Calling people's kids ugly. AIBU to think this is low?

Work colleague posted this today on Facebook. I've name changed for obvious reasons as you never know who's on here.

"Alright man shit, I've had enough of seeing your ugly kids. Yes school is back in session"

I'm one of the many parents who have shared a photo of my child returning to school today. I appreciate acquaintances aren't interested but I have plenty of family and friends who are. I don't post for their benefit or entertainment nor do I expect others to gush over my DC and comment etc. I post significant events to document our year and to reflect on in time using the memories feature.

AIBU to think this is a disgusting thing to post online about peoples children?

@WorraLiberty

ravenmum did you misread number 2? Confused

Unless I've misread and you're accusing the OP of being a troll? Apologies if so.

Oh, I thought you meant she wasn't back because she was one? Which I did wonder :) but I don't believe we're allowed to discuss it!

@Elsewyre
I think the people saying 'what kind of English is that?' mean the lack of punctuation.
plenty of people say 'Man' for an exclamation, {especially old hippies} but it needed a comma.

A bit like the ''Eats, shoots & leaves'' book, about why punctuation matters.

SinisterBumFacedCat · 07/09/2020 14:11

Are they a teacher?

Khajit · 07/09/2020 14:12

You obviously have a different sense of humour, just unfriend them if it bothers you.

I have got pretty fed up with social media and really culled my friends list over the last few months. Now it's all family and actual friends on there. I put up a back to school pic and loved seeing everyone else's.

Oysterbabe · 07/09/2020 14:14

The people complaining about the first day of school pictures are joyless fuckers imo.

WorraLiberty · 07/09/2020 14:18

Elsewyre my head is banging now 🤣

Sunshineandsparkle · 07/09/2020 14:25

I think you’re being overly sensitive. I think he must have touched a nerve Op, otherwise you wouldn’t be so offended 😂

Justwhyyyy · 07/09/2020 14:26

It's not a meme, she wrote the post.

There may be memes saying similar but this was a Facebook status, written by her.

I don't see how calling any children ugly regardless of how they look is funny.

Nobody should be making cruel comments about children full stop. It's just rude and unnecessary.

I have a quirky sense of humour but fail to see how this is "funny" at all Confused

They do have a point. Our kids going to school is only really interesting to us and close family. I find other people’s’ kids and dogs tend to make me think I couldn’t love a kid/dog like that.

If it’s upset you that much, and I do think you’re over reacting, then why not just unfriend the person who has offended you.

Crazycrazylady · 07/09/2020 14:30

Op

You seem to have taken this unusually personally. Do you share a lot of photos and are you perhaps worried that it might passively aggressively directed at you?
Just unfriend or mute her if you are very offended.

Horses for courses though isn't it?

She thought it was funny and posted it on her own timeline.

You think it's ok to post photos of your DC and you did so on your own timeline.

Not something I could get fussed about personally but we're all different I guess.

Out of order if it’s directed at any one child, but I would not take offence at this at all. Maybe stop posting pics of your kids online if you’re so sensitive.

dottiedodah · 07/09/2020 14:34

I am not on FB but find these sort of comments unkind and idiotic TBH .All children (and their parents)! want to do is mark their return to School in uncertain times ,without some "wit" saying things in bad taste .As the saying goes "If you cant say something nice ,then dont say anything!

Graciebobcat · 07/09/2020 14:35

The OP probably will unfriend or unfollow the person if they continue to make poorly expressed, passive-aggressive, lackwit comments, but it's also absolutely ok to talk about the sort of crap things people post on FB, on MN!

dottiedodah · 07/09/2020 14:37

No children are "ugly" they are our future .The only people who are "ugly" are those adults with a nasty outlook!

Justwhyyyy · 07/09/2020 14:41

It did hit a nerve yes, because I posted a photo of my child returning to school about half an hour before she posted that status.

Its likely not about me personally but the shoe fits and it's a dig made at people doing what I've done, about our children.

She does have children of her own btw but has chosen not to post them, her prerogative.

It's rare I post anything child related but was proud of my DC today and wanted to share the photo.

If she's that bored of seeing these pictures then perhaps she should come off Facebook herself. I haven't seen anybody else moaning.

Well it's not funny but Im heartily sick and tired of seeing photos of kids in front of doors in their school uniform on fb. Sure, take a photo for yourself but don't fill up my feed with it.
Ditto school discos. I don't care if Seth/Daisy have a new top/shoes whatever. Take the photo, keep it for yourself.

All children?

Most children don't get a say in having their private lives 'documented' on social media by their parents.

No.

How about you unfollow the people who are boring you?

Problem solved.

It's literally a joke, a crap one, but that's it. The fact it stings you so much is because you posted a photo of your kid. So did thousands of others across the country.... who cares. In the kindest way, get over it.

I have a quirky sense of humour I highly doubt that from your upset over a bad joke

So where is the joke? What's funny?

WorraLiberty · 07/09/2020 14:48

So where is the joke? What's funny?

If you have to ask that, then the joke is not for you and doesn't suit your sense of humour like it suits hers and others.

Surely as an adult you understand that different people have a different sense of humour?
