Another heatwave coming...apparently.

I cannot cope with the idea of yet another mini heatwave we have due from tomorrow.
However I read this is in The Daily Mail so it may or may not be true...but the idea of more hot weather just makes me grumpy.
I live in a new build and it is like a sauna at the best of times. I feel like that sauna owner on Frozen.
AIBU for wanting some proper autumn weather to kick in? Nice crisp days, cold nights. Give me cold weather over heat any time. I think in a past life I was a snowman.

@SoupDragon

There are so few hot days in the U.K. compared to all the miserable cold, wet ones.
I love the miserable, cold wet days. Simply because hot weather makes my house uncomfortable and muggy. As much as I come across a grumpy bugger I do love the sunshine - at the weekend when I spend the days outside. But during the week when I'm cooped up in front of my laptop or in the office, I'd much prefer it cold and miserable. I can delve into my stash of Cadburys Highlights then Wink

I love the miserable, cold wet days.

Lucky for you there are so many of them then.

Yup. The Great British climate is wonderful.

There will also be no rain, so out with the hoses and rainbutt unless you want your garden to wither.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 07/09/2020 10:05

My guess is a minor warm-wave - not at all unusual in September.

Always amuses me when people in the U.K. moan about humidity. I wonder how on earth they’d ever manage in the many countries where our version would look like a very poor relation.

FredaFlinstone · 07/09/2020 10:06

I'm ready for Autumn. In fact I was just about to change over my clothes. Now we are going to have a heatwave. Oh FFS.

jessstan2 · 07/09/2020 10:11

I read last week that it would be hot this week. I agree the previous heatwave was quite enervating and I certainly wouldn't call it 'mini', it went on for weeks! However this week is not going to be as hot as it was then so should be pleasant and comfortable. September is often really nice.

Our weather has certainly taken a turn for the better in recent years, hopefully next year we will be able to go away somewhere and enjoy it properly.

Only in the UK do you call 21 celsius a "heatwave"

ilovesooty · 07/09/2020 10:15

@SoupDragon

Please let there be a heatwave! This weather is utterly miserable and it's only the start of September. I'm not sure I can last til June.
Same here. I really hope it's true.

Last time I went to Hong Kong, in 2018, we arrived to temperatures of 28 degrees, which coming from SE UK and temps that had been above 30 degrees for ages that summer, should have been quite nice. Didn’t account for the above 98% humidity though 😮. Thought I was going to expire.

Yes. And still people moan and hanker after their cliché ridden idealised autumn.
JalapenoDave · 07/09/2020 10:25

@ilovesooty I really don't believe that English autumns are as they are portrayed in Hollywood movies or Facebook memes - believe it or not I'm not completely naive. I was simply moaning about the hot weather, which we seem to have had a lot of this year; my house turns into a sauna and it's awful. Each to their own though - a lot of people live for hot weather! I'm not one of them, I'm not a fan of sleeping in my own sweat at night.
I do however adore the sunshine when I'm away, on holiday or a long weekend, etc. I'm not a completely misery guts Wink

The virus seems to flourish best in the cold, so, if only for that reason, bring on the sunshine.

Though I quite like the sun for its own sake too.

Zaphodsotherhead · 07/09/2020 10:48

I also like high humidity (and yes, I have been in countries where it exists and am not just basing it on quite warm days in Britain).

Muggy hot days are my favourites. I may have to emigrate. But I love looking at the changes in season and I could never do 'hot Christmasses' like Australia.

Oh I am buggered.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 07/09/2020 10:56

Zaphod
You need the Philippines. High humidity, they have seasons (well, the rainy season and the dry season 😂) and Christmas starts round about July. 😂

Lots of lovely weather - but not during the school holidays really. At least not up here.

BashfulClam · 07/09/2020 11:25

Come to Scotland...

Another heatwave coming...apparently.
nevermorelenore · 07/09/2020 11:43

I'm in the south east and it's only going to be 21 apparently. Plus, if it gets cloudy, then it's hardly going to be baking. I'd say its jeans and light cardigan weather.

lynsey91 · 07/09/2020 11:58

@jessstan2 when and where exactly was the "mini" heatwave that went on for weeks?

It certainly missed the Midlands and even in Essex, where my family live and where I spent some time in July and August there were only really 5 or 6 days of hot weather

AlwaysCheddar · 07/09/2020 12:01

The heatwave is going to be 21-24 degrees - that's not a heatwave! The world laughs at us with these remarks - Can you imagine the Aussies - their heatwave in probably above 40 degrees! Thats hot!

I think you're right, it's nice to be away at that time or at least out in fresh air; it can be unbearable indoors. I'm in SE London.

Still I am looking forward to the next few days of warm sunshine and not such very high temperatures.

JalapenoDave · 07/09/2020 12:44

@jessstan2 yes agree, it is definitely nice to be away when it's sunny, not stuck indoors!

LadyCatStark · 07/09/2020 16:36

@SoupDragon you forgot whimsically crunching in leaves (which actually translates to getting rotten, wet mulch stuck to your boots and vetting it through the house).
