To think there are no good baptism gifts for boys?

I'm being godmother for a primary age boy and I have no idea what to get him. In the past for other children I've bought piece of jewellery or a Noah's ark type toy or picture but he's too old for that!

Any ideas for good gifts would be gratefully received! Thanks!

Bit of an odd one.
Premium bonds?

seayork2020 · 05/09/2020 13:26

Ds got a silver money box

Nacreous · 05/09/2020 13:29

My brother got a pocket watch.

TheFormerPorpentinaScamander · 05/09/2020 13:29

My brothers both had St Christopher's for their baptisms. They never wore them but they had them.

unchienandalusia · 05/09/2020 13:37

My DS got

A bible
Cudflinks
Silver tankard
Pen
Silver cuff links box

All lovely stuff he'll keep forever. I don't think of christening gifts as something like a toy they'll enjoy now?

Skigal86 · 05/09/2020 14:14

When my daughter was christened she was given a really lovely children’s bible by the church, so it might be a consideration if the church he’s being christened at does the same. She had some really lovely gifts, silver photo frame, money box, gorgeous personalised book ends, premium bonds, valuable coins but I guess a lot of them wouldn’t be suitable for someone his age.

@beany5

I bought my nephew a personalised wooden photo frame. It has his name engraved along with the date of baptism and the church name. Its gorgeous. I had been gifted one previously for my own children and loved it so much. It's always out on display to remember the day while most other christening gifts are long gone to be honest. Not sure if I am allowed to put the details on here but if you pm me I can give you the name of the online shop where I bought mine.
That's such a lovely idea.

Storing that one up for any special events I attend in the future!

Silver train money box (he's obsessed with trains!)

Soubriquet · 05/09/2020 14:25

See for a baby, I got my cousins son a silver utensil set with his name written on them

Were very much appreciated.

But I like the the suggestions up above

OwlinaTree · 05/09/2020 14:28

Some great ideas, thank you. I like the cufflinks idea too. I did think of a St Christopher.

Cutlery with his name engraved on it

cologne4711 · 05/09/2020 14:48

A gold sovereign (expensive though, it might have to be a 1/2 or 1/4 depending on your budget).

Baaaahhhhh · 05/09/2020 14:52

We've bought expensive bottles of wine, the kind you put down for 20 years, and then either drink or sell for investment.

BackforGood · 05/09/2020 14:58

Does deend on your budget, but I'd say

Children's Bible, or Minecraft bible
DEfinitely a nativity set, if you are wealthy enough - that is something they will use and treasure way after the children's bible gets to gather dust on a shelf
Photo frame with the date of the Christening on it, with their name

Premium Bonds - definitely appreciated later - but you have to buy £100 for the initial purchase I think.

flowerycurtain · 05/09/2020 15:44

I get my godsons a bottle of port from the closest vintage year to their birthday

BlackeyedSusan · 05/09/2020 16:26

minecraft bible or action bible look good.

merryhouse · 05/09/2020 16:52

I got my sons each a keyring featuring the pectoral cross of the local saint.

They also got a music copy of the hymn book the church uses, though that was partly because the choir was short of them!

I feel obliged to mention (though I confess I have not actually read it - it was after our occasion, and possibly even prompted by it!) The Teenage Prayer Experiment, written by our former vicar:
