@KatherineJaneway - of all the defences of this government, this is the one I hate the most. Trying their best is an absolute minimum requirement. This isn't an U11s school football match.
Then go into politics yourself as you clearly have all the answers.

Missed Italy’s Warning

It’s easy to criticise with the benefit of hindsight. However, we were on a similar Covid trajectory to Italy, but two or three weeks behind them. We could practically see the future. Did the UK government change course immediately and avert disaster? Not really, no. Most other countries did a better job.

Poppadumpony · 07/09/2020 00:50

Bunch of criminals

bumblingbovine49 · 07/09/2020 08:22

bumblingbovine49 - how can you measure that? Labour haven't been in power for over 10 years.

@luckylavender
I feel I have as much evidence for saying labour would have been better than our current government as those who say they would have been worse. My comment was slightly tongue in cheek but also with an element of irritation with the poster who said ' better than labour'.

It is absolutely not possible to say if labour would have been better or worse but if someone states that they wouldhave been worse, I will put my opposing opinion. Both those statments are based on nothing more than personal opinion with no real evidence really. Somewhat childish I know but there you are Blush

'Missed Italy’s Warning'

Italy's allegedly superior health service in the north was totally overwhelmed. So, critical care in this country had millions chucked at it. Staff from other areas all redeployed to assist, I think we can safely say we didnt miss Italy's warnings. The fact our NHS coped and nobody was ventilated in corridors is completely and conveniently overlooked by the media and mn it appears. NHS staff were put up in hotels for weeks if they had high risk relatives.

Care home deaths are a tragedy but did people expect then to stay in a hospital where the risk was higher? The care home owners should have isolated discharged patients as they would have anyone being discharged from a hospital with any infection outbreak. I wonder why the MSM arent going after the Mercedes driving care home owners and ask them why they didn't.

Posters on this thread can't even decide if lockdown was too long or not long enough. Whoever was in charge would have done exactly the same while acting on the same scientific evidence, just like ThankyouNicola.

contrmary · 07/09/2020 08:59

Better than Corbyn.

luckylavender · 07/09/2020 09:17

@bumblingbovine49 - top response, thank you

VinylDetective · 07/09/2020 10:14

The 'scandal' is care homes did not implement isolation nursing effectively. If I had a relative and I hadn't thought or been able to look after them at home until the crisis was over my fury would be aimed at the care home owners, not Government

The scandal was that people weren’t tested before being discharged to care homes. If they had Covid, they weren’t fit for discharge.

'The scandal was that people weren’t tested before being discharged to care homes. If they had Covid, they weren’t fit for discharge.'

Yes because there wasn't the testing capacity at that stage. So testing was obviously prioritised for the sickest, not those fit for discharge. Guidance said it was safe to discharge as long as infection prevention and control measures were in place. A nursing home should have managed this they have often have outbreaks of other infectious diseases. Isolate discharged patients for 14 days. It should have been straightforward.

Some didn't though, in many cases they failed. In the inquiries that will follow I hope care home owners are held to account as well as the Government.
