

Had my test at 3pm on a Saturday at a drive through centre a couple of weeks ago, got my results just before 9am the next day, same for DH, DSs room until around 12 -not sure why we were all tested at the same time.
DM had a test recently on a Friday around lunchtime and had her results late Saturday afternoon.

AriettyHomily · 08/09/2020 09:49

36 hours a couple of weeks ago. No tests available where I live at the minute

KarlKennedysDurianFruit · 08/09/2020 09:49

We're in the South east, would be interesting to know where people are to see if delays are regional

SoCrimeaRiver · 08/09/2020 09:51

We're East Midlands. Tested in Leicester. No postal tests available when I call 119 but same day drive-in tests available (just so long as you don't want the results in this lifetime).

ChaChaCha2012 · 08/09/2020 09:52

If you want an indication of how long it might be now, there's no point in people telling you what happened three weeks ago!

OldEvilOwl · 08/09/2020 09:54

Tested 11.30am Sunday woke up to the negative result this morning (tues). North Wales so less than 48hrs

Exploring · 08/09/2020 10:10

Sent postal test back Friday, still waiting, bucks area.

RoseGoldEagle · 08/09/2020 10:13

SoCrimeaRiver agree that’s my worry about this happening often throughout winter. We had DD tested about 6 weeks ago and got results back in 24hs which was great as we could carry on with normal life, but if it’s going to be a lot longer then it’s going to be so difficult.

I’m in the North East

Tested Wednesday morning. Got results back Sunday afternoon.

Previous tests have been 24 hours, but seems to be much slower turn around now. One of my neighbours can't even get a test today unless they drive 215 miles.

SoCrimeaRiver · 08/09/2020 10:27

@lyralalala so if you've got kids, they're meant to stay at home Wed, Thurs and Fri pending the Sunday results? That's cr*p.

Whereabouts in the country are you? At least it's not just us getting a rotten turnaround time for results.

Thelongdarkteatime · 08/09/2020 10:38

Drive through on Friday at 11am, results 2345 the same day. Negative and in north of England

BarbaraLighthouse · 08/09/2020 10:48

Tested Saturday, results 48 hours later. I think delays will get even longer as more kids pick up a colf from school.

RoseGoldEagle · 08/09/2020 15:03

What times are people phoning and getting through to 119?

SoCrimeaRiver. I just got through now (3ish) and they’ve sent mine to the ‘delay team’ but couldn’t give any indication of how long that would take, just that there was a big back log.

If you’ve quarantined for 14 days or whatever it is now, and still not got your result but you’ve done the quarantine since symptoms began, can you go back to work? Or do you have to wait for the results?

RoseGoldEagle · 08/09/2020 17:31

If you’ve self isolated for the right amount of days (10-14 days depending on the situation I think), then you can go back to work if you’re basically well- the guidelines talk about how if you still have a cough after that time but are otherwise well that’s ok- but it lists symptoms where you’d need to continue self isolating. So if your test hadn’t come back but you’d isolated for 14 days and were feeling better you could go back to work even without the test result.

But please don’t tell me you’ve waiting that long for a result?!

OddestSock · 08/09/2020 17:39

I did a home test on my daughter last week and got the result within 36 hours of posting it back (received the test itself the day after I had requested it)

LioneIRichTea · 08/09/2020 17:54

I haven’t OP, been a day so far, but just seem to hear of people getting better or quarantine ending before the results arrive ...

VirginiaWolverine · 08/09/2020 18:04

If you get on the wrong day, a full quarantine is perfectly possible. DS got sick with a fever on Thursday night. I managed to order a home testing kit on Friday morning. It arrived on Saturday afternoon. The tests can only be returned on weekdays, so he couldn't do the test until Monday, to be sent off in the 5.15pm postal collection. We were told that results should be available two days after they get to the lab, which gives a week of quarantine at the very minimum, but the info also said that results could take longer, and not to chase up results until 5 days have gone by. So DS might be out of quarantine by the time he gets the results, and I might well end up missing a fortnight of work.

OnlyLittleMissOrganised · 08/09/2020 18:29

More like 72 hours here. Then I found a local number to ring and got them over the phone. 119 are beyond useless. They said they couldn't chase up the results because we didnt have a bar code number ( we were not given one). Which is different to the QR code you are logged against when at the testing site. Also 119 do not even highlight that you can get results there. If you want to speak to someone on that system when it asks if you want to speak in a different language, choose that option. It worked for me! Although they did not help.

RoseGoldEagle · 08/09/2020 21:33

Just got our results so took around 56 hours. Relieved kids can go to nursery tomorrow and I can get back to work! Not looking forward to repeats of throughout winter every time one of them develops a cough though
