To think there are no good baptism gifts for boys?

I'm being godmother for a primary age boy and I have no idea what to get him. In the past for other children I've bought piece of jewellery or a Noah's ark type toy or picture but he's too old for that!

Any ideas for good gifts would be gratefully received! Thanks!

Some religious symbol like a cross or a children's bible.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 05/09/2020 10:59

Books.
Money for a savings account.
Pen (to save until he's a bit older if necessary)

OwlinaTree · 05/09/2020 11:00

Children's Bible could work, thank you.

Classic books?

Dugsbollox · 05/09/2020 11:00

A child's bible, or Sunday missal, money for savings accounts? PS4 gift card? Grin

OwlinaTree · 05/09/2020 11:00

Pen is a nice idea, thank you. He does like reading so could get a voucher perhaps.

Have you seen Bob Hartman’s rhyming bible? That’s worth a look, my kids love it.

dollypartonscoat · 05/09/2020 11:03

Robux Grin

Herja · 05/09/2020 11:05

Are they actually religious, or is it for secondary school purposes?

If religious, I would go with a childrens bible and prayer book, with £20 tucked inside. If not really religious, I'd just go with the cash.

What age is the child? Mine rather enjoyed the Usborne children's bible until they were about 6/7. It would look a bit babyish for older than that though.

TW2013 · 05/09/2020 11:05

Nativity set maybe. Even my secondary school age children like setting it up but don't need to play with it to enjoy it.

beany5 · 05/09/2020 11:05

I bought my nephew a personalised wooden photo frame. It has his name engraved along with the date of baptism and the church name. Its gorgeous. I had been gifted one previously for my own children and loved it so much. It's always out on display to remember the day while most other christening gifts are long gone to be honest. Not sure if I am allowed to put the details on here but if you pm me I can give you the name of the online shop where I bought mine.

I bought my godson solid silver cuff links with his initials engraved on then, classic plain design, might be useful when he’s an adult.

Flatpackback · 05/09/2020 11:10

Some nativity sets are beautiful, I’d go with that. It doesn’t matter whether they are religious or not and I’m sure they’ll enjoy the ritual of setting it up every Christmas for years to come.

JanewaysBun · 05/09/2020 11:10

Ime the Desmond tutu book normally gets given to the child from the vicar so wouldn't get that one but a different bible book is nice.

MrsApplepants · 05/09/2020 11:10

I should say he was a baby when christened so maybe that’s a bit different, his mum has put them away for him.

Elisheva · 05/09/2020 11:12

How about the Lego bible? Or the Minecraft bible? Depending on what he’s into.

AliTheMinx · 05/09/2020 11:12

Premium Bonds?

StCharlotte · 05/09/2020 11:12

I bought my similar age godson a money box in the shape of a tractor - we lived in an agricultural village - with some money in it.

OwlinaTree · 05/09/2020 11:13

Thank you for all the great ideas. I love the rhyming Bible that seems right for him. He's not being christened for secondary school.

I also got my godson some handmade silver cuff links with his initials on. I was really pleased with them.

aToadOnTheWhole · 05/09/2020 11:19

Rhyming bible it's for older kids and is illustrated

The action bible Aimed at about 10+ bit would mean he gets more use out of it. There's also an Action bible colouring book.

Book token.
