Fitzchivalry Farseer. (author Robin Hobb)

In the first book he begins as a 6 year old. I read it in 1995 then each new book as they came out over the years.
Reading the final book in 2017 I sobbed through the last few chapters & had to go & have a lie down then read them again later because I was so upset I couldn't really take the words in, but at the same time I couldn't just leave the book until it was finished.

It was the ending it needed, but I was so sad to know I'd never read anything new about him again, even though his story was over so there wasn't really anything left to tell.

Bella2020 · 06/09/2020 23:43

I forgot Rue in the hunger games.

wafflyversatile · 06/09/2020 23:47

Anya from buffy!

In my defence I only watched it for the first time a few weeks ago.

Haggled · 06/09/2020 23:47

Might have already been said but - Hank in Breaking Bad.

SinisterBumFacedCat · 06/09/2020 23:51

Danny in Spooks and Adam Carter

The main characters were always being killed off, I got a bit desensitised to it all by the end.

greybuttons11 · 07/09/2020 00:08

Captain Bush in Hornblower.

yourhairiswinterfire · 07/09/2020 00:39

Hershel from The Walking Dead. Oof, I took it so hard, adored him.

Even though it wasn't an on screen death, Adrian in Rocky. Didn't feel right seeing him without his Yo Adrian 😔

FenellaVelour · 07/09/2020 01:31

Agree with Todd from Neighbours.

Also, around the same time in Home and Away, Donald Fisher’s son, I think he was called Alan. Died of a brain aneurysm. I cried a lot.

Ell2019 · 07/09/2020 01:31

Goose from top gun 😭
Lexi/Stefan/Enzo from vampire diaries
Klaus/Elijah/Hayley from originals
Dobby/Dumbledore/Sirius/Cedric/Fred
Ned/Kat Stark/Hodor/Shereen/Ser Jorah/Missandei Game of thrones

FenellaVelour · 07/09/2020 01:35

Stormy in Odd Thomas (Dean Koontz) - actually hyperventilated a bit at the end of that book.

One book I cannot read without full on weeping is James Patterson’s “Suzanne’s Diary For Nicholas”. I really dislike this author usually but this is completely out of genre for him and it utterly flattened me. I didn’t see what was coming, I started crying when the dog died, and when I realised the “ending” OH MY GOD I felt gut punched. Genuinely the most distressed I’ve ever been while reading a book. Almost unbearable.

drigon · 07/09/2020 01:36

Mine are both otters; Mij in Ring of Bright Water, so shocking. Also, Tarka's son in Tarka the Otter.

VesperLynne · 07/09/2020 01:38

Gertrude in Jilly Cooper’s Score!

Tobebythesea · 07/09/2020 06:04

Derek Shepard. Haven’t watched it since.

Peridot1 · 07/09/2020 06:04

So many of those already mentioned. Also some spoilers for me!

But yes to Jeffrey Tolliver in the Karin Slaughter book. Such a shock.

Shelby in Steel Magnolias - we were living overseas and my best friend and her husband moved to another country. I was devasted. Watched Steel Magnolias the day they left and sobbed and sobbed. DH phoned from work to see how I was and I couldn’t speak I was crying so hard. He came home and couldn’t believe I was crying so hard at a film. I remember sobbing at him “it was all about female friendship”.

Casey Braxton in Home and Away. A year or so after he died I was in Sydney with my best friend from above and we were out for dinner and standing outside the restaurant was the actor who played Casey talking to the actor who played Matt. Both dressed in hoodies and shorts and ‘Matt’ was even carrying a skateboard just like in H&A!
