Dobby
Hedwig
Lupin & Tonks
Ginger in Black Beauty
Marissa Cooper from The OC
Kate in My Sister's Keeper
Augustus Waters in The Fault in our Stars
Jackson in A Star is Born
Lady Sybil
Rudy and Liesl's parents in The Book Thief

Ruby Gillis definitely. She would have been ok today with antibiotics. Too young.
Bonnie in Gone with the wind. It haunted me how Rhett sat up with her body as he didn't want to bury her in the dark when she was so afraid of it.
Mog in Goodbye Mog Sad

daytriptovulcan · 06/09/2020 17:52

Thomas Hardy's Tess

GrannyBags · 06/09/2020 17:54

Abraham in Scattered Seed - when he oils the gate for Sarah and she knows it is the last thing he’ll do for her but doesn’t let onus just breaks me.
Jilly Cooper’s Rutshire Chronicles - Billy Lloyd Foxe was a tough one as well. She better not kill off Rupert.

recklessruby · 06/09/2020 17:55

Oh and Lenny in Of Mice and Men.
Theres another thread atm about annoying characters which Curly s Wife ought to be on.

hnhvt · 06/09/2020 17:58

George, Mark, Lexi and Derek.

I don't know how the fuck hurt Shonda Rhimes but they have a lot to answer for.

DidoAtTheLido · 06/09/2020 17:59

Teddy in a God in Ruins

@TheLibraryIsOpen

Granny Weatherwax. A character in a Tad Williams book series on virtual reality (can't remember the name of the character or the book). Yound Dombey in Dombey and Son. Wolf in The Talisman. And many many more.
The Tad Williams book will be Otherland, not sure who the character is, although I would guess it was the young boy with progeria.
FlippinNoah · 06/09/2020 18:04

Hershel in The Walking Dead

RedHelenB · 06/09/2020 18:05

Bonnie in Gone with the wand
The deer in the Yearling
Ruby Gillis and baby Joy in Anne's House of Dreams

Aswad · 06/09/2020 18:06

Shane from the walking dead. I really saw those two as being the best team

howells · 06/09/2020 18:10

Piggy
Lee Scoresby and Hester
Tom Natsworthy and Hester Shaw
Remus Lupin, Fred et al
😢

howells · 06/09/2020 18:11

And Matthew from Anne of Green Gables

MotherofKitties · 06/09/2020 18:13

Granny Wetherwax. I had to put the book down for half an hour to recover and continue with the story. I found her character

SizzleFizzle · 06/09/2020 18:14
  • Lady Sybil. My husband came back at the end of the episode and thought I'd lost a relative.
  • The children in Boy in the Striped Pyjamas (watched it on a plane and the random man next to me was also sobbing)
  • Sirius Black
  • Glenn from TWD
  • Drew from Neighbours

Any child that dies or any adult who dies with some unconsummated love that's been building up for ages.

MotherofKitties · 06/09/2020 18:14

Whoops too soon.

I found her character inspirational and found it very emotionally linked to Terry Pratchets own passing.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 06/09/2020 18:16

So many already mentioned.

Saw a programme years ago where a mother handcuffed and locked her son (about 1) in a cupboard holding his baby sister. She left the house and by the time someone found them the baby was dead. I saw that about 18 yeas ago and it still breaks my heart. Cant remember the name of it though.

Another one that breaks my heart is Nana dying in the Royal family. Its the song and the way the acted it, makes me howl everytime.

Alexandernevermind · 06/09/2020 18:16

Jaws. My little boys sobbed so much when they killed him! His reasoning was Great Whites are endangered and the people deserved to be eaten!

Alicatz66 · 06/09/2020 18:16

Can't share the Harry Potter grief ... Damon in Brookside was way more tragic

Alicatz66 · 06/09/2020 18:18

@Iminaglasscaseofemotion ... Oh Lord .. it was Goodnight Mr Tom ... traumatic ... I can't watch it again ....

FrangipaniBlue · 06/09/2020 18:18

Mufasa.

Sybil and Matthew in Downtown 😢

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 06/09/2020 18:22

@Alicatz66 Thats the one! Traumatised by it and the little boys reaction to the baby being taken away is just heat breaking.

PhilSwagielka · 06/09/2020 18:24

@XenakisCarter

Matthew in Anne of Green Gables
First time I cried at a fictional character’s death, that was.

I’m still not over Ymir in Attack on Titan. That made me rage.
