School tomorrow - yes or no?

I’m posting here for traffic. DH hasn’t been well. I personally don’t think it’s Covid from his symptoms I think it’s a urine infection as it hurts when he pees. He went for a test today to be on the safe side but it will be at least tomorrow before we get the results back. The thing is DD is due to start back at school tomorrow. I don’t have any symptoms either and DD (7) is full of beans. Do I send her tomorrow or wait until the results have come back?

Wait for the results

alphabetsoup1980 · 31/08/2020 17:55

Wait for test results xx

stepbackfromthecircles · 31/08/2020 17:56

If you are waiting for a test result then you need to isolate until you get the answer. Sorry, I know that isn't what you will want to hear but 2020 is the year of disappointments.

Todaythiscouldbe · 31/08/2020 17:56

Does he have any Corona virus symptoms at all?

Florencex · 31/08/2020 17:57

Why did he go for a test for that?

Useruseruserusee · 31/08/2020 17:57

He must have some Covid symptoms to have been able to get a test? If so you need to wait for the results.

GreyishDays · 31/08/2020 17:58

What time did you go for the test today? Ours are coming back same day.

Separate point, are you also seeing the GP for the UTI?

Racoonworld · 31/08/2020 18:00

Wait for the test. But it’s possible you’ll get results today.

TheSeedsOfADream · 31/08/2020 18:00

What are his Coronavirus symptoms?

vanillandhoney · 31/08/2020 18:00

Why did he get a test if he doesn't have any symptoms of COVID?

EZA15 · 31/08/2020 18:06

He went because he’s hot to touch. Temperature of 38.7. There’s no cough, no runny nose just an ache in his legs. He went for a test because he didn’t want the doctor to automatically assume he had COVID when he went so he went. Originally I thought it was exhaustion. For the last 5 months he’s been working two night jobs with 3-4 hours sleep. He’s just stopped one and I thought it was his body’s way of saying ‘give me a rest’. He’s up and walking around the house just moaning that his head hurts but he takes a paracetamol and it’s fine.

He’s going to the drs for the UTI once we’ve got the all clear from the test. Ok, fair enough, I’ll keep her off. I thought it would be ok as I had no symptoms and surely if he had it I’d have caught seeing as since as I had DD I seem to catch anything. I’ll call school in the morning.

Test was done at 3:30 - thanks for your help everyone

If it's a temperature you do all need to self isolate until he gets a negative test result, even if it's very likely to be something else.

Useruseruserusee · 31/08/2020 18:19

Hopefully you will get the results soon OP and hopefully it’s not Covid.

One of my friends husband had Covid severely enough to need hospital treatment. She had no symptoms and tested negative, even though they had been sharing a bed during the incubation period. Transmission can be really strange, so it’s good to be cautious.

Hibbetyhob · 31/08/2020 18:44

Yes he has a temperature so you all need to self isolate until his test results are back.

HasaDigaEebowai · 31/08/2020 18:59

better to keep her off for a day until you get a clear result than to have her off for a couple of week and be "that parent" at school

Florabella · 31/08/2020 19:00

I'm confused. I thought you all had to self isolate if one of you had tested positive, and that if one person just showed symptoms then if was only that one person that had to self isolate until they had the test results back?

GreyishDays · 31/08/2020 19:01

No you all have to isolate while waiting for a test result.

ruby29 · 31/08/2020 19:07

If he’s got UTI symptoms and a fever of 38.7, I would speak to 111/ Out of hours this evening rather than waiting for tomorrow.

If it is a UTI he needs to start antibiotics asap.

ktp100 · 31/08/2020 19:08

The school won't want your kids if Dad is awaiting a Covid test result.

Do the right thing and inform them of what's happening.

FippertyGibbett · 31/08/2020 19:13

Yes, waiting is the right thing.

www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/self-isolation-and-treatment/when-to-self-isolate-and-what-to-do/

You must self isolate if you live with someone who has symptoms (including a high temperature). No exceptions due to you thinking it is probably something else.

Forget going to school, none of you should be leaving the house at all, even to buy food, until you have the negative result.

Pinkyaandthebrain · 31/08/2020 19:17

You might get the results early am. We had a test 5pm and got a text 6am next morning with the results. Lots of others had the same timescales.

OverTheRainbow88 · 31/08/2020 19:19

Temperature of 38.7. = isolate

We got a text through at 2am so hopefully you’ll get one through ASAP too. Hope all is well

Morfin · 31/08/2020 19:21

No she can not go to school until you get the results. Hot to touch is a symptom regardless of what you 'think'.

Aragog · 31/08/2020 19:24

He has a Covid symptom which requires testing - a temperature.

Here are the rules of isolation which are applicable to you and your household:

Self-isolate immediately if:
you have any symptoms of coronavirus (a high temperature*, a new, continuous cough or a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste)
you live with someone who has symptoms* or has tested positive

You must all self isolate until he receives notification of a negative test.

Your DC must not go to school until the negative test if received.
