I have just discovered DP thinks that men have to wear a coloured shirt to a wedding, because guests are not allowed to wear white. He's convinced and with a normal coloured (grey/blue) suit it is a huge faux pas to wear a white shirt.

AIBU to think that men can wear white shirts and it's only white dresses that are a no-no?

I would suggest your husband avoids a white lacy dress for the occasion however.

It will depend on the type of wedding, but a coloured shirt would be more informal, wouldn't it?

Pale coloured shirts usually look better, so I think that's why more men go for them. Unless the wedding is very formal and they have one suit/shirt combo for weddings/funerals/court.

I'd think he was trying to emulate the 80's with a white suit but I wouldn't notice a white shirt!

He can wear a white shirt without breaching any etiquette. I would go for coloured though as I think it is nicer.

Its sweet that has even thought about it! My wedding was black tie so 100% of men in white shirts! And three women wore white/ivory - two were black and one a size 6 so no confusion caused over who was the bride
