AIBU to think Lauren Goodger needs help and filters are dangerous

As above, there have been new pics of LG today looking different, possibly new surgery or possibly backgrid have gone too far with their tweeks. I'm not interested in her life before anyone starts that and she can have as much surgery as she likes as long as she can mentally cope with it.

..and thats where my AIBU sits. Do you think girls like LG are promoting unacceptable physical attainment by constantly filtering and messing with their pics? I'm really wary of filters and not because I don't need them (see username) but because I think they mess with your head.

She's not a well lady. She cannot be. It's the nightmare that never goes away for her really.

I do think she is a little deluded though.

FizzyPink · 03/09/2020 18:10

It’s really really sad how normal using all of these filters have become and it’s so damaging for young girls to be shown these totally fake images.

Another one that does it is Lorna Luxe, constant warping in the background of her videos and images where she’s made her legs/face/arms thinner. You’d never recognise her if you actually saw her in real life.

SallyMullally · 03/09/2020 18:22

I suppose calling Kylie Jenner ‘plain’ was mean. I didn’t mean to be, I was just pointing out that I don’t understand why anyone, even young girls, buys in to this complete delusion?!

You see a picture of Lauren Goodger one day looking like a n average size 16 girl but has done some weird things to her lips and bottom. That’s the reality. A nice looking normal woman who has deformed herself. Then the next day she posts a filtered photo to Instagram showing a 22 inch waist and doll-like face. Kylie Jenner is the same. Looks totally different without all the filters.

I find it very strange, like the Emperors New Clothes.

Menora · 03/09/2020 18:22

This is not really just a filter problem as you can tell when something is a snapchat filter and someone has no pores and no nose and a shiny halo. It’s a major photo editing problem because they also completely edit their whole body, pulling their legs and waists in and making everything symmetrical, editing all of their skin so they are no longer real at all. I’ve messed with one of these apps and it is amazing what you can do. You can give yourself a whole face or make up! You only have to look at a pap photo of LG to see how far the editing goes on her whole body and skin. There was a Japanese or Chinese vlogger who got caught catfishing all of her audience as she was a completely different much older lady behind a real time video filter of a younger sexy young lady - the filter moved away or glitched and she was caught out. The Aubrey O’Day situation seems quite bad, her IG comments are absolutely awful right now. I agree that Kylie Jenner just looks like a normal young 21yo with no make up on, but in her IG posts she looks like an ethereal barbie doll

They really need to pass this law about advertising whether something is edited I think it’s really important - photo editing is so subtle and sometimes so good, it’s easy to start to believe that everyone is poreless ethereal large eyed large hipped Disney dolls

Beaniebeemer · 03/09/2020 18:54

IMO Mark Wright did her no favours. Him then going off and marrying Michelle must have been a bit of a kick in the teeth.... Lauren was pretty but Michelle was in a totally different league on so many levels (not just looks) I mean that in the nicest possible way. She needs help though, all the filters and surgery is in no way healthy.

Barrowmanfan22 · 03/09/2020 18:56

I feel sorry for her. I don't think all celebrities necessarily need to be a role model and just because she is in the public eye she is allowed to have issues which she clearly does. The editing of childhood photos and the constant reference to her relationship with Mark are awful. I watched her in CBB and she clearly had mental health issues and issues with alcohol.

I think it’s hugely sad. But Jesse from little mix has a very similar look, and did that whole documentary on anti-bullying and asking people not to judge her / comment on her looks.

Which is hard, when these women are doing so much to their looks which draws comment

I can't help feeling sad that she felt the need to change her looks, too. She was way more attractive before, but obviously let the bullies get under her skin. It's a real shame.

Slippersandgin · 03/09/2020 20:14

The Daily Mail and similar don’t help when their headlines are about celebs “WOWS in her skimpy bikini FLAUNTING toned BODY”

Sad
Covert20 · 03/09/2020 20:16

Most people use fillers?! 😂 not anyone I know

SentientAndCognisant · 03/09/2020 20:20

Lauren has a troubled & turbulent relationship with media
She’s a naturally pretty woman who unfortunately seems to be insecure about her appearance
Plus she gets a lot of online derision that’ll make her feel bad

Same. Maybe the poster is in her 20s and has a lifestyle where looks are valued above everything else.
SentientAndCognisant · 03/09/2020 20:26

