I was griped by the James Bulger murder 25 years ago

OP posts:
FOKKYFC · 27/08/2020 22:49

@Burnthurst187 Me too - but in my heart I hope he got away.

Notgoingonholiday · 27/08/2020 22:49

OublietteBravo I'm sure Huntley said something about being friends with the girls. I was like WTF, that's weird.

MooominMamma · 27/08/2020 22:54

The Delphi murders, 2 teenage girls out for a walk and never came home 3 and a half years ago. They have video footage, photos and audio that one of the girls took on her phone and they still don't know who did it.
There's a fascinating podcast about it called 'Down the Hill'.

StrumpersPlunkett · 27/08/2020 22:56

Jamie Bulger - have read loads about the abuse Jon Venables suffered as a child. It is a real tragedy from every angle.
Louise Woodward (the nanny who did or didn't shake a baby to death in the US) her reaction when she was found guilty still is crystal clear in my mind.
Lindy Chamberlain - poor woman - convicted of murdering her baby sentenced to life imprisonment, after 3 years baby clothing found, 32 years later inquest finally reveals baby was indeed killed by a dingo.

glasgow357 · 27/08/2020 22:57

The podcast "what happened to Annie"

NoemiaElara · 27/08/2020 23:07

The Jonestown Massacre and The West Memphis Three/West of Memphis/Paradise Lost documentaries are fascinating!

Tillygetsit · 27/08/2020 23:11

Im obsessed with anything to do with Ted,Bundy. He facinates me and the story of how he escaped and how he defended himself in court is just unbelievable. He was a truly evil man and had charm, intellect and self preservation instincts well beyond normal levels.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 27/08/2020 23:12

You know when a post on here says "Don't Google ......."

Well it was "Don't Google the ToyBox Killer"

So I did .

Holy Shit he was depraved Shock

fanniboz · 27/08/2020 23:14

The Watts family murders. I know all murder is senseless really but this case is just so tragic

tobee · 27/08/2020 23:16

Podcasts I'd recommend:-

Paradise
Your Own Backyard
The Teacher's Pet
Serial Season 1
The Soryteller: Murder Most Foul
Body of Proof - Audible only
West Cork - Audible only
The Doorstep Murder
Monster: The Zodiac Killer
16 Shots
74 Seconds
Mared & Karen: WVU Murders
Man in the Window
Bear Brook
Big Savage

That I can think of right now Grin

PS I am on a Facebook group True Crime Podcasts that gives me lots of recs plus reddit sometimes.

tobee · 27/08/2020 23:18

Some of the above podcasts are not necessarily crimes but missing persons right now

FOKKYFC · 27/08/2020 23:19

I'm not interested in a prurient way - I wouldn't read any of those godawful true crime books or magazines. But I hate the idea of things being unsolved/unresolved. So I'd like to know who killed the Black Dahlia; what happened to Ken McElroy in Skidmore, Missouri; where Jimmy Hoffa is buried; whether Lord Lucan died that night or much later, in South or Central America; who the Tylenol killer was; whether William Herbert Wallace killed his wife; who committed the Keddie murders; what happened to Gunther Stoll and what 'YOGTZE' meant; who killed Hilda Murell and what the hell happened to the Yuba County Five. Drives me mad. I think it's fascinating, though.

tobee · 27/08/2020 23:21

@FOKKYFC reminds me the podcast Root of Evil about the Black Dahlia case. It's pretty shocking

FOKKYFC · 27/08/2020 23:22

I'll have to listen to that. I know a lot of people think the Black Dahlia was killed by a woman. Guess we'll never know.

united4ever · 27/08/2020 23:25

This interview where the guy murderer has a breakdown during news interview....

AliTheMinx · 27/08/2020 23:25

I haven't RTFT (yet!), but I watched the BBC programme a few months ago about the Disappearance of Margaret Fleming, and it was so disturbing.

I also remember the Ian Huntley murder of the two young girls, which was horrifying, and the kidnapping of Shannon Matthews.

itshappened · 27/08/2020 23:28

For me it was Meredith Kercher and trying to figure out what role Amanda fox player in her death.

Thisbastardcomputer · 27/08/2020 23:28

Lesley Whittle

QuacksInTheDark · 27/08/2020 23:30

Mary Bell
Diane Downs

JacobReesMogadishu · 27/08/2020 23:31

Also alistair Wilson who was executed on his doorstep in Scotland. No known motive as far as I’m aware. Always puzzled by that.

ShopTattsyrup · 27/08/2020 23:50

Herbert Rowse Armstrong - the Hay Poisener. I believe he holds the distinction of being the first (or only?) solicitor in the UK to be found guilty of murder. Murdered his wife, attempted to kill his business rival. But 100 or so years later, there are still some questions about if he was guilty or not, and I believe his eldest daughter continued to plead his innocence until her death comparatively recently.

TheWickerWoman · 27/08/2020 23:53

The Rettendon murders

JudyGemstone · 27/08/2020 23:53

Spoiler alert zero role. Her killer was convicted years ago.

Definitely Fred and Rose West. My parents lived on Cromwell St in Gloucester for a while, and I know the nephew of one of their victims.

I can't bear to think about James Bulger or the Moors murders, although I have toyed with the idea of buying Ian Brady's book on serial killers.

Yes indeed Herbert "excuse fingers" Armstrong

Also, of the "classic" era, The Croydon Poisonings and Julia Wallace case.

A lot of this era are more like fiction. Or is it the other way around? 🤔

SinisterBumFacedCat · 28/08/2020 00:07

RedHanded do a decent podcast. I resisted listening to the Moors Murderers but they don’t hold back and refer to Ian Brady as a self obsessed hipster. Sinisterhood are also good, their contempt for Ted Bundy drips venom.

I found Suzy Lamplughs disappearance really scary and unsettling. Her poor family. Also Claudia Lawrence.
