Calling people's kids ugly. AIBU to think this is low?

Work colleague posted this today on Facebook. I've name changed for obvious reasons as you never know who's on here.

"Alright man shit, I've had enough of seeing your ugly kids. Yes school is back in session"

I'm one of the many parents who have shared a photo of my child returning to school today. I appreciate acquaintances aren't interested but I have plenty of family and friends who are. I don't post for their benefit or entertainment nor do I expect others to gush over my DC and comment etc. I post significant events to document our year and to reflect on in time using the memories feature.

AIBU to think this is a disgusting thing to post online about peoples children?

I think you’re being sensitive. It’s a generic statement, not about a specific child. But isn’t my sort of humour

MoonBase10 · 07/09/2020 12:41

Of course no child should be called ugly yanbu with that

But facebook is a platform for people to share views and opinions that really noone cares about but the individual themselves

That persons opinion is that children are ugly

Honestly delete facebook. Send the images and updates directly through messenger or whatsapp
Thats the best move i ever made as i dont need to see the posts that rile me

Justwhyyyy · 07/09/2020 12:41

I didn't think it was directed at me and my DC personally, more so a sweeping statement, but still took offence.

seayork2020 · 07/09/2020 12:42

Sure I think its not nice but that is as far as i would think of it, not a personal insult though

sst1234 · 07/09/2020 12:43

Disgusting? Really? You have led a sheltered life, OP. A bit dramatic and OTT ob your part.

ChanceChanceChance · 07/09/2020 12:44

The biggest issue is it isn't funny tbh. Can't you just wait a while and cull him from your friends so you don't get any future shit jokes?

cherrybakewellll · 07/09/2020 12:48

I wouldn't want to be HR in your company, you'd keep them busy I bet!

JalapenoDave · 07/09/2020 12:50

It is generally mean to refer to children as "ugly" but I guess if you don't have children you don't see the offence in it. If that makes sense.
However in the grand scheme of things it's mean to refer to anyone as ugly, not just children.

WorraLiberty · 07/09/2020 12:52

Well it's certainly not very nice.

But then nor is using social media to 'document' anything about your child's private life.

There are other far more private ways to do that.

Soubriquet · 07/09/2020 12:53

It’s to do with the fact that every parent (we haven’t this year Shock) does the child in front of door photo, and there was a meme a while ago with sloth from the goonies pasted over the face.

woodhill · 07/09/2020 12:54

Agree it is horrible to post that sort of thing, I liked the back to school photos, very encouraging - the old adage if you haven't anything nice to say etc

FelicityPike · 07/09/2020 12:55

As long as they’re not singling any particular child/ren out then no, it’s not disgusting or offensive.
Children can be ugly but I think this poster means that they’re fed up looking at “back to school” pics and meant this in jest.

WorraLiberty · 07/09/2020 12:57

I saw a meme yesterday that was just a photo of a front door and a caption saying "For those of us who have chosen not to have kids" 😂😂

TheRealShatParp · 07/09/2020 12:59

Oh but the photos are so boring aren’t they. People just love sharing loads of shit that nobody asked for.

EveryDaysASchoolDayEh · 07/09/2020 13:00

I love seeing everyone's back to school pics. I'm guessing that person doesn't have children and just has a different sense of humour to you. I would have no hesitation hitting the unfollow button. That button has been getting a massive workout in the last 12 months, it's really satisfying unfollowing people.

OverTheRainbow88 · 07/09/2020 13:03

People just love sharing loads of shit that nobody asked for.

Isn’t that the whole point of social media...!

contrmary · 07/09/2020 13:04

It's just a jokey comment, not targeting a specific ugly child.

IslaBas · 07/09/2020 13:05

Some kids are proper ugly though

WorraLiberty · 07/09/2020 13:06

I'm guessing that person doesn't have children and just has a different sense of humour to you.

That's interesting EveryDaysASchoolDayEh Why would you guess they don't have children?

Soubriquet · 07/09/2020 13:08

I saw that one Grin
Haworthia · 07/09/2020 13:08

I’ve seen worse memes than that, re. photos of kids returning to school.

It’s just really unfunny. And frankly, if someone I know is having such venomous thoughts about me and my children/mothers and children generally, they can get the fuck off my friends list.

Soubriquet · 07/09/2020 13:09

This is the meme I was on about

OrigamiOwl · 07/09/2020 13:10

You don't like what he posts, he doesn't like what you post...
I wouldn't say it's offensive, it's not funny either, but not offensive.
If you don't like what he posts just unfollow him.

HolyForkinShirt · 07/09/2020 13:10

Ok, there was no need for them to call kids ugly, but she has a point.

I do not share pictures of my children on social media at all to be honest. My Instagram has been FLOODED with the generic picture of children standing by the front door, usually with the name of the school showing on their jumpers/cardigans.

I just find it so strange that anyone would think the whole of their social media would be interested.

I received private messages this morning from family members and my closet friends asking how the children were going in, and i replied with a picture, but i wouldnt post it on social media.

I am however a huge hypocrite because i 'liked' most of the post i saw

Im not a complete miserable grump

TheRealShatParp · 07/09/2020 13:11

OvertheRainbow88

Yes it is. But some people choose to share the occasional thing that can be interesting or amusing, while others want to share every single mind numbingly boring aspect of their day.
