Not sure what to think about these

As yet, H and M haven’t started making skirts for boys, so not sure when these would be worn, apart from under trousers for added warmth?

OP posts:
EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 02/09/2020 18:33

probably intended for layering?

BaconsLaw · 02/09/2020 18:34

My son would probably love them.

Lockheart · 02/09/2020 18:34

Does it matter?

shreddednips · 02/09/2020 18:36

My DS wears tights under his trousers in cool weather. Stops him pulling his socks off.

Engagedlady · 02/09/2020 18:37

They've been selling these for years. I bought some car and dinosaurs ones for my now 6year old when he was a baby/toddler.

They worked really well under trousers, for that stage when they never keep socks on.

Also great for layering on cold days with unlined trousers.

Why should girls get all the warmth?

ilikebooksandplants · 02/09/2020 18:37

Kilts? They’re kind of skirts for boys.

They’re too cute anyway. They could wear them with shorts on a chilly day.

Roseburn · 02/09/2020 18:39

Great idea. My sons wear my leggings under trousers on cold days and for sports and boating and such like. Eminently sensible.

PuffinShop · 02/09/2020 18:40

In the Nordic countries tights are not a particularly gendered item of clothing. H&M is a Swedish brand.

Boys and girls, especially when young, both wear tights under trousers to keep warm in winter. Babies and toddlers also often wear just a bodysuit and tights at home / inside, like just casual wear.

My kids both wore pretty much exclusively tights, no socks, for the first two years and I have a boy and a girl. If the climate suits, they are much better than socks because they can't fall off or be pulled off.

Hollyhead · 02/09/2020 18:41

Mine always worse tights under trousers until potty trained.

I don’t know why you say they’re for boys though? I can’t see a penis slot? So I think they’re unisex.

Reenskar · 02/09/2020 18:42

I’ve always used them for my 2. Perfect for layering in winter and no lost socks.

Shesellsseashellsontheseashore · 02/09/2020 18:42

My son is 6 now but when he was a baby I bought him navy with red stars baby tights to wear under his trousers. It used to keep him totally focused trying to pull them off Grin

PuffinShop · 02/09/2020 18:43

Besides which the ones you linked could just as easily be used by a little girl who likes Paw Patrol or diggers.

Thesearmsofmine · 02/09/2020 18:46

I have 3 sons and all have worn tights as babies and toddlers. My eldest is nearly 10 so it’s not a new thing. They are great for the stages where they pull everything off of their feet.

RogueV · 02/09/2020 18:46

What’s the problem
They’re great
My brother now 43 used to wear tights, my mother has pics to prove it!

HamishDent · 02/09/2020 18:47

Probably because they are listed under the clothing section for boys?

juglover2008 · 02/09/2020 18:48

Mine all wore tights under thier trousers as they can't then pull them off like socks

alexdgr8 · 02/09/2020 18:50

long johns are thought of as a male garment, i have seen long janes ! for women.
these are not much different.
also i notice boys/men wear what look like black tights for football practice, with shorts on top.

haveagoodyear · 02/09/2020 18:51

Boys wear dress-type clothing in other cultures so what's wrong with tights?

They're a practical solution against the cold.

MilkTwoSugarsThanks · 02/09/2020 18:51

DS always wore tights when we went to the Wacky Warehouse.

SimonJT · 02/09/2020 18:53

Tights are great for under trousers, they’re also great under short dungarees. My son wore them in cold weather until he was four, until then it was hard to find long socks to wear under trousers.

Tights are only gendered in certain places, my boyfriend wears them in cold weather as they’re just as warm as a base layer but fit under trousers easier. Hes from Sweden and most men wear tights in cold weather.

CaptainMyCaptain · 02/09/2020 18:53

Yes, known as Base layers.
I also have heard of men who work outdoors, like market traders or builders, wearing tights for warmth. That was some time ago, maybe they wear Base layers now.

explodingwatermelon · 02/09/2020 18:54

OP. I have it on very good authority that the Army wear tights (ladies thick cotton ones if you really need to know) under their trousers when out on the moors in winter.
They fit tight to legs so wont rub if worn under trousers, lightweight, dry quickly and are perfect for layering under socks to stop boots rubbing on long marches.

And knowing some of the army guys that I do, if they made tights with diggers/paw patrol on for adults then they would wear them too. It's almost like a reverse macho thing going on sometimes.

IHateCoronavirus · 02/09/2020 18:54

Mine all wore tights as an extra layer. Eldest DS not far off 15 (definitely wouldn’t wear them now though) I offered him a pair of my leggings for under his jeans on a particularly cold day last winter and he looked as though I’d just killed the cat!

BertieBotts · 02/09/2020 18:56

It's because H&M is Swedish, in Sweden (and many European countries) tights are considered unisex in childhood.

In the German equivalent of Boots I can walk in and buy blue tights aplenty with space, train, car, truck designs all I want.

PablosHoney · 02/09/2020 19:04

My son had superman ones when he was a toddler.