There are school WAGs who’ve had work done. Glamorous housewives

Jessy spoke on that documentary as though she was 'better when in fact all she had done is lost weight to fit with a mould. I saw something about her current boyfriend and she was moaning that he was having McDonalds or something and she was having fish and vegetables. It showed she wasn't well and sounded like the girl in How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days that would tell her boyfriend how little she ate that day like it was a badge of honour Confused

Lauren Goodger has unfortunately has an onscreen unravelling and a very public private life that’s marked habitually by deadbeat guy. TOWIE was how she came to prominence and it’s hardly known for its cerebral content . Actually I think she’s had all her insecurities magnified and she’s typecast as the also-ran who couldn’t hold onto mark wright. Mark Her significant ex (dated since they were 14yo) has gone on to a successful career and happy marriage . Lauren has not progressed, still has the prefix of mark wright ex. Her whole career has been built on drama and flouncing. No one watches Towie to see quiet reflection and building emotional resilience.
TOWIE Viewers want (and get) plastic titted drama. Lauren to get paid, maintain her brand has to be a demanding diva

Regard her appearance, she’s a naturally attractive woman who clearly has self esteem issues and associates glamour with happiness. If I have one more tweak, tuck I’ll be happy...except she isn’t

Unfortunately her drama and notoriety (she’s off the telly, innit) attracts a certain type of man. The relationship don’t last, she’s unhappy, thinks another tweak a tuck that’ll sort me. On it goes

She’s a easy target. Not very articulate, very emotional, insecure and poring to getting things very wrong

Hellishcrusade · 03/09/2020 21:21

Jesy Nelson is a good comparison really because she is successful in a way Lauren isn't but that's what she seems to aspire to without realising it won't make her happier, if anything it'd be far worse for her but she just wouldn't see it.
I think she's very very insecure about her body, she wants to be the size 0 model and that's all she can focus on and hates herself because she can't obtain it. This is why it's so sad that she doesn't seem to have a good support system, she leaves herself so open to trolling and nastiness because she's editing her photos in a way that distorts her body and she thinks looks good but everyone can see from other photos it's just not true. She has fairly broad shoulders, a wide ribcage which is so obviously still there when she posts photos in a bikini sucking her stomach in so much she'd never be able to breathe out and wide hips with a slim waist. If she embraced the figure she HAS, rather than the one she WANTS she'd look bloody amazing. I think that's another reason she's so bitter about Mark and Michelle, he went for what she isn't. It makes me so sad because it's only her own problems stopping her being happy, like so many beautiful women.

That's a good point, just about every article about her mentions she's Mark Wright's ex, but nothing that's written about him ever mentions her. That would be hard to take.
kursaalflyer · 03/09/2020 21:33

Just looked at some pictures of Michelle Keegan and no idea why she would want to tamper with her natural look. In some photos her lips look dreadful with that tell-tale shadow on the upper lip. Who pressures these women? Who undermines their self-esteem? Again, very sad.

SentientAndCognisant · 03/09/2020 21:55

Who pressures these women? Who undermines their self-esteem? intrinsic & extrinsic factors

It is most likely internal intrinsic eg mood, personality, resilience and extrinsic eg media, peer group, job pressures, insecurities, family

CorianderLord · 04/09/2020 00:19

You should see Chloë Ferry

Redraptor · 04/09/2020 06:48

What chloe ferry has done to herself is really sad. I went down a rabbit hole a few weeks ago and ended up on the instanoage of the dr who does these celeb butt lifts and it was so so sad to see.

Chloe's best friend however, bethan, looks amazing and is proud to show off her "bigger" body.

These women have the lowest self esteem and it's so sad. A horrible horrible cycle of self loathing. And these only fans accounts are not helping the situation.

userxx · 04/09/2020 07:21

For my sins I used to watch Geordie Shore years ago, she looks like a completely different person these days. It's crazy.

Emeraldshamrock · 04/09/2020 08:00

Michelle Keegan is definitely following behind tweaking her face.
They see the longterm effects on celebrities like Katie price yet keep going.

justanotherneighinparadise · 04/09/2020 08:26

Reality television brought in lots of average looking people and plotted them alongside models and actresses. In the era of Jade Goody this was fine, she was lauded for her personality and whilst the press enjoyed the opportunity to lambast her for her weight, she played them at their game and made a fortune.

Now though the reality TV ‘stars’ are one a penny. They are trying to keep themselves relevant using social media and those are often platforms that are full of slimmer, prettier, more successful women. I can remember on Botched one of the women said that every time she had cosmetic surgery done she received a surge in likes and thus earned more money. So it’s completely addictive and the cosmetic surgery companies offer treatment for free, so it’s not even prohibitive price wise.
