Another heatwave coming...apparently.

I cannot cope with the idea of yet another mini heatwave we have due from tomorrow.
However I read this is in The Daily Mail so it may or may not be true...but the idea of more hot weather just makes me grumpy.
I live in a new build and it is like a sauna at the best of times. I feel like that sauna owner on Frozen.
AIBU for wanting some proper autumn weather to kick in? Nice crisp days, cold nights. Give me cold weather over heat any time. I think in a past life I was a snowman.

I’m in the SE, the highest temperature predicted for the next few days is 22 degrees, and generally hovering around 19. The BBC app says 24 for next Tuesday but long range forecasts are rarely that accurate and 24 isn’t high enough to be called a heatwave anyway.

SoupDragon · 07/09/2020 08:35

despite the mountain of sarcasm in your post, I literally live for that one day a year that we actually get glorious Autumn weather

I was just repeating what all the Summer Haters post during the summer 😂

JinglingHellsBells · 07/09/2020 08:35

Well, if you call a heatwave around 70F or 20C then yes it's a heatwave Hmm

[According to the Daily Mail}

chomalungma · 07/09/2020 08:37

21 - 23 c is not a heatwave.

It's a nice temperature.

30 plus is a heatwave. But it serves the Daily EXPRESS well to say there is a HEATWAVE coming and then to say it in FAHRENHEIT as well.

tribpot · 07/09/2020 08:56

It's pissing down and 12° in Leeds at the moment. We expect highs of 16. Tomorrow - same.

I think maybe the Mail made this story up? A first for them, I know.

GameSetMatch · 07/09/2020 08:59

18 and raining tomorrow near me definitely no heatwave!

Friendsoftheearth · 07/09/2020 09:00

It is a two day event. Not 35c but 21c at best. This will most likely be the last of the summer sun, maybe soak it up whilst it is here, have a glass of rose in the sun light, as winter and darkness will be here to stay any day now.

Zaphodsotherhead · 07/09/2020 09:01

North Yorkshire here and predicted 21 degrees. I don't even take my cardie off under 24 degrees. But I am a cold arse and readily agree that I may be living in the wrong part of the wrong country on the wrong planet.

You never know. September can be quite pleasant really.

I want some warm weather! My craft club can only meet up in person in a garden because there’s 8 of us and we're pig sick of Zoom meetings so a few weeks of not raining, warm weather would do wonders for all of us! 🤞🤞

JalapenoDave · 07/09/2020 09:05

I think the Daily Fail have been exaggerating again. Sorry to all you heat-lovers, I just cannot cope with hot weather. Unless I'm on holiday next to a pool Smile

WanderingMilly · 07/09/2020 09:06

Please, please no more heat. I can't bear it and I'm hoping the hottest days are over for this year at least. Yesterday the BBC said we've had a really wet summer. Really? I think we've had a heatwave summer, what with all those 35+ days we had, and the farmer's harvest is down by 30% because of drought. So what's that all about???

JalapenoDave · 07/09/2020 09:06

I understand your frustration over the Zoom meetings- they truly are the worst! For your sake I hope the weather gets warmer for you. I'll just sit in the fridge while you guys enjoy the weather Grin

Not just the Mail.

The Express can always be relied upon. Except for some reason, they put it Celsius and not Fahrenheit

www.express.co.uk/news/weather/1332238/uk-hot-weather-forecast-maps-chart-met-office-september-heatwave

But when you dig deeper,...

The Weather Outlook forecast for this week read: "Most of the UK has a good deal of dry and sunny weather during the first few days, although the risk of rain remains in the north west.
"It is likely to become warm for a time, particularly in the south and east of Britain.

EmilySpinach · 07/09/2020 09:14

It's very often the case that August weather is disappointing and then September is glorious, but it takes us by surprise every year!

0blio · 07/09/2020 09:20

For some reason American temps are different....An American friend said ''It's cold here today..36 degrees''

Don't they generally use Fahrenheit in America though? So 36 deg F would actually be just above freezing.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 07/09/2020 09:31

It's 13 degrees here right now - NE Scotland - so I would LOVE a heatwave!

JellyBabiesSaveLives · 07/09/2020 09:32

18 degrees here tomorrow. That will be quite pleasant if I wear a jumper.

HesterShaw1 · 07/09/2020 09:32

@SoupDragon

Proper autumn weather in this country involves relentless gales, rain and mud.

Don't be silly, it involves crisp sunny days, cosy blankets and hot chocolate. Apparently.

Oh yes! ALWAYS hor choc😂
HaggyMaggie · 07/09/2020 09:35

I hate the hot weather but a balmy September is wonderful, it’s rarely warm at night and gets dark earlier and light later. Very different from a scorching June.

lynsey91 · 07/09/2020 09:36

Well apart from the awful week of far too hot weather, this year hasn't been great at all. We had our heating on some days in June and July and the end of August

I live in the Midlands and apart from April when it was sunny and reasonably warm it has been chilly far too often. It has also been windy most days and some days so windy I have had to use about 6 pegs per item to keep my washing on the line.

We have also had rain, even if just a little, almost every day since about July.

The forecasts are useless. I try and do my washing on the days they say there will be no rain. Guess what, there is always rain

SoupDragon · 07/09/2020 09:36

I think we've had a heatwave summer, what with all those 35+ days we had

The historical data for London shows only 4 days of 34° (the highest temp) for the whole of July and August. Obviously other areas will differ.

HaggyMaggie · 07/09/2020 09:36

I’m never surprised by wet august and July, it’s hurricane season across the Atlantic so we inevitably pickup their tail end of wet weather. May, June and September are usually the best months.

SoupDragon · 07/09/2020 09:37

There are so few hot days in the U.K. compared to all the miserable cold, wet ones.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 07/09/2020 09:38

How they can be so consistently wrong always amazes me
They’re fabulous aren’t they? It was windy, rainy and thunder and lightning here yesterday. Well, according to them. In reality it was mostly blue skies and sunshine 🤷‍♀️
