Am just watching an old Masterchef episode and one of the contestants is doing Greek food that I’ve never heard of.
It also got me thinking about when a friend cooked me something called pinacculty (if that’s how it’s spelled)?

No one has said a faggot and pea batch yet. I absolutely loved one of these when I was a kid. This was a typical Saturday lunch or grabbed after going to watch a footy match.

I lived in Stoke On Trent for a while and fell in love with oat cakes - best served smothered in cheese and brown sauce with crispy bacon.

This thread is making me so hungry!

Creamola foam is so hard to describe! It's sort of a sherbet concoction a powder that you added water to and it made a soda type drink that was its intended use but many also just ate it as it was like you would a sherbet dip? Or even as a cake topping.

The most fun we had though was mixing in a little space dust, making up the drink and serving to someone unsuspecting Grin

I’d forgotten about Cremona foam. It used to come in a tin and you had to prize the lid off with a teaspoon. If I drank it too quickly it’s foaminess would come down my nose.

I think you could say the same about a lot of comfort foods, when you eat them in front of the fire and it's miserable outside Grin

Some other specialties I remembered:

  • breaded chicken liver and heart, deep fried
  • stollen - xmas bread with loads of marzipan
  • norwegian apple pie - way more sugar than needed on the top and slightly caramelized
  • strudel

@BitOfANameChange It's a rite of passage at school in Melton to learn to make a pork pie! I have to say I'm not a lover of Stilton on its own either. Love it as a sauce on steak though.

Yorkies with gravy.
Curd tarts.
Parkin with Wensleydale ( though any slightly acidic crumbly cheese is good).
I'd have said fat rascals until Betty's appropriated and patented them: bastards!
Fruit cake with cheese.

From my DM family further north: leek pudding.

DS made a pork pie for his Food Tech GCSE. It was actually quite good.

The best Stilton sauce I had was at the Black Horse in Grimston.

Where I'm from, pea fritters, potato scallops with pea wet or black pudding.

Where I live, chicken and mealie pie and another vote for butteries.

Can't have any of the above due to gallstones and it's killing me to read this thread.

My hometown inhabitants are known as pie eaters.
Builders vans have stickers on saying "no pies are left in this vehicle overnight".
Also Uncle Joe's mint balls.
Lobbies.
Wigan kebabs (pies in a barm cake).

I remember getting it as a child but I have not seen any for ages (I was 9 when I was dragged kicking and screaming to the wrong side of the pennines).

Oh and stand pie - basically a pork pie that would feed a family of 8.
