Summarise in maximum 3 words the performance of the current UK government

@VinylDetective

Nationalised pretty much every industry that was going bust. Reduced the income from taxes by raising them and forcing wealthy people to leave the country. Spend even more money than Rishi Sunak causing a debt crisis. Allow people to not pay rent for years without getting evicted. Stricter lockdown measures to name just a few

This government has effectively nationalised the railways.
This government is going to have to raise taxes to repay the biggest debt since WW2.
This government is presiding over the biggest debt crisis in living memory.

The last two points are pure supposition, what’s your basis for making those assumptions?

I think they will delay the tax rises and force Labour to do it if they win the next election. They will leave them a huge deficit like Labour did to them in 2010. They hate private landlords so I am certain they would would stop evictions. Obviously everything is speculation but I believe they would have had much stricter lockdown measures and many businesses would still not be allowed to reopen.

I’m not sure which universe you live in but on my planet no government can just sit back surveying the chaos they’ve created and do nothing for four years.

Coyoacan · 06/09/2020 17:48

My question is where is the civil service in all this?

Surely the civil service advises and makes most of the important decisions, having a wealth of experience behind it.

They will have a token tax rise here and there to pretend their doing something but ultimately they will pass a massive defecit onto the next Labour government.

The more I read MN, the more I think what a terrible idea universal suffrage is.

Yes 10,000,000 Labour voters is scary enough, we don't want any more.
NotAKaren · 06/09/2020 18:06

It is daft to excuse this governments performance with 'imagine if it was Corbyn in charge'. The fact is they are the ones in charge and they have failed at every turn, not only that they make no apologies for it. They are gaslighting the nation on a daily basis while using the cover of emergency legislation to hand contracts without tender worth millions and millions to their Tory peers and donors. They are an administration without voted in based on slogans and lies about an oven ready Brexit deal yet here we are to the wire with nothing. I cannot even describe how sh** they are.

KeepingPlain · 06/09/2020 18:11

Least he wouldn't be selective on who he shits on..

Not only are they in charge now, but have been for a decade. So many of the issues that have arisen have resulted from their incompetence and underfunding of some services.

Sure they can. . . don't underestimate the laziness, arrogance and incompetence of as ugly a bunch of rogues as ever formed a Government in the UK. . .

Praying for independence.

Sadly predictable thread.

Dithering, incompetent, Dominic

Had to mention DC as he is the biggest influence he is running the party

Same. If only they'd let them have a ref and also let English people vote, I'm sure it would be a done deal.

Brexit before competence. Angry

whyayepetal · 06/09/2020 18:27

Immoral incompetent liars

NellyJames · 06/09/2020 18:31

And it really pisses me off that CV19 will be used a a cover for the economic catastrophe caused by Brexit.

NellyJames · 06/09/2020 18:35

And for everyone saying typical Labour voters-Nope! Plus I know many Tory voters utterly appalled at this shambles.
We have an egotistical narcissist bumbling his way through and FB making it up as he goes along. Populism at its worst.

NellyJames · 06/09/2020 18:36

Not sure where the FB came from.

GetOffYourHighHorse · 06/09/2020 18:45

'We have an egotistical narcissist bumbling his way through'

Why do you think this? The NHS had millions chucked at it and coped with the surge in April unlike many European countries, Scotland has a much higher care home death rate than England despite having a less dense population. The exam carry on was the same in Wales and that is Labour run.

I'm not a Boris fan girl but the support for businesses and employees has been comprehensive. I don't get why people think they've done so badly yet Sturgeon gets praise from her cheerleading nats for doing worse.

Literally the only member of the government who seems even half competent and sympathetic is Sunak I wouldn't go on his press conferences! He's been well trained there! Look at his background and previous actions.

I definitely don't think all those relying will be labour voters!

I've voted labour at times but not every time, very much a floating voter just never voted Tory and never will, and there are many voters of all colours on these boards.

Being anti Tory =/= necessarily labour voter!

My question is where is the civil service in all this? they can advise but they can't make legislation, contrary to "yes minister" they don't actually run the country (though they possibly should!)

Not only are they in charge now, but have been for a decade. So many of the issues that have arisen have resulted from their incompetence and underfunding of some services. absolutely! They can't continue blaming labour!

They've had chance after chance to rectify the claimed mistakes (New) labour made and merely compounded the worst ones!

In recent months I've seen the staunch, lifelong Tory voters on my fb feed (people I know in real life not randoms) go from blind optimism, to quietly unsupportive to outright critical - I say again lifelong voters in their 50's plus it is NOT just labour voters angry and frightened at how they've NOT handled things this year
