@FOKKYFC

I'm not sure you can say 'It turned out they (the Taylor sisters) did it after all. The conviction was overturned.
Did they ever find out who did do it?
Elwynne · 29/08/2020 18:35

I recently did a podcast training course for work and part of it involved listening to 'Phoebe's Fall' an Australian production about a very weird story, where Phoebe ends up falling down a garbage chute and dying. Strange thing is, her partner's last girlfriend also died in suspicious circumstances... coincidence? It would appear not.

FOKKYFC · 29/08/2020 18:39

No. And I don't expect the police were tirelessly pursuing other avenues, either. I'm certainly very very satisfied I know who did it, although in what combination I'm not sure. I'm just saying when convictions are quashed, whether the Taylor sisters or Siôn Jenkins, they are considered not to have 'turned out to have done it'.

The80sweregreat · 29/08/2020 18:40

I know it was in 1966 and different times but the fact that the Beaumont children in Adelaide were allowed to go to the beach on their own aged 9 7 and 4 was strange (I looked up the case online) but I suppose they knew the area and people had a different attitude then and the mum must have thought it was safe etc.
It's sad that it's still unresolved.

I find myself very intrigued by true crime stories. The one that sticks in my mind is the murder of the two French students in New Cross in 2008. They just happened to leave the window open as it was a hot day & were tortured & murdered in a horrific way. Very disturbing.

Flymetothetoon · 29/08/2020 18:43

I am old enough to have been around when the Yorkshire Ripper was about. Given that I was living and going about my business in Yorkshire at the time it was very scary!

Zaphodsotherhead · 29/08/2020 18:45

My XH was pulled in and questioned on the Yorkshire Ripper murders.

He was a Uni student doing his work experience year at British Steel and has a gap between his front teeth, as the Ripper was known to have.

Just put this together with my son's house being searched in the CL case and concluded that my family are on the periphery of a suspicious number of crimes!

Faith1976 · 29/08/2020 18:48

Jack the Ripper. Have seen countless things about it over the years, including most haunted A’s episodes. Have also read loads of books about it too. From Hell the film was really good. I reacon it was a guy that went to America and did a similar spate of murders over there.

rayoflightboy · 29/08/2020 18:50

Dyatalov pass, agree this one doesn’t add up either. My theory is that there were military tests going on nearby. There was high radiation detected on their bodies and suspicious photos of light/orbs on their camera. Possibly an explosion that terrified them and caused them to run until the cold got them or they were injured by the testing.

They died of Hypothermia

tobee · 29/08/2020 18:56

@LampLighterInn

Forgot to add: Damien Nettles - the boy who disappeared. I watched the BBC3 investigation with the Irish journalists and read the book written by Damien's mother. The investigation into his disappearance was criminal in its ineptitude. So very, very sad.

Oh yes that was a fascinating and sad story!

Shrunkenhead · 29/08/2020 19:04

Also the parents who set the house on fire with their children in it. I can't recall their names offhand but just thinking "how could a parent do that?" They were quite odd and think he had a caravan on the drive that he lived in with his OW. It was messed up on all sorts of levels.

I was looking for a case I’d heard of ages ago where a 6 year old went to school alone and was abducted and murdered on the way there. I can’t remember the names but a quick google threw up a case of an 8 year killing a 1 year old he’d been left to babysit whilst their respective mums went clubbing 😱

JacobReesMogadishu · 29/08/2020 19:23

Talking of house fires reminded me of the Sodder children disappearance. The house caught fire but bodies of some of the kids were never found. The parents think they survived.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sodder_children_disappearance

Maybe the parents were just desperate to believe and the bodies were just totally burnt but would the fire have been that hot?

Elderflower14 · 29/08/2020 19:36

@Butterer @shrunkenhead The "mother" and I use that word in the loosest of terms is called Maeraid...

Ishihtzuknot · 29/08/2020 19:38

they died of hyperthermia

I know but I’m talking about the strange behaviour of ripping their tent, running into the woods either naked or in each other’s clothes in a state of panic before the hyperthermia kicked in. Something scared them so much to the point of hiding up in trees and abandoning camp.

Elderflower14 · 29/08/2020 19:39

Luke Durbin disappeared near me... Just vanished... Was seen on CCTV and then pooof gone..... A recent documentary queried if he was in London..
His Mum Nicky has never given up looking.
Also do we think Richie from the Manics killed himself or not?

The80sweregreat · 29/08/2020 19:43

Richie is another mystery unsolved.
His parents had to finally administer his affairs a while back as they have never found him.
I felt so sorry for them being interviewed about it all on the tele.

The80sweregreat · 29/08/2020 19:56

I've watched two documentaries about Jack the Ripper and each one threw up a different name : one was a barber and one was a butcher. The butcher one seemed more probable as the blood on his clothes wouldn't have been noticed that much and he had to get up early each day to go to work. Can't remember any of their names though.
I've yet to do the Ripper walk around London from Aldgate , but I will one day.

Zaphodsotherhead · 29/08/2020 19:58

Paradoxical undressing and trying to find shelter account for a lot of that. And the ripped tent may not have been ripped at all - read up on the latest findings, which show that investigators didn't turn up until a lot of damage had been done to the camp site and the bodies.
EveryPlanetHasAYorkshire · 29/08/2020 20:05

I know the Springfield Three have been mentioned a couple of times already but the Bartt Streeter who is the brother and son of two of the victims was arrested for attempting to kidnap someone last year. Coincidence? Maybe...but it did make me go 'hmm' when I found out.

EveryPlanetHasAYorkshire · 29/08/2020 20:06

Bartt Streeter, not the Bartt Streeter Hmm.

EveryPlanetHasAYorkshire · 29/08/2020 20:15

Bartt Streeter's 'alibi' for the night his mother, sister and sister's friend went missing was that he was sleeping. I'm not saying he is guilty but if he did show up to their house that night then either his mother or sister would have opened the door to him even if they were estranged at the time imo.

I've heard people say that whoever took the Springfield Three was clever as they obviously haven't been caught but I don't think that's true. I think whoever did this got lucky as the victims family and friends didn't realise the house was a crime scene and by the time the time their disapperances were reported to the police the evidence had already been cleaned up and destroyed.

Then again the police surely would have looked into him especially after he attempted to kidnap someone himself so maybe he is innocent .

EveryPlanetHasAYorkshire · 29/08/2020 20:16

Sorry about all the typos Blush
