Summarise in maximum 3 words the performance of the current UK government

It don't think this is about right-wing or left-wing, but about sheer incompetence with a dash of corruption.

SacreBleeurgh · 06/09/2020 20:34

No democracy anymore.

@GetOffYourHighHorse

'Stop blaming PHE for political decisions'

PHE seemed to be best suited to advising on nora virus outbreaks in schools or telling people to go on diets.

The biggest pandemic in decades showed up their woeful planning and lack of capability. So yes, I will blame them for the testing cock up. Anyway, they're being disbanded so hopefully the new organisation will ensure better preparedness.

The government is in charge of PHE. Johnson keen to.blame them of course, an easy scapegoat.

Surprised you've fallen for it.

The decision not to prepare for a pandemic after the trial run showed problems - government. Decision to run down ppe stocks - government. Decision to give test and trace to a close friend instead of experienced public health teams - government. Etc.

skankingpiglet · 06/09/2020 20:44

Incompetent morally-bankrupt shitshow.

Wrongdecider · 06/09/2020 20:45

Are they going to stop funding shitshows like Healthwatch England?

Such a waste of public money. Barely anyone knows who they are.... still. Hmm

Anyway, that’s my rant over Blush

guilttripjourno · 06/09/2020 20:48

Nothing can be done for the next 4 years. Even next term I think Tories will win comfortably.

@luckylavender Yes i suspected the photo of Diane Abbott's shoes was photoshopped as it was only reported by the crappest papers like the Telegraph, Express and Mail.
So we had a Tory voter who was unable to think of any positive words about the government but instead had to resort to mocking Diane Abbott's shoes which she never actually wore but were faked by shit papers.

@GetOffYourHighHorse

Pls stop defending the tories, they commissioned a pandemic exercise, then ignored its recommendations.

But the biggest scandal is allowing CV to enter care homes, from January, WHO told us CV affected the elderly the most and they ignored this, despite seeing what happened in Europe.

If there was any justice in world the Govt would be on trial for this alone.

Dohorseseatapples · 06/09/2020 21:33

A quick photographic reminder of our esteemed leader (since a couple of MN Tories on here mentioned Diane Abbott upthread).

'But the biggest scandal is allowing CV to enter care homes, from January, WHO told us CV affected the elderly the most and they ignored this, despite seeing what happened in Europe.'

Patients were discharged from hospital where the risk was high. Should they have kept them in the acute setting for 6 months?! Privately owned care homes failed to barrier nurse/isolate patients discharged from hospital effectively, why? The rich others pay their staff peanuts, perhaps the owners should accept some responsibility?

Again, Scotland has the highest care home death rate in the UK. A small population with a fraction of England's density. Where is the outrage for #ThankyouNicola?

Downton57 · 06/09/2020 21:57

@GetIffYourHighHorse Are you sure of your facts? "According to NRS data 45% of Covid-19 deaths registered up to 1st May in Scotland were in care homes. However, in England and Wales, an official count by the Office of National Statistics (ONS) says that up to 1 May there had been 8,312 deaths in care homes in England and Wales where coronavirus was written on the death certificate. On the face of it, this represents only a quarter of all deaths associated with the virus to that point.

The problem is that elderly people in care homes are often transferred to hospitals when they contract Covid-19 symptoms. Sadly, many subsequently die. So the true number of deaths from care home residents must include those dying in hospital. When those are added to the ONS figure of 8,312 deaths actually occurring on care home premises, the cumulative fatalities in England and Wales relating to care home residents was a third higher at 12, 526 between 2 March and 1 May. That is some 40% of all Covid-19 deaths in England and Wales – much closer to the Scottish number.
However, the same ONS data shows that 23,136 more care home residents died than in the same period last year – while only 12,526 are registered this year as being directly caused by Covid-19. Which suggests that the English and Welsh care home fatality figure is being grossly under-reported."

thecatsatonthewall · 06/09/2020 22:05

@GetOffYourHighHorse Who regulates care homes? yep the Govt, who sets min pay rates? yep the Govt. who told care homes that CV wasn't any issue for them? Yep the ........ !

Who decided to empty hospital of the elderly without a CV test? yep the Govt.

The buck stops with the head of any organisation and that is Boris Johnson, who is the PM of the United Kingdom.

GetOffYourHighHorse · 06/09/2020 22:07

'The problem is that elderly people in care homes are often transferred to hospitals when they contract Covid-19 symptoms. Sadly, many subsequently die. '

Well yes that is sadly true. However the pp said it was a scandal that cv had been 'allowed' to enter care homes as if the nhs should have kept the patients indefinitely. Patients needed to be discharged if they were fit.

The 'scandal' is care homes did not implement isolation nursing effectively. If I had a relative and I hadn't thought or been able to look after them at home until the crisis was over my fury would be aimed at the care home owners, not Government.

Downton57 · 06/09/2020 22:22

So basically, the care home fiasco was a disaster which affected elderly people in care homes all over the UK, but the resulting deaths were more honestly reported in Scotland than in England and Wales. Dishonest, corrupt bawbags are my three words for the current UK government.

Mumratheevergiving · 06/09/2020 22:54

Two policy documents in March and April set out that care homes should accept patients that were untested, or worse still, positive for Covid

www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2020/06/03/government-faces-prospect-judicial-review-policy-move-covid/

Poor old Government, if only care homes, PHE & Ofqual had followed their advice...

Still waiting to see a 3 word ringing endorsement. Seems no-one can actually bring themselves to champion these chancers and incompetents.
