Does anyone else have a semi permanent headache

Colycola · 29/08/2020 13:59

I have had blood tests, they are clear. I’ve had urine tests clear.

I just have an almost permanent pain in my head every day. I take pills and it goes. But next day wake up same thing.

The doctor I can’t get hold of, I’ve left messages with the surgery. Not today but in the week. I’m worried I’m taking too many pills and that is giving me a headache but don’t know what else to do.

How much water do you drink?

toomanyspiderplants · 29/08/2020 14:01

Also taking too many painkillers can of themselves cause headaches

Siepie · 29/08/2020 14:02

I had this as a teenager, but also felt dizzy a lot of the time. It was caused by low blood pressure.

Colycola · 29/08/2020 14:03

I try and drink about six or seven glasses a day, I’ve upped my intake but hasn’t really made a difference.

Sorry to hear you're suffering. I agree with PP how much water are you drinking, it could be dehydration. Being an optimist I'd also ask if you eat a lot of sugar/carbs in the afternoon/evening? You might be waking up with a sugar crash headache...

bookmum08 · 29/08/2020 14:08

I used to. Turns out I have high blood pressure.

Lazysundayafternoons · 29/08/2020 14:09

Yes, I have the same and dont know what to do about it either. At one point when it was particularly bad (and i was pregnant) I was sent to hospital and had tests and scans and nothing came out of it.
I take tablets almost every day, even when pregnant my doctor advised me to take 8 paracetamol per day to help ease the pain

vanillandhoney · 29/08/2020 14:15

How much caffeine do you drink and are you reliant on it at all? I used to be addicted to the stuff and if I didn't have my regular coffee I felt absolutely miserable and sore until I did.

FinallyHere · 29/08/2020 14:16

When was your last eye test?

At one point, I had packets of ibuprofen scattered everywhere. An eye test established that my eyes were very astigmatic: I was having to focus hard to see.

Now, it only happens if my eyes are tired.

Ohwhatbliss · 29/08/2020 14:17

Have you had your eyes tested?

Yawnyprawn · 29/08/2020 14:19

I had frequent headaches around my eyes, turns out I’ve had sinusitis for ages- steroid spray sorted it out

DorisDances · 29/08/2020 14:20

Like a pp I would say check your eyesight. Cutting out gluten has massively reduced my headaches

Colycola · 29/08/2020 14:24

Had my eyes tested just before lockdown and nothing had changed I’m quite short sighted but take my glasses off to read.

Only one coffee a day maybe? I’ll push the doctor again next week. I’m wondering if it’s something to do with my teeth as a lot of it is around my jaw.

I’d third getting an eye exam. Could be your work station set up or dehydration, getting a new pillow can help.

My DH was having daily mild headaches, I only found out after emptying the bin and finding lots of empty ibuprofen/paracetamol packets. Turned out he’d been having them every day fir months.
I insisted that he went cold turkey on the tablets and within a week they’d gone. It was just medicine over-use.

SnackBitch2020 · 29/08/2020 14:25

Could it be tension? Having a few sessions with an osteopath might help.

ticktackted · 29/08/2020 14:27

I was going to suggest teeth grinding. Worth seeing a dentist as they can usually tell. It's very common! They can either fit you an overnight brace, or you can buy a cheap mouldable sports brace & try it to see if it helps! Even if that was the original cause, you might have a medication overuse headache on top so be aware of that.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 29/08/2020 14:31

Yes! Me!
Been getting worse since March.
I saw the GP last week. They’re not typical for migraines but she’s given me some tablets to try in case they help. I’ve also had blood tests done and am waiting for the results.
It’s really dragging me down now so I hope we can figure out what’s causing them.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 29/08/2020 14:32

I’ve had my eyes tested in case it was that but no change in my prescription and no oddities were found.

1busybee · 29/08/2020 14:42

See a physio. Loads of headaches stem from neck or arm problems. Worth checking especially if your work requires you to sit for long periods or you have young kids you have to carry around.

IamNotDarling · 29/08/2020 14:46

Anaemia was the cause of my persistent headaches.

Toomanyradishes · 29/08/2020 14:53

I get a lot of headaches but they are varied but somedo come from tension in the jaw. Some of the things i have found that help are
Meditation where i specifically focus on relaxing tension in the jaw
An odd one but if i can feel i am really holding my jaw tense during the day i will put my tou ge between my back teeth, feels a bit odd but stops the inadvertent death clench of the jaw, to break the habit
Get a really good neck and shoulder massage, from someone like a sports masseuse, a lot of the tension for me travels up from a dodgy shoulder
Try a few days without painkillers, rebound headaches are a bitch.
See a dentist to see if it is tmj and if there is anything they can fit you with for overnight so you dont wake up with the morning headache
Check if you need new pillows, poor sleeping posture always means i wake up with a headache

Also check that reading with your glasses off is sufficiently corrected. I am short sighted so technically could read with my glasses off and used to, but I was holding my book at a distance that was less than optimal, and actually wearing the correct prescription even for reading did improve things

FinnyStory · 29/08/2020 14:57

I wake up with a headache every day. I think it's because I get very hot at night and become dehydrated.

Merryoldgoat · 29/08/2020 15:00

@FinnyStory

I wake up with a headache every day. I think it's because I get very hot at night and become dehydrated.
Waking with a daily headache is a classic sign of high blood pressure so I’d get it checked.
FinnyStory · 29/08/2020 15:03

Interesting, my blood pressure has always been unusually low!
