Is my leg about to fall off?

MadameBee · 07/09/2020 22:23

Bitten 4/5 times by mosquito yesterday on leg/ankle.

Ankle massively swollen got to touch, very red and throbbing.

Has anyone else ever had this? I never have, have taken an anticipated but it doesn’t seem to be working.

Can you have a weird reaction to a bite? (Am in the UK).

TIA 😬👍🏻

Oh dear! I'd seek medical advice! www.nhs.uk/conditions/insect-bites-and-stings/ guessing 111 right now...

Rinoachicken · 07/09/2020 22:26

I had that a couple of weeks ago!! Ended up having to get antibiotics from the GP as it was turning nasty.

Hydrocortisone cream from pharmacy really helped with the itching as well

CitizenFame · 07/09/2020 22:27

If it hasn’t improved by Wednesday and/or gets worse I would go to a doctor. Not if it just happened yesterday though.

MadameBee · 07/09/2020 22:27

What is it some type of new evil mosquito?! That’s all we need right now! 🤣

You need antibiotics by the sounds of it. Hot, red, swelling are all red flags for infection

bigglewig · 07/09/2020 22:28

Just to say I know someone who had this, and although leg didn't fall off they did need immediate medical care! I'd defo get help tonight!

Onlyonce · 07/09/2020 22:28

Sounds like cellulitis. Please call 111 or go to local treatment centre because you will likely need antibiotics. It can get pretty nasty so I would go or call now. Hope it clears for you soon.

RowboatsinDisguise · 07/09/2020 22:29

I always react like that to mozzie bites. Have you got any hydrocortisone cream? Also take some antihistamine. If it’s still bad in the morning, go and see a pharmacist. Sometimes you can get cellulitis from insect bites so draw a line in biro around the swollen area and if it’s starting to spread, speak to a doctor.

MadameBee · 07/09/2020 22:29

Shit really?! 😱😱

Yes I have taken an antihistamine and I have a cooling spray not doing a lot though ....

Friend had a bite. It was sore. Went to pharmacy for advice. Pharmacist sent her straight to GP. GP sent straight to hospital.
Hot, red, sore all signs of infection. Definitely phone for further advice.

aceofspades987 · 07/09/2020 22:45

Yes same happened to my friend this summer. Can get very serious so at the very least see a pharmacist.

ChestyNut · 07/09/2020 22:52

Can we see a photo?

Draw around the redness with a pen to check for spread.

Yorkshirepudding1987 · 07/09/2020 22:55

My partner reacts to horse fly bites.
Usually dnds up with cellulitis, you can see the infection tracking his veins.
Can be very dangerous so id draw a line around the redness and ring 111 for an out of hours appointment.

Murinae · 07/09/2020 22:58

I always get this. Was probably a horsefly bite. Will usually go down in a day or so.

sosickofarseholes · 07/09/2020 23:00

do you have any aloe Vera? I nearly went to hospital with mine and rubbed aloe Vera in them as I couldn’t sleep and in the morning they had gone right down. Yes absolutely draw around where the red is and keep an eye on your temperature

IlovecatsyesIdo · 07/09/2020 23:03

Don’t take any chances, as others have advised draw a line around the red area and call 111. Don’t leave it until the morning.

MadameBee · 07/09/2020 23:05

I have tried to take a photo but am struggling to get a decent one 🤣🤣

Yes, not just one leg but both!! Shock
Seriously though, GP first thing tomorrow morning. Call 111 if you’re feeling unwell tonight.

MadameBee · 07/09/2020 23:06

I have drawn around it,

Call 111 even mozzy bites can end up cellulitis

DragonPie · 07/09/2020 23:14

My youngest has antibiotics every year because he gets cellulitis from bites.

caringcarer · 07/09/2020 23:20

I get cellulitis about 5 or 6 times each year due to insect bites. Always on my lower leg/ankle. GP will give you 2 weeks strong antibiotics. Take them all even if redness and swelling goes down and no longer hot to touch or else it will flare back up a week or two later. If you leave it you will end up in hospital on intravenous antibiotics.

Onlyonce · 07/09/2020 23:35

I've had cellulitis several times. If it was me, as I said in an earlier post, I would call or go for advice now. If you are planning to wait until morning please reconsider if you start having any flu like symptoms or fever
