Sister not wanting to self isolate

My sister has just returned from a two month holiday in Bulgaria (her husband is Bulgarian) but is refusing to self isolate for 14d. Bulgaria is on the list of countries that you need to self isolate. I’m so angry at the moment at her selfish attitude. She says she need to pop out for food... my argument is she can buy it online and get it delivered the same day/ she should have thought about this before going on her holiday ! She could have put a few pizzas, bread and milk in the freezer. Anyway I’m not on talking terms right now and she’s telling me I’m over reacting and insecure for feeling like this !
Surely I’m not !

She could have booked a delivery slot for Tesco and get it delivered the same day. I checked!!! She lives in London and I don’t! I’m a 2 hr dive away hence why I’m not buying her food

@1234Julia

I think it was the "I checked!!!!" That led me to believe that you were doing just that "checking", not "helping" 🤔

@Corona Anyways what has this got to do with someone not self isolating which is the reason I raised this post? You’ve clearly lost the plot

Steer clear of your sister for 14 days, sounds easy enough if you are 2 hrs away. And if you have elderly parents, ssk that she stay away from them. And tell them not to invite her or let her in...it is far too risky for them as high fatalities in elderly. I agree that it is utterly selfish...the virus will be with us for such a long time if people like your sister don't follow the rules.

DP has a barber that he's been going to for almost 20 years. This man is from Albania and every year spends the summer there. He was going to cut DPs hair earlier than the quarantine period and my first response was anger that DP would even consider being so stupid. Then I realised that everyone is mixing so much now anyway, it probably makes no difference. I have no idea how badly affected Albania is but I assume the barber is more like to catch from us than us from him. Either way he is now waiting but honestly I don't think many people care anymore.

Wifeofbikerviking · 20/09/2020 07:41

I would also be annoyed but I'm not surprised. You dont get any pay sitting at home for 2weeks. Even crappy sick pay is a pittance for those who qualify. I think lots of people wont isolate

Uraflutteringcunt · 20/09/2020 07:42

I think she sounds like a total dickhead tbh. I’d be pleased you weren’t speaking OP. People like this are the ones who give you colds, nits, etc

Uraflutteringcunt · 20/09/2020 07:48

honestly I don't think many people care anymore.

It’s really sad and selfish that people are prioritising haircuts over the NHS, the people that work for the NHS, elderly and sheilded people, and children returning to schools.

Lots of people do care. The ones who want to get out of this disaster. The ones who do this kind of “everyone else is being an careless arsehole, green light for me to be a careless arsehole too” are the ones prolonging it.

Dillydallyingthrough · 20/09/2020 07:58

She should isolate, YANBU this is exactly one of the reasons the numbers are rising. Recently I've read two news reports were failure to isolate has caused a mini spike of 100's, i think it was Bolton and somewhere in Wales.

SionnachGlic · 20/09/2020 08:27

The new fine might make people think twice. I hope it has teeth & is enforced

BananaLlamaConCalma · 20/09/2020 09:50

@Uraflutteringcunt I completely agree with you but I can see why people are getting fed up.

MynephewR · 20/09/2020 10:22

I don't understand why you're not on speaking terms with her? Could you not have just said "I disagree with what you're doing because of x y z" and then got on with your life rather than falling out with her?

Stop this nonsense. They are turning us against each other. This virus would only clear up if the world lockdowns all together for years where no one has contact with the outside world. This means no working for years, no tourism and no economy. If we can't live like that which we can't afford, then don't make a fuss out of it as we should learn to live with it. While all businesses have nearly opened up and are making some sort of money, I'm not making any and about to close my business because of this stupid rule as there are no tourists. I've worked very hard and sacrificed a lot! This virus isn't going anywhere and we must learn to live with it, without turning against each other. If people don't follow the rules then the gov is responsible to find another solution. The government isn't finding any solution apart from putting restrictions and working on a vaccine that is not going to work for everyone.

Yesterday has been the happiest day of my life since this lockdown. In London, everyone was out eating, drinking and shopping just like a typical saturday. I for one won't change anything for this type of normality. Take care of your hygiene, wear your mask when required and carry on.
