Another one, (but I think the film might be based on true events) is the boys who are killed in changeling. I had no idea what that fild was going to be about, and I really wish I hadn't watched it.

Ah, Marissa! I was totally gutted. If I watched it now, I reckon I would still cry ...

At school we read a book called Red Sky in the Morning which was told from the point of view of a young teenager who has a new baby brother born with hydrocephaly. He dies at the end and I was in floods of tears in English class, as were most of the class.

The other one that always got me when I was younger was Fred in the Sally Lockhart series (Philip Pullman - always preferred this one to His Dark Materials!)

Oh my god I remember that book! The little brother was called Ben wasn't he?

Scarby9 · 06/09/2020 18:41

Helen in the Inspector Lynley books.
They had both gone through so much and then, just when it was all starting to go right, she was shot.

From the same genre, Morse. Gutted there would be no mote books. But I do like a good episode of Lewis!

30under · 06/09/2020 18:42

Cedric Diggory.
I was so unprepared for the death of a child....

30under · 06/09/2020 18:43

Oh yes and Matthew in Anne of Green Gables,as PP said.

theproudgeek · 06/09/2020 18:44

The death in 'One' by Sarah Crossan.
I sobbed and then went round recommending the book to everyone with a heart.

I wasnt that bothered by Cedric Diggory dying in the book, and even in the film the death itself is so quick that it's not very emotional, it's just like 'ooops, and he's gone'.

It's in the film when Harry comes back with his body and the dad is going 'That's my son! That's my boy!' that makes me 😭😭😭

Totally agree with this, I felt the same 😭

Also, am surprised how many people were arsed about perpetually annoying Marissa cooper... I did cry when trey died tho 🤷🏼‍♀️

FabulouslyFab · 06/09/2020 18:49

Mordin Solus in Mass Effect.

“Had to be me. Someone else might have gotten it wrong.”

No matter how many times I play that I always hope he survives to collect sea shells.

I sobbed when Ryan in The Heights died. I then watched the episode again with my two daughters and sobbed all the way through again.

EssentialHummus · 06/09/2020 19:11

Mommabear20 · 06/09/2020 19:11

Opie winston, dobby the house elf, Kate Todd, all the direwolves!

trappedsincesundaymorn · 06/09/2020 19:12

Mitchell the vampire in Being Human (played by Aiden Turner). He was killed by his friend George (Russel Tovey). The line said by George "I'm doing this because I love you" made me bawl.
