to think you can wear white to a wedding

...if you are a man.

I have just discovered DP thinks that men have to wear a coloured shirt to a wedding, because guests are not allowed to wear white. He's convinced and with a normal coloured (grey/blue) suit it is a huge faux pas to wear a white shirt.

AIBU to think that men can wear white shirts and it's only white dresses that are a no-no?

Aw bless. What colour do you prefer him in OP? Now is the time to declare that men can only wear [insert colour] to weddings if you think he looks particularly good in say, blue or green or whatever

If he’s worried he’ll be mistaken for the bride, you have bigger issues.

Wearing a top hat, cravat and buttonhole to a wedding should probably be avoided by men.

Wearing a top hat, cravat and buttonhole to a wedding should probably be avoided by men.
Why? When my parents married, both of my grandfathers wore top hats once outside. The groom (my father) wore uniform, as did other servicemen.

Obviously fashion has moved on since then and the surviving grandfather didn't wear a top hat a decade later but if you are at the sort of wedding which is formal enough for morning dress then why not?

Does anyone else remember the thread where there were going to be ten "groomsmen" all in white suits?

I was thinking it was the outfit most likely to lead to being mixed up with the groom as generally most male guests wouldn't be in full morning dress. But maybe I just don't get invited to the right sort of wedding...
