Just in case, spoiler alert!

Sirius Black.

Assumpta from Ballykissangel. As soon as I saw the thread title it all came flooding back! The unfairness of it all, just as her and the vicar had found each other! I'll never get over it!

Coldilox · 07/09/2020 17:46

Oh and yes to Derek Shepherd.

And Sonia in Neighbours

Boxer in Animal Farm. Bless him.

Piggy in Lord Of The Flies. I can’t bear it.

Lennie in Of Mice And Men. Sad

Can you tell I’m an English teacher? God knows why we’re forced to teach such relentlessly sad texts.

MeandT · 07/09/2020 17:46

Goose.

That's Anthony Edwards up for a double whammy there with Dr Green as well. I don't even fancy him!

Chickoletta · 07/09/2020 17:46

Julia Poldark, Ross and Demelza’s first child who died as a toddler. DS was about the same age the first time I read this and I was inconsolable. Still feel a bit weepy now thinking of Ross carrying the tiny coffin across the cliffs to the funeral... 😥

When Rayna James died in Nashville it floored me. I didn't know it was coming and the way they handled the aftermath of grief was so powerful, I was a wreck.

So many deaths in Grey's, but the one that stays with me is the woman who had the tree trunk through her middle. She was alive and chatty and completely with it, but they knew the moment they tried to remove it, she'd die. Just horrific.

And Mr Nigel Murray - gutted.

Chickoletta · 07/09/2020 17:54

Yes to Lennie in OMAM but Candy’s Dog gets me more. (Also an English teacher!) It’s other people’s grief that tends to get me more than the death itself. Also Cordelia in King Lear and Beth in Little Women for the same reason.

mommybunny · 07/09/2020 17:54

Have not yet RTFT but I was coming on here to mention Gus Macrae from Lonesome Dove. I’m not much of a crier but that really had me in bits. Robert Duvall was so wonderful in that role but almost as affecting was Tommy Lee Jones transporting his body to bury him.

Also appreciated the mention of Mrs Landingham on West Wing. I’ve always told myself one of these days I’ll get 3 cats (2 male and one female) and I’m going to name them Admiral Percival Fitzwallace, Agent Simon Donovan and Mrs Dolores Landingham in honour of the 3 characters whose deaths on that show shocked me. If I get yet another male cat I will name him Vice President-elect Leo McGarry but his death was sadly not a shock as we already knew the actor who played him had passed away. (And in any event I’m allergic to cats.)

I was also going to mention Gary from Thirtysomething. That was totally out of left field as everyone was celebrating Nancy’s recovery from ovarian cancer when Michael got the call at the hospital.

Ned Stark.

@NotBadConsidering

I always reconciled Goose’s “death” by believing he actually faked his own death to retrain as a doctor in Chicago with a new name, Mark Greene. Then Mark died and it all fell apart.

I can’t listen to “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” without thinking of him, especially that ukulele version.

Lucy’s stabbing and death was probably the most tense traumatic hour of tv I’ve experienced. Never forgotten it.

I can’t believe I’ve never realised that Mark Greene and Goose are one and the same!! I never watched ER but completely would have recognised him from it. I’m actually stumped!! 🤣🤣🤣
