AIBU about creepy doll?

My sisters and I have unfortunately been clearing my nans house ready for sale. We found a very old doll that looks a little creepy, it's a young girl doll in hand knitted clothes and probably was my nan's. Nobody wanted her and I've bought her home. Both my children and husband says she's going to come alive and kill us all. I think she will be okay in the attic.
Have I bought a demon doll home?
She needs a name, I was thinking something of the same vintage so maybe mabel?

Please don't seal her up in a plastic bag. She will suffocate

theconstantinoplegardener · 30/08/2020 21:03

Aw! I think she's sweet! I'd call her Lucy. But if she seems creepy to you, how about Coraline? As in the book.

yakj67 · 30/08/2020 21:05

I love creepy dolls! Put her on display. :)

Cooltalkin · 30/08/2020 21:06

Villanelle of course

madcatladyforever · 30/08/2020 21:07

Kill it with fire.

ClementineWoolysocks · 30/08/2020 21:10

I think Roberta is a lovely name for her, her brother Robert will be round to see her shortly Wink

WitchQueenofDarkness · 30/08/2020 21:13

i thing she's great. I'd have her on display

Weetabixandcrumpets · 30/08/2020 21:14

I would have a lot of fun with creepy doll.

Move her around the house...try cupboards, chairs, under bedclothes.
Find a recording of a child singing a nursery rhyme, slow it right down and make sure it's playing when DH is alone in a room.
Ask if anyone heard a child giggling or footsteps....

MWAHAHAHAHAHA

Sanjii · 30/08/2020 21:16

whateve you do, dont go onto netflix to watch Anabelle Grin

This is my DD's beloved Baby Born doll. She's 16 (the doll). Do you think she's creepy? She's definitely grubby, although she gets washed and her eyes have faded from their original blue...

Eek. "Horrid baby doll" appears sporadically on the Brave Babes threads in relationships. Coukd this be her?

remainin · 30/08/2020 21:23

Her name is Charlotte, btw.

CaffiSaliMali · 30/08/2020 21:23

There's a house in my parents village with lots of dolls in the windows which DH and I call 'The Murder Doll House'.

If it helps, your doll is nowhere near as creepy as the Murder Doll House dolls.

Rebelwithallthecause · 30/08/2020 21:24

I think she looks lovely

WhyIsItSoHardToPickAUsername · 30/08/2020 21:27

Christ I'm going to see that thing in my sleep tonight

remainin · 30/08/2020 21:27

I think your doll is very sweet, OP. The scariest, creepiest dolls are the ones with teeth!

Dodie66 · 30/08/2020 21:30

She might be worth something. Why don’t you try and find out more about her

SchadenfreudePersonified · 30/08/2020 21:30

@FuzzyPuffling

Damienette.
I thought Demonella.
PlanDeRaccordement · 30/08/2020 21:33

Donate her to a museum. Like the V&A.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 30/08/2020 21:36

@Howcanwehelp

images.app.goo.gl/9EdfvBwuuq841PFa9 A little like this but bigger and with hand knitted clothes. Her hair and face is painted and I think she had a bonnet at some point. I think now she's the daughter I never had.
That doll looks too innocent to be anything but sinister . . .

. . . definitely demon-possessed. Are those sigils on her little frock? I think they are!

She used to be called Mabel btw (I picked this up through the Power of The Ether), but she never liked it. She preferred Lilith.

That looks like a Shirley Temple doll. You see them quite often at auctions. Not mega bucks but still collectable. Get the doll out and look out for tags, usually on her dress or on the rear of her head. If you take her shoes off, there might be a tag underneath one of her feet.

I think this thread is a bit overly dramatic and Howcanwehelp has been watching too many doll horror films e.g. Chucky.

Or bury her at midnight with a stake through her porcelain heart.
oakleaffy · 30/08/2020 21:43

@Howcanwehelp
Is she a porcelain headed doll with paperweight eyes?
Those can be extremely eerie- and sometimes quite valuable.

We do really need to see a pic, if only of the eyes!
I have a rocking horse with huge glass eyes that some people find scary- or it might be the wooden teeth and faded red tongue..
I do love old toys though..Shame to keep her hidden away.

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 30/08/2020 21:47

Have you ever seen the ring, OP?

That was the freakiest kid in cinema history. And it's probably taken 'Samara' off the top 100 names list for about the next century.

There was a TV mini series back in the 80s that's coming back to mind now, about a haunted house on an island with a room stuffed full of the creepiest fekin dolls you ever saw. I can still hear the opening credits now, with one of them pictured drowning under water. The house is torched at the end, and all the dolls are shown with their faces melting in the flames like was candles.

Murder[ed] dolls 101! Stuff of nightmares 😱
